Dear Readers, this month’s edition of Panache E-Magazine features one of our fantastic contributors, Julian Hall, the Ultrapreneur. He has a wealth of advice and information to share with you on how to give you start up business the best chance of success. The issue also includes all the great features that you have grown to expect from Panache E-Magazine. We would also like to thank everyone who voted for us to win the EBR Award for PR & Marketing on Friday 4th July 2014. We would also like to thank all our contributors and supporters who have contributed to our success. We are especially proud to have won in the category of PR & Marketing as
when we started Panache Occasions ltd we found advertising challenging in terms of affordability. However, after examining our skills and abilities, we decided that if we could not afford to pay for advertising then we would advertise ourselves, thus Panache E-Magazine was born. This is now the second award we have won this year and we feel this award validates that we have been successful in our approach. We want to offer small businesses, in fact, all businesses the opportunity to advertise at affordable prices. Effective advertising affordable!

THINGS ARE CHANGING here’s an evolution happening. If you look at almost every element of our lives from work to business, recreation, entertainment, health and nutrition, sports, publishing, I mean the list goes on – nothing is the same as it was.
chnology has helped us do more with less and in less time which is great. I mean we can wake up the morning, connect to our friends with a status update, find out what’s happening in the world fore it hits the mainstream in 140 characters. And we can learn the answer to almost anything by mply asking the question on Google.
T!
th all of this, we are probably at our lowest point in history across the board. We live shorter lives, e more stressed out, do jobs we hate, are more disconnected from our families, have more failing sinesses and are the most unhealthy we’ve ever been!
what’s the problem? We’ve become external in the way we handle our growth and our challenges.
e’re constantly looking for the answers to our problems and looking for solutions outside of ourselves. we read the autobiographies of successful entrepreneurs and world leaders, hoping to find the cret somewhere in the pages, maybe somewhere in between the lines. And yes we get inspired but at’s not enough to drive us toward action. Actually doing something, actually doing enough to move from where we are to where we want to be or rather where we should be. Cover Page Feature You see, the formula for your success doesn’t come from the blueprint of those who’ve been successful before you. No, it must come from you.
ENTER ENTREPRENEURSHIP When it comes to how people choose to realise their dreams in 2014, entrepreneurship is often the answer. There are so many examples of entrepreneurs who are not just successful in business but who have had a positive impact on not just their families but communities, countries and some even the world. The term entrepreneurship is now no longer the reserve of traditional businessmen in grey suits. We have everyone from geeks to rappers making the headlines globally with apps and headphones. These individuals have made entrepreneurship accessible to a whole new world of people who see it as a viable option – not just a pipe dream. The problem But still 80% of entrepreneurs fail, time and time again. If entrepreneurship was a process in a company, it would be a failing process. If entrepreneurship was a medicine used to help people get better but only cured 20% of those who took it, it would be taken off the shelves. If entrepreneurship were an engine part that failed 80% of the time, cars would be recalled. You get the point. Entrepreneurship hasn’t advanced with everything else and that’s because many of us see entrepreneurship as a lottery ticket. 10 10

Julian Hall - The Ultrapreneur
The leap between the average Joe and the superstar entrepreneur is so far that we think there must be some magic or lucky charm attached to the wrists of those who’ve made it. The fact is, entrepreneurship is flawed and has been for a long time. The digital age has flooded us with so much information that we now don’t know what to do with it. The answer isn’t in the information but how we use that information. When you’re about to build a house, having the blueprint isn’t enough; you need the tools to actually do something. The blueprint of entrepreneurship is the blogs, the books and stories of those who have trail blazed their way to success. But what are the tools? There are none! I took some time to consider what the tools of entrepreneurship are and what came out of that research was my second book.
Cover Page Feature Having travelled the world, spoken in 10 countries on the topic of entrepreneurship, I realised that as a concept it was being relied upon globally! By Prime Ministers and Presidents, single mothers and university students. But how could they use a process or concept which failed 80% of the time I thought?! So I took some time to consider what the difference was between those millionaire entrepreneurs in my network and those who couldn’t find second gear. And here it is. Consciously or unconsciously those who were able to sustain success, I repeat sustain success (as opposed to reaching success forsaking everything around you to simply implode at the end) did so by taking a balanced approach to what was in front of them.
Julian Hall - The Ultrapreneur
eventually not be bothered enough to do a good job and the cycle continues. I mean your ‘work’ is what you’ll spend most of your life doing so why take the option of doing something that will either become soul destroying or something that causes you to hate Monday’s so much and love Fridays so much that you can’t wait to get drunk to make up for the week of pain? What does balance look like? These top 20% of successful entrepreneurs would consider what appeared to be 4 key elements of their lives:
So I presented 100 ideas, or sayings that were to be motivational or thought provoking in nature to help entrepreneurs get into the top 20% of entrepreneurs out there – become Ultrapreneurs! It was clear that these ‘successes’ managed not just their business but it was something they loved to do, it was their passion and it was something they were really good at, scratch that, it was something they were excellent at! Just because you love to do something it doesn’t mean you’re good at it, good enough for people to pay you for it. But, and it’s a big but, if you don’t love it then you’ll

Having these areas balanced is in my estimation the ONLY way that YOU can become the best version of YOU there is. And this is KEY! Let’s go back to the externalisation of success and the failing of looking outside of you for the answers. YOU Visit: www.panacheoccasions.com

It’s like being an athlete and you have a coach. The coach is essential in providing a blueprint and even the tools. They keep you motivated and on point, but the work has to be done by you not them.
ULTRAPRENEUR SAYINGS The sayings in the book had such an incredible response that I decided to produce 365 sayings of my own in 2013 in the form of: Website: UltrapreneurSayings.com Twitter: @ultrasayings Instagram: @ultrasayings Facebook: /ultrapreneursayings
So to go to the extra mile, first take the 12 12

