Celmira Amade

Millennial Mozambican Entrepreneur Launches a Vegan Beauty Wonder Product in the UK To Revolutionise Skincare for Melanin-Rich Skin 26 SEPTEMBER 2016 / www.panacheoccasions.com

W

hen Celmira Amade came to study International Business at Royal Holloway University of London in 2010, she was not quite ready for the impact of the English climate. As a result, her skin suffered from blemishes, dryness and uneven tone almost overnight. After spending time and energy searching across mainstream UK beauty stores and still not finding anything natural and designed specifically for melaninrich skin, she eventually settled for make-up as a temporary solution.

It was not until she was offered a “skin bleaching cream in a local independent beauty shop that Celmira realised she really had to do something. Make-up was no longer the solution and skin bleaching was definitely not an acceptable alternative. After a year of hesitation, Celmira took the entrepreneurial leap to influence the concept of beauty products for melanin rich skin tones, by using the ancient Mozambican beauty recipes of her grandmother to launch TSAKA. TSAKA (with a silent T, pronounced SAKA,) means happiness in the Ronga dialect

of Mozambique and this journey has certainly led this young businesswoman to discover the true meaning of happiness.

The TSAKA facemask is the first product in the skincare line and is set to take the melanin rich skincare world by storm. This highly effective wonder product is formulated with rare plant extracts from the Olacaceae family that are only found in Mozambique, Zimbabwe and Madagascar – and it is the first beauty line in the UK to use this ingredient extensively. The mask has high anti-inflammatory and smoothing properties that minimise postinflammatory hyper pigmentation, which is a serious issue in melanin-rich skin. It also deep cleans, detoxifies and smoothens the skin without clogging your pores. But the real wonder of the TSAKA facial lies on its preservative free formula, boasting a oneyear period after opening shelf life.

This is the first time that the beauty and science behind Mozambique's extraordinary flora will be used in a major beauty line. As a vegan skincare company launching its first product for melanin-rich skin, TSAKA pays tribute to time tested traditional African beauty recipes – pushing the boundaries of possibilities in natural beauty. Today, Celmira splits her time in England completing her studies in the University of Cambridge and managing TSAKA’s production and brand development. She regularly travels to Mozambique to visit her suppliers in isolated islands and in the remote countryside. This hands-on commitment allows this dynamic young businesswoman to ensure that only the purest ingredients are used in the TSAKA collection. TSAKA begins its journey with a commitment to leverage 2% of its profits to achieve beautiful things in the communities where the ingredients are sourced. Utilising beauty as a platform to sprinkle happiness and create thriving communities, by providing farmers with the necessary harvesting equipment, and their children with personalized academic support and mentorship to also succeed in secondary school and beyond. MOTHER TO DANIEL DE-GALE WED’S LONG TERM PARTNER ORIN LEWIS IN AN INTIMAT

O

n Thursday, September 15- co-founders of UK-based blood cancer charity ACLT (African Caribbean Leukaemia Trust) Orin Lewis OBE and Beverley De-Gale OBE tied the knot at the Mangos Boutique Beach Resort, Coopers Pen Falmouth, Trelawny,

28 SEPTEMBER 2016 / www.panacheoccasions.com

Jamaica. Trelawny was chosen as the ideal location for the wedding as it is a parish in northwest Jamaica where Beverley’s father is from. Released photographs from the pair’s nuptials

show the couple celebrating with their friends and family at the intimate event. Images include pictures of the newlyweds with Orin’s son and Beverley’s daughter Dominique, Beverley captured watching a surprise video which featured messages from friends back home as well as UK celebrities including Colin Salmon (who starred in three James Bond films and is also an ACLT Patron) and football legend John Barnes, and lastly Beverley and Orin walking along the Caribbean beach as the sun sets. Beverley and Orin first featured in the UK and international media when they launched a campaign in 1996 to find an unrelated stem cell donor for their 8-year old son Daniel. Daniel required a lifesaving stem cell transplant to beat his battle against leukaemia. He was initially diagnosed in Aprill 1993, aged 6-years-old. Daniel touched the hearts of a nation as he overcame incredible odds of 1 in 250,000 to become the first black individual in the UK to receive a life-saving stem cell transplant from an unrelated donor in 1999.