extra step. Now the reason why this is really important is because we have almost been trained to look at the end and obviously there is a value in determining where you want to go, how you want to get there and the big vision for what happens right at the end. I completely get it but in my experience what I’ve realized has worked for me and what I’m suggesting may work for other people is to do what I call slam dunking the next step, because your ability to get from A to Z isn’t based on you jumping all the other letters of the alphabet or all of the other steps in that process or all of the other hurdles to get to that goal. It’s your ability to take the next step and deliver it in such a way that you are then capable of taking the step following that, because if the next step is too difficult for you to do, if you cannot even put one foot in front of the next because of procrastination, because of your fear of success, because whatever it might be. If you can’t initiate or get pass that first hurdle then there is absolutely, in my mind, no point looking right at the end because your focus should be on what’s happening next. Your focus should be on what’s happening presently and this whole idea about being in the present and the future not existing and all the rest of it, kind of comes in to the discussion because if you act in a very present way and you deal with what is quite present then the future is a foregone conclusion right? I have been quite frustrated and I’ve done it myself over the years, probably still do it by listening to entrepreneurs talking about very high and lofty goals and dreams of being in
Cover Page Feature glass towers and having 100 employees. That’s all fine and well but if you can’t even get out the blocks, if you can’t ‘slam dunk’ as I say the first set of task then there is no end goal, there is no conclusion. So that’s where that saying comes from and it’s really about being present and making sure that you can slam dunk the next step cause if you slam dunk the next step then success is a fore gone conclusion.
So the saying, “there are very few problems showing up won’t solve’, really came about because I physically made sure, very early on in the businesses that I ran, that I was present and I don’t mean present in a philosophical way, I mean actually present, I would turn up to every networking event that happened, I made sure I was there every meeting, I made sure that people wanted to catch up for coffee or a drink and just you know, relationship build. I’m doing that, I literally showed up in so many different places it was ridiculous and when I ran out of places to show up physically I then showed up virtually online, so I showed up on youtube, I showed up on blogs, I showed up across business on social networks.
Julian Hall - The Ultrapreneur
I showed up and what I learned is that it solves problems in a number of different ways. The more you show up, the more people you can meet and engage with. The more relationships you can build and it builds a kind of master mind effect. You build up a network of really great contacts, which means that you have much more “resources” to access when you have problems and challenges. That’s the first thing. The second thing; Is that you’re meeting up with a lot of people, learning their stories, their challenges. You will learn how they overcome or overcame those problems, it means that now add to your data base of problems solving solutions, so when you come across a problem you can think “uh, I met this accountant or this architect or this dot com guy or this fashion designer or whoever and they had a similar problem and they used software, or they looked at things in this way or they use this process or this model to approach this problem, so showing up in that regard in an actual or literal sense, enabled me in a way that I didn’t understand at the time but I made sure that I was open, I was open to networking, I was open to meeting people and in retrospect, it’s been great, it’s built such a wide knowledge base both eternally and within my network that is something I can now leverage, not just for me but for peers of mine. That’s great in itself, but ‘showing up’ means that when you are problem solving, if you show up in the more philosophical sense either you are fully engaged or wrapped around the issue then you have more chance of being able to tap in to some of the answers Visit: www.panacheoccasions.com

Cover Page Feature that you probably already have consciously or subconsciously. I’m stressing that it is important to engage, it’s important, when you are faced with a problem not to bury your had in the sand or to immediately think this is going to go wrong but to approach the problem in a very objective sense and look at it totally. Look at every aspect of it, show up and be there and treat it like it’s a problem which less consequence than expected. It is in our nature to exaggerate how bad this thing could be and often times it isn’t so. However worrying unnecessarily increases our stress levels which reduces our ability to effectively probe ourselves but by showing up in that more philosophical sense it means that you can be a lot more objective and therefore be a lot better problem solver.
So the saying “you cannot live it or breathe it if you’re not it” comes from this old adage that says, let’s say that you are going into sales, they’ll tell you you’ve got to live and breathe sales which makes sense but if you’re not that sales person, if that’s not what makes you tick then as hard as you try, you will not be able to live it and breathe it generally and then you’ll not be able to be that kind of person. What I think happens 14 14

is that individuals go into a particular job or they go into a particular sector of business and they pretend. They know in order to be good at their job, to be good at the business they’re in that they’ve got to be genuine and sometimes they even want to be genuine, so they start to pretend to be this person. For example, when we set up our first business about 10 years ago it was heavily relied on sales. You’d have to get sales to the front door and as much as I wanted to be the sales guy, as much as I wanted to get out there and sell, sell, sell, that just wasn’t me, it just wasn’t what I was cut out to be. However, my business partner, he was excellent at sales. He could talk the birds out of the trees and all the rest of it, but that wasn’t me. What I realized that I was good at was building relationships, marketing and looking after other areas of the business. I realized that if I did what I was good at well, it would indirectly transfer into sales. I, quite logically, started to focus on doing what I was good at. I realized that being the sales guy just wasn’t working for me, what was actually happening was that I was getting the reverse effect to that which I was aiming for. I was having a negative effect on our sales because I was doing something that I wasn’t good at and did not enjoy. I couldn’t live it and I couldn’t breathe it because that’s not the kind of person I was so what I’m suggesting is, people that are trying to go into whatever sector of business, there are going to be people who genuinely live it and breath it and that’s gonna be your competition so you need to decide whether or not you’re gonna go up against someone in the business who is genuinely the real deal, who is the genuine article, do you really want that to
Cover Page Feature be your competition because you’ll never be able to outdo them, you’ll never be able to get more market share, you’re never gonna be able to beat that person, to beat that company because they really do it and you don’t! You’re just pretending. What I’m getting to is, you’ve got to find what helps you to live and breathe and turn that into a business. This is the kind of thing that causes people to really believe in themselves and what it is that they really want to do and the rest of it. Lots of psychological barriers appear at this point but I think this is where the magic is and if we can overcome some of those eternal challenges and actually admit and be honest with ourselves about what it is that makes us tick, makes us breathe, we can become very effective very successful at whatever it is because we’ve all heard a millions times that money is a byproduct of success, it’s a byproduct of doing a really good job. You don’t go out to make money, you go out to add value to deliver something that has a high value to your customer or client and then they part with their order and money or that particular product or service.
Julian Hall - The Ultrapreneur
world of employment. I think we should be teaching them (and this is something that applies for grown-ups too) to look at doing what is closely aligned to what makes you tick and to what makes you breathe. Ultrapreneur Facts Website: UltrapreneurFacts.com Twitter: @ultra_facts Instagram: @ultra_facts Facebook: /ultrapreneurfacts Entrepreneurs are motivated and inspired by quotes, we all know that, but I also realised that they’re motivated by facts! It’s these facts which take us out of the motivation into action because we have something tangible to compare our situations to.
So why put yourself in a situation where you’ve got to work harder than you would have to if you were doing what made you tick, what made you live and breathe? That is the suggestion because otherwise you’re going to spend a very long time pretending to be something you’re not and it’s gonna become a struggle which you cannot sustain it. So this idea of being able to sustain success is more important than reaching the heights of success and burning out. I don’t think that’s the way forward and I’m not sure we should be teaching the next generation of young people who want to get into business or the Visit: www.panacheoccasions.com

Why aren’t you delegating? Stephen Comiskey famously said that: “you can delegate authority, but not responsibility”. It is this mantra that often stops entrepreneurs from feeling confident in delegating tasks to others. Carol Walker, the president of Prepared to Lead says that: “most people will tell you they are too busy to delegate - that it’s more efficient for them to just do it themselves.” However, as an entrepreneur sometimes your most important task is to teach people how to 18 18

think and ask the right questions, so that you can trust others to pick up some of the slack. Accepting that you can’t, or maybe shouldn’t, do everything yourself is a critical first step to delegating.
Why should I delegate? An entrepreneur chooses their path to find new ways of doing things, be ground-breaking and be able to step back and observe a creation they are proud of. This process requires plenty of time and moreover a very different type of focus than that which sustains the everyday running of the business.
Cover Page Feature Richard Branson is passionate about delegation, believing that the only way to stay focused on growth is to delegate everything else! In fact, many entrepreneurs agree with this basic principle but find that the delegation of responsibility is easier said than done. Some of the most common excuses for avoiding delegation are: • Taking the time to train somebody else isn’t worth the effort; • You’re too busy to explain tasks or projects; • You’re the ‘best’ or ‘only’ person who can get the job done correctly; • No one else is available or responsible enough; • If you delegate responsibility, you lose control. The result is often that projects get backed up and you become too busy to fulfill other important responsibilities.
What should I delegate?
Julian Hall - The Ultrapreneur
Some tasks are perfect for delegation, whilst others are best kept for yourself. This is a basic guide but of course there are always exceptions. For example, to you social media marketing may be a boring task, however others would find that incredibly interesting! By delegating tasks such as blogging, administration duties, telesales, event management, presentation design and many more, you are allowing yourself to use your skills to the best of your ability, whilst letting somebody else look after everything else that comes with it and usually keeps you busy. Delegating benefits both you and your business in the long run. Not only does it lessen stress and increase performance, but also it makes sense to spread the load, making the most of the time you have and focusing your talents on tasks that specifically need your attention. You’re an expert in your field, that comes with the entrepreneurial territory, and effective delegation is essential in finding that work-life balance and success that every entrepreneur dreams of.

Esther Austin interviews
Les Brown
I
found out two weeks prior to The Pursuit of Wealth & Happyness Event at the Excel in London on July 5th that Les Brown, Chris Gardner and Duncan Bannatyne would be the main guest speaks of the day.
If any of you know me, you know that I am driven and someone who takes action. So as soon as I heard these gentlemen would be in town I made contact with the organisers to get in on the action. Yet it was days of waiting, sometimes impatiently, another trait I have been working on for most of this year and then last minute dot com, I was told I could interview not just one but two of the speakers. Game, Set and match. All day Monday I waited patiently – well impatiently actually. Then the interview was moved to Tuesday, then last minute it was moved to Wednesday and with nerves all a jangled mixed with excitement and a
“Yes, I’ve bagged two fantastic interviews” I legged it to the Crowne Plaza first to interview Les and then to the rather POISH Claridges to interview Chris Gardner. Les walked into the interview room, confident and with his signature big cheeky “I’m Les Brown” grin plastered on his face. I sat with bated breath – hoping all the questions I had in my mind would not suddenly disappear into a hazy fog as the big man sat down next to me and gave me one of those “I’m here” Les Brown looks. As I took off my “OMG filters” and relaxed the interview got off into full throttle almost immediately where I began by thanking him for taking the time out to be interviewed and thanking him for his contribution of empowering nations. My first question to Les was to ask him to tell me in a nutshell who he was. At that moment Les’s face lit up and in his best Barry White drawl proudly stated “I’m Mrs Mamie Browns baby boy, she was my mother.” It was obvious that this man had based his whole life around the love he had for his mother, and for the gratitude and high esteem in which he held her, for all the hard work she had done to give himself

and adoptive siblings the life they had. A pride which had been etched in the mind of a little boy who vowed at the age of 10 that as soon as he become a man he would look after his mother and she would not have to work ever again, and that vow is one Les Brown committed to and delivered on. Then still on a roll Les went onto state that he was a person who aspired to inspire until he expired, and with that he went off into one of his infamous cackles of laughter where his belly rolled and his eyes lit up. I then jovially stated I hope that this would not be any time soon – once again Les’s wit kicked in by saying “flesh and blood may reveal that to you, but by my heavenly father’s will I’m going to be here a long time. He said that this was his 70th year on the planet and he planned to be here beyond the next 30 years so he can hit 100. Over the years what is it that has driven you and inspired you to want to reach out and touch lives at the level and depth that you do? Number 1 has been my mother. I’ve always said when I speak that God took me out of my biological mother’s womb and placed me in the heart of my adoptive mother and all that I am, and all that I ever hope to be I owe to my mother. She was a hard worker. She worked for wealthy families in Miami Beach in the US. She cleaned homes and kept children. We wore the hand me down clothes of the children she kept. She cooked for those families and we ate the left over food that the families would give us so I always wanted to be able to take care of her. She adopted me along with 6 other children and I admired her faith, her drive her determination and so I made up my mind at ten that I was going to buy her a home when I became a man. I ended up buying her four different homes before she passed. I took care of her. Then the second thing was being 22

labelled Educable, Mentally, Retarded when I was in the fifth grade and I was put back into the fourth grade and failing again when I was in the eighth grade. Then I met a high school teacher who I eulogised about two months ago, who told me at the time that someone’s opinion of you does not have to become your reality. He really was my earliest mentor and taught me the techniques and strategies and the value of effective communication skills. He always said “develop your mind that you don’t get in life what you want, but you get in life what you are” which was rule number 1. Number 2 he said practice the principle of OQP, Only Quality People. Number 3 he said develop your communication skills because once you open your mouth, you tell the world who you are and so when I look at my mother and when I look at Mr Washington who was the high school teacher, and Mike Williams who has been my mentor for 44 years, who saw the Les Brown that you now see. I did not know this Les Brown existed so one of the things I teach people is this, have someone in your life who can see what you can’t see. The people around you influence you tremendously and this is something most people don’t realise. There was a study done and the study indicated that you earn within 2,000-3,000 dollars of your closet friends. One of the goals and objectives of success seminars is to help people to understand there are three main things that you must do in order to make it in this economy. Transform your mind-set and expand your vision of what is possible. Number 2 - continuously increase your skill-set to stay ahead of technology and outsourcing and Number 3 to upgrade your relationships. People can hold you down or can lift you up. Most people make the mistake of not realising the role that relationships play in your ability to succeed. If you are around