TE CEREMONY IN THE CARIBBEAN

Daniel beat his fight against leukaemia and lived a happy life alongside his family and friends for several years, however on 8th October 2008, Daniel sadly passed away due to multiple organ failure; he was 21 years old. It is the belief of Beverley and Orin; Daniel waited too long for a successful donor to be found. It is, for this reason, they continue to campaign to raise awareness for the need for more individuals from the ethnic community to join the UK stem cell register, in addition to the blood and organ donor registers.

When Beverley and Orin announced their engagement on the 20th anniversary since the charity was founded earlier this year, many TV personalities took to Twitter to congratulate the couple, including; actor Adrian Lester (BBC Hustle), Charlene White (ITV News) and Chizzy Akudolu (BBC Holby City) to name a few. Winner for August:

R

obert Emanuel, born in Hackney East London, is no doubt one the best reggae artist to emerge out of the UK from the early eighties. Robert learned most of his craft from the stables of the legendary Sugar Minott Youthman Promotion record label, and Blackroots record label and a plethora of great singers and musicians such as: Johnny Osbourne, Johnny Clark, Alton Ellis the godfather of rocksteady, Willie Williams, Naggo Norris from the Heptones, Junior Delgado ,Tony Tuff, Tristan Palma, Little John, Junior Reid, Errol Dunkley, Barrington Levy, Frankie Paul, Sammy Dread, Lui Lepki, Don Carlos & Gold, Philip Frazier and the late great Jackie Mittoo. Surrounded by these great musicians has shaped Robert Emanuel into a special and diverse kind of performer. His string of hits in the 80’s with tracks such has “Jah is my light” made it to number one in the Birmingham charts, and also made top ten in London’s Black Echo reggae charts. “Don’t Get Weary and Illiteracy” went to number two in the reggae charts.

He was also presented with an award for Best Newcomer In 1981. In the height of the 80’s / 90’s, Robert performed live with a few artists such as; Frankie Paul, Sugar Minott, Sammy Dread and Lui Lepki at the renowned Dingwalls Night Club in Camden Town and also the Coronet in Elephant and Castle.

performing.

However, due to personal problems and the absence of Sugar Minott, there were big gaps in his new releases and therefore, the exposure became minimal. There were also trust issues with some record producers which hampered him from creating new material. However, he remained persistent and never gave up recording and

To date, Robert has linked up with a great talent, singer song writer and composer known as Stevie P (A.K.A Steve Prince). Their collaboration has produced Roberts first ever album “Ruff and Smooth”, alongside two great singles “Reggae Shakedown party” and “So much Pressure” which is available www.panacheoccasions.com /

on iTunes, Amazon and all leading download sites on Stevie P’s independent label “Stevie P’s production”. He also has a single that he recorded for Stingray Records entitled, “Is it true” a cover to Sugar Minott’s Studio One version. All of these new tracks are been played by well-known d j’s in the reggae circuit such as; Guvnor General, Skitla B, Moody Ranks, Long Pocket, D.C. Ninjah, Jah Wonder, LLoydie Banks, Santic Romantic, Bushman from Harlesden and many great DJ’s, too many to mention. It appears that Robert’s popularity today is the same as it was in the 80’s and I have no

doubt that Robert has so much more to give and offer to the lovers of Reggae music all over the world. His work gets better and better all the time and whether the songs he writes are love songs or roots songs, he delivers with feeling and meaning and good quality tracks. He has gathered so much experience and has matured to enable him to produce the best quality in is song writing recording and performance. Robert is no doubt a veteran in the music business. Watch out for him as he never fails to deliver good quality smooth vocals on well professional rhythm track.

anache e-Magazine would like to wish the African & Caribbean countries featured in this issue a very Happy Independence Day this SEPTEMBER. This is a day to examine who we are and how we got here. Let us celebrate & enjoy the freedom to live independently cheerfully, helpfully, hopefully, peacefully and to remember our national heroes who gave us freedom. Sending you warm greetings