the wrong people they will drain you. I believe there are emotional vampires who will drain you mentally, emotionally, spiritually and financially. There are some people who are always there, they need you but when you need them they cannot be found. The principles that you have lived by over the years that have got you to this place, can you share some of these? Well the first one is having the power of having the vision of yourself beyond your circumstances and your mental conditioning. The imagination is very important. Einstein said the imagination is a preview of what is to come. I am a 19 year cancer conqueror just two months ago. The doctors gave me an MRI and they said we apologise, we just could not believe what we saw. Two months prior to that cancer had metastasized in 7 areas of my body and my PSA was 2,400 down to 1.3 and now I am cancer free, debt free and drama free. With that Les cackled a laugh of triumph stating “To God be the glory”. He then went on to state “One of the things when dealing with any life threatening illness is your mindset. You have to have mental resilience. So the lion in me said “So you are the motivator? Well I’m going to whoop this on you to see how you motivate this. How are you going to handle this but I did. It was a challenge. I believe life is a fight for territory and once you stop fighting for what you want, what you don’t want will automatically take over. The other thing my research and my work in this area showed was that more people die from a doctor’s prognosis than from the disease itself. One of the things I am adamant about is that the doctor should never tell someone they are terminally ill. What they should say is my knowledge and ability to help you has terminated now you
need to explore other options. I beat cancer so good that cancer rates in my neighbourhood dropped by 90 per cent. The power of belief in your life and having relationships that can inspire you that can bring the best out in you, that will challenge you, that will hold you accountable, I think those are the things that are very important along with some of the ideas and things that I have discovered through trial and error and life that will be beneficial to people. Aside from your mother and mentor, who are some of the other people around you that inspire you? Mr Washington, My mother, Mike Williams who is my strategist to this very day. He wrote the book “The Road to your Best Stuff” which is on Amazon. Mike Williams has been really major in my life because of the fact that he was able to help me to begin to believe what he saw. Sometimes you have to believe in somebody’s belief in you until your belief kicks in and he is a person on a high level of thinking. He never read a motivational book but his thinking there is a saying when the student is ready the teacher will appear. So I was ready but it took him 14 years to convince me that I had the ability to speak for AT&T, Proctor and Gamble, MacDonalds Corporation, General Electric. It took him years to convince me that I had the ability to earn more than 90 percent of the American public on one hour than the average American earns in one year. I just could not believe practical, being logical, being realistic and the life that I am now living for me was available for me, that is why my favourite book says “lean not unto thy own understanding.” There are some things that we know in our hearts that we cant get our Visit: www.panacheoccasions.com

minds around and that is what separates me from the other speakers because non of them, I don’t care who you have ever interviewed have ever come through this way through my experience. Booker T Washington said “judge a man by what he has accomplished but by what he had to overcome for his accomplishment.” So when I look at my journey from where I have come from and the many things in the whole area of success principles does not apply to me, does not apply to you because there are things that we don’t have going for us that people who came up with those concepts had going for them and the struggle that we have, they don’t have that struggle so they never had to find out “how do you deal with this” what do you do when you are in an environment that is hostile to immigrants, how do you overcome the odds and the structures that are designed to keep you out, to keep you from participating. How do you gain access. But through that experience I learned some things that Elsie Robison was right when he said “Things may happen around you and things may happen to you but the only things that really count are the things that happen in you.” There is a dimension to who we are. There is a power, there is a presence that will allow us to eclipse, to be able to rise in spite of the things that have tried to hold us down. Can you feel the brother? I can feel you brother, this sister is feeling you. I can feel the power of your words. You are not just a man who talks. You are a man that talks from the heart and from the soul. This interview has come at an apt time because last night my two sons found out that a friend of theirs committed suicide 24

and the question everyone, including this guy’s friends were asking was WHY? WHY? What could I have done to change that? To reach out to our friend? They have been going through that process and so I want to take back this interview to them to listen to it because in those WHYS? There is some powerful stuff coming up for all of them and I can see them looking at life from a totally different perspective. Well first of all look at it like this. One of the major goals I have before leaving the planet and I believe God has given me the grace to do this is to train 1,000 voices of hope, outside of politics, outside of religion. Religion which prepares you to live after you die and Politics which says “Vote for me and I will give you a piece of the pie”. But I want to train ordinary people how to do basically three things. One to give people hope because when there is hope in the future it gives you power in the present. The United States of America is considered the land of opportunity, yet there is something wrong that more people are committing suicide in the US than killed in car accidents. So people do need hope that this new global economy where there is no safety net they need to know they have the power within themselves to overcome their circumstances and to create a better life for themselves. The second thing is that people need to have methods. Hope without methods is insane. You have to give them the process and methods of what they need to do in order to begin to gather who they are now in order to give birth to who they must become.
Living
Life
The third thing is they need support. My goal is to teach these speakers how to create communities of supportive, collaborative, achievement driven relationships. When you change people’s mind-sets, when you teach them the skills of how to use what they have going for them and you give them support and allow them to be around collaborative, achievement driven relationship that will allow them to soar and to begin to manifest their greatness. None of us make it by ourselves. I’m here because somebody believed in me when I didn’t believe in myself. The interview ended with a lot of hugging and laughter. What a truly inspirational man with a truly powerful message. I can only say that Les’s talk on Saturday bought the house down. Powerful, on-point, interspersed with his signature sense of humour. I was sold on many many levels and empowered to step up and step out of my comfort zone and his message was simply this “You’ve got to be hungry” and you can bet your bottom dollar I left hungrier for my own success and more energised than ever. If Les Brown can do it so can you! I certainly am stepping up my game and why? Because it is my birth-right to step into my greatness because I AM HUNGRY. Thank you Les. he entrepreneur is someone who is able to take risks and manage these risks for a viable outcome. They think on their feet and are able to constantly invent ways of making life work for them. In my opinion, the ‘entrepreneurial’ skill is latent in each of us and it is up to us if we choose to manifest this potential. The person who decides to use their entrepreneurial skill, is someone who sees life as an exciting adventure and jumps into the ocean of opportunities to experience the wonders of chance. Entrepreneurs come in so many different guises. They can be introverted or extroverted, but the one thing they have in common, is that they are willing to trust that somehow, no matter what, it all works out in the end, even if it is not how they planned it to be, when they first started the process and if all fails, they are brave enough use the experience of the past to create a new beginning. It is interesting when observing people who are using their entrepreneurial skills. What you see is that, In the eyes of the entrepreneur, everything is a potential asset which could be turned into something viable and it is this focus and the willingness to pursue their dream, that determines their success. As a child, I spent most of my days with my dolls in a circle on the floor, bartering with

them on my make believe stock market floor. I am sure that if this was happening now, the adults would have booked me into a few sessions with a child Psychotherapist, as in my make belief world, it did not seem at all odd to me, that I spent all that time talking to myself. At the ripe old age of seven, my level of managerial tenacity stretched, to me electing myself to become the ‘chairman’ of the garden committee ( even though I was the youngest child), when as children, we were given a small piece of our garden to grow our own vegetables. Luckily for me, the adults around us, did not think it prudent to interfere with my need to be the boss. They just thought it was funny. I wonder if any of them might have guessed that I was just preparing for my entrepreneurial years and would eventually become the CEO of a very successful company some years later, having remortgaged my flat and everything I owned to do this. I took my chance. Entrepreneurs are survivors who strive to make life work for them, rather than expecting it to be the other way round. He or she is the person creating the next moment, as opposed to the person who is waiting for the next moment to come. They take risks and think about the consequences later. That’s not to say that they do not plan their route of

The Mentality of the Entrepreneur action, but this is usually based on chance, it has to be. But because of the nature of the ‘species’ they never give up. They always seem to jump right into the deep end for the maximum result and if all fails, are ready to jump right back into shape for the next opportunity. The entrepreneur has the ability to make things look easy in the face of any potential adversity and on the surface, it seems that he thrives on the potential of failure, but when you look more closely, what you see is contrary to that. What transpires, is that the true entrepreneur thrives on a sense of security within themselves, that says, no matter what, they will enjoy whatever enterprise they embark on, even if at times it will be stressful, because it is a great way to experience the adventures of life and it is from this platform that the entrepreneur is able to step out of a comfort zone, to become innovative and inspiring, enabling them to make their own contribution to the changes that are required for our world to evolve. To the entrepreneur, life is an exciting adventure. His or her motto would most likely be: - How else can you know the excitement of life if you are not living an exciting life? fter the 1981 Brixton riots, the Government appointed Lord Scarman to inquiry into the reason or reasons for what was called the worst outbreak of disorder (at the time) in the UK that century. The report found that the riots in Brixton were caused by serious social and economic problems affecting Britain's inner cities. The report criticised police and the government, but it said there was no excuse for the violence and praised officers for their conduct during the disorder. That made no sense to us at the time! You criticise the government for the serious social and economic issues which we were facing and you criticise the police for their use of SUS laws against black youth, but then say there was no excuse for violence. I want to know if there is ever an excuse for the violence of war. The investigation also found that the rioting was caused by “a spontaneous crowd reaction to police action” - rightly or wrongly believed to be harassment of black people - and had not been planned. They could have asked me that! More than 300 people were injured, 83 premises and 23 vehicles were damaged during the disturbances. (I had first-hand experience of at least one vehicle being burnt to a shell).
30

I did not see the riot on the main high street where, apparently, most of the damage took place. I saw most of what took place there on the news. Of the 83 people who were injured, I personally, only knew two. They were ‘injured’ by been beaten by the cops in the back of the meat wagon. One of them was beaten so badly about the head and has never truly recovered from his encounter with Babylon. The report also advised the government to end racial disadvantage and tackle the disproportionately high level of unemployment among young black men - as high as 50% in Brixton. The findings of the Scarman report led to the introduction of many measures to improve trust and understanding between the police and ethnic minority communities. But racial tensions - particularly with the police -continued to spark public disorder in the UK. Lord Scarman called for a new emphasis on community policing and said more people from ethnic minorities should be recruited to the force. My best friend at the time had just joined the police force, not because of the recruitment drive but because his brother was already in the police on an accelerated

He faced his share of prejudice and racism within the force, however, he is a much grounded and mentally strong individual, who not only had to deal with racism within the force but also had to endure the bile of his black peers who considered him a sell out for working with the enemy. This is the reason that the initiative was not successful then and is not working now.
“Where there is injustice and oppression, there will eventually be rebellion. Clayton Brown
In 1985 there were further riots in Brixton after an officer accidentally shot and wounded a black woman during a police raid, and again 10 years later when a young black man died in custody. Sir William Macpherson's inquiry into the handling of the Stephen Lawrence murder, published in 2000, said the Metropolitan Police still suffered from "institutional racism". Recently, on 4th August 2011 Mark Duggan, a 29 year old black man was shot and killed by police in Tottenham, north London. The circumstances of Duggan's killing resulted in public protests in Tottenham which, fuelled by poverty and racial tension, led to conflict with police and escalated into riots across London and other English cities.

rices for overseas property are usually quoted in a foreign currency, be it US dollars, or the local currency of the island in which the property you are buying is located. When buying or building property in the Caribbean, the last thing you want is to find that you have insufficient funds to complete your purchase or house building project due to fluctuating exchange rates. Foreign exchange rates can change rapidly, which could lead to an unexpected shortfall in funds by the time you are ready to complete your purchase or make that last stage payment on your house building project. Although many of the Caribbean islands have their own local currency, we recommend that you pay for your Caribbean property in US dollars. The reason for this is that if your transaction should abort for whatever reason, you are likely to lose less money against the US dollar than if you had used Jamaican, Barbadian or Eastern Caribbean dollars. e hope last month’s health tips were helpful, so here are more health tips to help you with your exercise routine. We all want to be fit, lose weight and look good so let’s put these tips into action and look forward to being much healthier. So Go forward and be healthy:
HEALTH:
Circuit training programmes involve a combination of high-intensity cardio and strength training exercises performed with a very short or no time interval between two exercises, making them extremely effective for increasing your endurance level (along with muscle strength, flexibility and coordination), Which includes Using various machines at your local gym that can be done in less than 20 minutes.
34
JULY 2014 / Visit: www.panacheoccasions.com
EXERCISE:
A good circuit training course works the different sections in the body individually, ensuring that no two consecutive exercises work the same muscle group. Exercises you can choose from include star jumps, jogging or running on the spot, squat-thrusts, pushups, crunches, using a treadmill or other cardiovascular exercise machines. When one circuit is complete, simply begin the first exercise again for another circuit. The following circuit training routine should be performed with training the upper body on Monday and Friday and then training lower body on Tuesday and Thursday.
NUTRITION:
Eating 5 or 6 small meals over the course of the day can be very beneficial for strength training, as it keeps your energy levels steady and prevents you from overeating or going hungry. Including protein (such as eggs, lean meat, nuts, fish or pulses) in each mini-meal is key as it not only helps to stabilise your blood sugar levels but also promote muscular growth and helps improve your recovering ability. by Patrick Lewis Your Fitness Guru

KEVIN OWENS on:
M
r Kevin Owens is the kind of artiste that we should all be inviting to come and share the stories & entertainment cultures with our people in the continent of Africa. I have known Kevin Owens for well over 25 years now, I was a guest to most, if not all the shows whenever Luther Vandross performed in London. I can safely say that we have become very close friends over the years. I was first introduced to Kevin Owens, Lisa Fisher and Cindy Mazel back in 1989, when they came to a Rick Brennan & others show at the Hippodrome, London. It was a great experience meeting him and that same year, we were invited as VIP guests to see Luther Vandross perform at Wembley. Since then, whenever they
were in London, we were always invited as VIP’s to join some absolutely great people in the VIP lounges and after parties. Due to the ongoing relationship that I have with Kevin Owens, I have secured this exclusive interview with him as he launches his new book. Kevin Owens has spent well over seven years writing his memoirs about his life on the road with accomplished musical extraordinaire and icon Luther Vandross. Known for his signature falsetto vocal range, Kevin Owens’ musical resume as a background vocalist (on both the stage and in the recording studio) is impressive as he has worked with some of the most celebrated music artists in history aside from Vandross himself: Ramsey Lewis, Nona Hendrix, Kirk Whalum, Freddie Jackson, Noel Pointer, Dave Koz and Ray, Goodman & Brown (who he still sings lead with to date). I was truly blessed with this opportunity to talk with Kevin Owens about being on the road with music icon Luther Vandross, Kevin’s book and his motivation for writing his long awaited memoirs. I look forward to working with the pending new projects, So Amazing the Book and the Theatre Production. All will be revealed in due course. Visit: www.panacheoccasions.com

How long have you been writing songs? Plus did it take you long to put this book together? I have been writing songs for most of my life, though I never really concentrated much on becoming a writer and my focus was more on singing, choreography and playing instruments. In general my goal was to become a performer. I started writing the Book So Amazing shortly after Luther passed. But it took me 7 years to complete. What instruments have you mastered over the years? Actually I haven’t mastered an instrument that you would play, but I have mastered the internal instrument called the vocal cords. How do you feel having worked with the man himself Luther Vandross? I feel very blessed to have had the opportunity to work with such a great person and performer. The journey with Luther seemed to encompass all the dreams that I had dreamed of. And being in his entourage enabled me to learn and grow to the heights of excellence as a performer that I’ve always wanted to demonstrate. You have toured or performed around the world where do you wish to have gone to? I have been privileged to travel to most places in the world but there still are a few places I would like to visit one of those is Egypt. I’ve been to other parts of Africa, but never Egypt. When I was in Italy a few years ago with Ray Goodman and Brown we were on scheduled for the next stop to be Egypt. Regretfully we had to cancel that leg of the tour because of the start of unrest in the country at that time. How many band members did you tend to perform with when touring? 40
JULY 2014 / Visit: www.panacheoccasions.com
Usually when we tour we have six musicians and five singers when we were out with Luther. But his total entourage including techs and other personnel totalled 50 people at times. Can you explain to your many fans what the book ‘So Amazing’ is all about? Yes, one of the reasons for the book was to let the world know about those special things about Luther aside from the music. I wanted to let his fans know the human everyday side of Luther, the type of man he was and how he dealt with everyday situations while touring and building his career. What I hope to accomplish is to let Luther’s fans know how much he really cared about them. How everything he did or dreamt about for his shows were for them. And what it was like for him to hear in the end that it was fabulous. That’s what I want them to know as well as the kind of loving and giving man on a personal level that he was. What is entertainment to you and what would you do if you were not into this business? Entertainment to me is taking a performing arts form, perfecting it and then presenting it to an audience for entertainment pleasure. I take pride in being a performer and I’m very Grateful to do what I love to do every day I wake up. If I were not a performer I would probably be a corporate business man, a teacher or a basketball Player. All three interest me. Did you train as an entertainer and if so what did you start as? I can remember as a child always wanting to sing and dance and it seemed to others that I was pretty good at it from the response I would get from family and friends. I naturally

had a gift for choreography and putting songs together. And I just loved music in general. I just followed my heart to the fullest and I always knew that I would be on stage as a major performer some day. The training came into play in my early teen years going to dance school and vocal training and Carnegie Hall, then going on to Children s Theatre and on to Performing Arts HS. How long did you work with Luther Vandross? I worked with Luther Vandross for 20 years. Take a look at this video where he introduces his back-up singers: -
Tell the people what kind of relationship do you have with the Vandross family and do they support this book and theatre production? My relationship with the Vandross family is excellent. After their review of the transcript they were pleasantly pleased and surprised. Their reaction was ‘Kevin, thank you for showing us what your intentions are.” They also acknowledged that because it was my story on the road with Luther and not Luther’s life story, that I didn’t have to get their approval, but I wouldn’t have done this any other way. In the end they wished me well. When I get to the scholarship phase of events they related that they would be happy to be involved.
How do your parents feel about you being a performer did they always support your choice to sing and dance? Growing up my parents were always so supportive of me. That’s where I received a lot of my encouragement from. My Mom Hattie Owens was a Great Singer in my eyes. She sang Gospel on the Church Choir and Classical / Opera. And it was my Mother that enrolled me into Carnegie Hall Vocal Training Lessons under the Great Dr Chauncey Northern, and my Father Eddie Owens loved to see me play the guitar and drums and always supplied me with the instrument I wanted. Are you still working as the lead singer of Ray Goodman & Brown aka The Moments? Yes I am, and the group is still travelling the world and making waves. And I’m proud to say that we have some great things on the horizon for RGB. We are currently about to drop a new single that we are very excited. And Ray, Goodman and Brown will also be appearing in the Musical ‘So Amazing’ coming out in March 2015 in America.

Ray, Goodman, & Brown - Special Lady
Are you still recording Albums? Yes I am in the Studio recording a new solo CD Billy Brown is currently recording his new gospel CD and Larry Winfree is in the studio working on his tracks for the Group Winfree. And of course we as a group are focused on the new RGB CD following up the single. What is next from Kevin Owens after the Book the production etc.? Although I know I have a lot of work ahead of me with the Book and the Musical production, I’m already making plans as to what to do with the percentage of the proceeds I will be allotting to do the LV Achievement Awards. Simply because Luther gave to us and our families an opportunity of a lifetime that infused us all with so much aspiration and achievement possibilities. Luther loved the children. Anytime one of our children in the entourage or his nieces and nephews did well on a report card or school grades he would reward them with either money or an opportunity to have a job with him. My son, Amir, and my daughter, April, and other children in the entourage had the opportunity to work for Luther because of good grades. That working experience gave my kids a shot in the arm in life they can never forget, and to this day they are still 42
JULY 2014 / Visit: www.panacheoccasions.com
I can’t help but think that those experiences were a major part of their drive to strive for excellence. Luther’s whole attitude was about excellence. Thus an Awards Presentation Gala – The LV Scholarship and Achievement Awards – will be sponsored through my foundation, The KEI Foundation. This event will feature an All-Star line-up of those of us coming together to celebrate Luther. The book will come and go, but the Legacy of giving will continue year after year. I think it’s an Honourable a way to celebrate his life – helping college-bound students fulfil their dreams as professionals in this society.” How deep is the book and the theatre production, do we get to hear about all the things that went on? In the Book I cover most of what went on but I did not want this book to come off as a gossip memoir. I have too much respect for Luther and his family for it to come to that. I found ways to tell it without throwing a person’s personal life under the bus. This book is a labour of love. These are all personal accounts through my eyes. I had the privilege to share Luther’s dressing room quarters with him for the years that I was with him. We had a special camaraderie as brothers. We were the guys in our room and Lisa, Ava, Alfa Paulette and the rest of the ladies were together in theirs, and the band in theirs. We were very comfortable with one another, never a bother to one another, we could be in the same room for hours and not have to say a word and it was so cool. And what was so great was that Luther was so confident with who he was. He had the

production put ‘Luther Vandross and Kevin Owens’ on the dressing room door. Now you and I know MOST artists wouldn’t have that because of egotistical insecurities. But Luther wanted the best around him, and he didn’t mind giving people their props. He knew it would only make his organization that much better. The Musical is an actual live re-enactment of the book. All of the episodes in the book are what I wanted to show because I spoke of most of the trying times and experience for all of us during those years touring with Luther.

DENTONS FORMULATING THE BEST ACQUISITION STRUCTURE FOR YOUR TRANSACTIONS IN AFRICA
I
think as a community, we have to encourage our young adults to look at the continent of Africa for business opportunities that are available and attend events that profile the emerging market and acquisition structures in Africa. The young Diaspora must position themselves so that they are at the forefront of where we are wanted. The Private Equity (PE) sector in Africa continues to grow steadily. In 2013 US$3.2 billion was invested in 98 PE investments and US$3.3 billion was raised through PE funds closed. In addition, in 2013 Africa was rated as the most attractive emerging market by LPs. PE in Africa is now seen as presenting many opportunities including those beyond South Africa's established market. Following on from our successful recent event in Lagos earlier this month, Dentons is pleased to invite you to the third in a series of workshops on acquisition structures in Africa. Listen to partners Michelle Bradfield, Jeremy Cape and Nicholas Plant and Senior Counsel Raj Kulasingam, discuss topics including: -
Ben Unaegbunam, Raj Kulasingam, Stephan Breban & Solomon Mekonnen
Nicholas Plant - Dentons UKMEA LLP takes the stand
Richard Macklin, Raj Kulasingam & Jeremy Cape all of Dentons UKMEA LLP
Availability and desirability of double tax treaties Availability of bilateral investment treaties Existence of exchange controls Local content ownership requirements Speed of incorporation of the corporate structure Current terms in equity documents
This interactive workshop includes a panel session aimed at drawing out the key issues relevant to you based on our experience of structuring transactions in Africa. It will be of particular interest to anyone contemplating an investment in Africa.

OLIVER SAMUELS in his new BLOCKBUSTING PLAY
“DOLLY HOUSE” Written by: OLIVER SAMUELS “WHEN YOU THINK IT DUN, IT ONLY JUST BEGUN”. Witness a peice of Jamaican Theatre History when Oliver Samuels celebrates his 65th birthday with an epic production to top the lot.
The Play “Dolly House” is a wonderful mix of Jamaica’s favourite topics; politics, power, intimacy, race, class, mistrust and betrayal, all co-mingled into one hilarious comedy with the belly cramping humour that only Oliver can produce.
is due to her, “finishing up her 4 story mansion in the hills” and finally; two bad men who “just nuh into the rent paying ting.” Insanity you think? As Oliver said – “Unu jus nuh see nutten yet.”
It is well documented that Embassy Saga, his previous production, is one of the funniest plays in the history of Jamaican theatre and when asked how “Dolly House” measured up? Oliver replied, “Unu jus nuh see nutten yet.”
The promoter of this event Bagga John of BJ Promotions, who has promoted the previous two sell-out Oliver tours had this to say about the up-coming tour, “Patrons lucky enough to secure a ticket for the UK performances should consider themselves indeed “Dolly House” depicts the crazy fortunate to be able to see at first hand, drama, unavoidable tragedies and the real “Bigman” of comedy Oliver constant comedy that occur daily in Samuels, along with a star studded multi-dwelling structures in Jamaica; cast celebrating his 65th birthday in commonly known as Tenement Yards. real Jamaican Theatre style”. Tenants include a middle aged Chinese woman whose hormones seem larger than her mouth; a young dreadlocks man who carries five phones and has about six different names; a Higgler who insists that her constantly overdue rent for her one room and shared bathroom
BJ Promotions have been bringing to the UK public top reggae and theatre stars from the Caribbean for over a decade and are delighted to once again present the fabulous talent that is Oliver.

It’s not just Fashion, it’s a Statement
anache E-Magazine was honoured to meet up with a London fashion designer that has recently attracted world-wide attention. Mary Martin, renowned for her outrageous, bespoke, creative designs created the fantastic outfit that was captured in all the media that highlighted one of this year’s fashion statement at Royal Ascot. Local socialite, entrepreneur and model Eliza Cortez dazzled waiting photographers on the first day of Royal Ascot on June 17, 2014 with her brightly coloured, old-fashioned cabbage rose creation by designer Brande Wilkerson and stunning black & white dress by London’s leading edge fashion brand: Mary Martin London. I was actually there to witness Mary bursting with excitement when she received the phone call announcing that her creation had been captured by mainstream media. When we finally stopped celebrating, I was interested to find out what makes Mary Martin tick. What were you like as a child? Being the oldest of 3 children, I was a naughty child, full of energy that was sometimes hard for my parents to manage. My mother was a seamstress for a very big company of the 70’s. She would take me to work with her during the summer holidays and I remember that she always created her own freehand patterns for the garments that were produced. She was good at her craft and wanted to pass on that
knowledge to me so she used to give me the task of creating the patterns for the knickers. This stuck with me for life and if you give me any piece of paper, I can create a knicker pattern in seconds. When did you first think about creating your own designs? It was an expected progression really. As a young girl in my teens, I realised that I had a natural flair for design and started making my own outfits. I bought my very first sewing machine for £20.00 (which was a lot of money in those days) and invested in some fabrics. Within 10 minutes of sitting down at the machine, I had crafted 4 outfits. So proud of myself, I realised that this is what I wanted to do. I wanted to be a designer. I have never looked back. How did you get from making clothes for yourself to designing for the stars? I moved to London in the early 90’s with the desire to make a name for myself. I was attracted to the freedom of expression in a city where music and fashion was the pinnacle of everyday life. I held my very first fashion show at a venue called …..on the Old Kent Road and invited all my family, friends and people I had met along the way. The show was a success and it spurred me on to continue. Before long, people in the entertainment industry begun to notice my unique style of cuttingedge designs that broke all the conventional Visit: www.panacheoccasions.com

rules of fashion, and would commission me to create their outfits for their shows. It was great, I had the time of my life. So did the accolade go to your head? Well no. My designs have appeared on so many catwalks and stages in the world of entertainment as well as several newspapers, including “The Telegraph” “The Star” and other media. But I am an extremely grounded person who believes that it is important that every garment a woman wears should not only be glamorous, but comfortable as well. The inspiration behind my designs is that “It’s not just Fashion, it’s a Statement” and therefore, my innovative and diverse designs are always inspired by the kind of mood I’m in at that time. Which designers have been your ultimate inspiration? • Mary Quant • Vivienne Westwood • John Galliano Describe your range of designs? My bespoke and limited edition designs are eccentric, sassy and sexy. My dresses are all versatile in the sense that you could wear them how you wanted too. Short, long, inside out and back to front. The fabrics and the designs make my dresses movable and unique. I emphasize on Asymmetric cuts and glam sheer pieces. Each garment is unique and specifically crafted for the purpose of the lucky lady wearing it. I believe that as a designer, you should be able to branch out into ANY avenue of style. What are your future plans for Mary Martin London? Oh My God, there is so much to do it’s unbelievable but I thrive on juggling many
projects at the same time and appear to take it all in my stride. I’m looking forward to creating collections that are to die for and that would make Mary Martin London the new highstreet brand and household name like ASOS. I am also looking forward to developing my own lingerie collection, reminiscing on how it all began. Mary Martin has opened her doors to all stylist, photographers, models and invited guests to wear her designs on photo shoots, red-carpet occasions and video shoots. South Africa is celebrating 20 years of freedom this year. As a recent addition to the ‘BRIC’ nations of economic growth they have a great deal to offer, both economically and culturally. The strategy for the growth of the South African economy is focused upon youth development. The SAFACW Show brand is about youth development and encouraging young designers from South Africa as well as South African designers in the UK to showcase their designs. Students from South Africa have been chosen to showcase their designs. There will be a competition for the best young designer of the show and the prize presented on the evening of the Show. The Show has chosen MALUJU a charity to help young people in South Africa and other southern Africa countries who suffer hardship. It continues the work of the founding members who were artists from South Africa raising money from their performances and exhibitions and making grants to organisations such as the Red Cross and others to support children in need. The SAFACW Show will donate 5% of the net profit to MALUJU.

Costume Institute of the African Diaspora CIAD Tartan: Its Journey Through the African Diaspora Design Competition
T
CIAD Design Competition.
he Costume Institute of the African Diaspora (CIAD) is an education and information resource. We provide information on the history and development of all aspects of dress and body adornment from Africa and the African Diaspora for research and educational purposes. On our website we feature interviews with designers and cultural custodians; articles about developments in the fashion industry and how they affect designers in the African Diaspora, and articles on traditional sustainable textiles. In August 2014 we are holding our first major exhibition entitled “Tartan: It’s Journey through the African Diaspora". The exhibition is an exploration of how this distinctive pattern came to influence the traditional fabrics and cultures in parts of Africa and the Americas ”Tartan: Its Journey” will focus primarily on four regions/ countries: UK (Scotland and England), East Africa (Kenya and Tanzania), South Africa and the Caribbean (Jamaica,

Carriacou/ Tobago, and the French Caribbean), although there will also be important supporting information about India and the USA.
The focus of the exhibition will tell the story of how tartan came to be associated with Scotland, how Scottish tartan came to influence the production of madras fabric in India which then went on to have cultural significance in the Caribbean and social significance in the US. The exhibition will also tell the story of the adoption of tartan in the Shukas worn by the Maasai people in Kenya/ Tanzania and the religious garments of the Zulus in South Africa. Tartan: It’s Journey through the African Diaspora looks at the development of three different types of fabric from the different regions: tartan (wool) from Scotland & South Africa, Shuka’s (acrylic) from Kenya/ Tanzania, Madras (cotton or polycotton) used in the Caribbean. The visual aspects of this history will be represented through the display of national and traditional costumes which use these fabrics and photography of vintage and contemporary fashion wear.
COMPETITION SPECS
One of the reasons London won the bid for the 2012 Olympics was on the strength of this city’s multiculturalism. As part of our exhibition we are running a competition with young people across London between the ages of 14 – 24 exploring this concept.
Flair
Fashion
Due to the cross-cultural emphasis of the exhibition and the diversity of London and the UK, entrants are required to design a garment which represents them in multicultural Britain. We are asking participants to consider what multiculturalism means to them and where they see themselves within this society. We are then asking that they design a garment incorporating their own ideas of multiculturalism and self-identity combining the use of the three emphasised exhibition fabrics (tartan, madras, shukas). The competition is run with the support of the Heritage Lottery Fund and the Victoria and Albert Museum. As part of the competition and to help with the design process, participants are asked to use the images of fabric samples below for use in their designs. o, I am Jenni, a London-based Redundancy Transition Coach and I help people like you to recover, reassess and reinvent themselves after they have been made redundant and are wanting to transition to something completely new. I am passionate about this because like you I was made redundant it was 2008 and it was like a bolt out of the blue, there was no-one to support me and nowhere I could turn, and I felt that if it was happening for me, perhaps I could do something to take away the pain that others go through as they navigate this significant life change.

That is what made me specialise – with an HR background I was often witnessing how others were being treated when they were made redundant in terms of a lack of support, and I wanted to do something that would make redundancy transition easier, through a combination of coaching and workshops. So, back in 2008 I trained with International Training Seminars and became an accredited European NLP Coach. I currently provide Human Resources consultancy support to a Charity that supports people with diverse disabilities.

PANACHE f
Pleasure
Jokes / Fun & games / Competitions / Horoscopes
Horoscope for July 2014 Welcome, Jupiter! This warm-hearted planet is going to begin his journey through Leo on 16th July, to finish it on 11th August 2015! In this superb, generous (and a tad egotistic) sign, Jupiter will touch our hearts and for the better!
During his journey through Cancer between June 2013 and mid-July 2014, Jupiter has crossed swords with Mars, Uranus and Pluto, forcing us to go through some intense emotional upheavals and often experience inevitable breaks with the past! After a period of enforced, rapid change, we are going to go through a phase from mid-July, which will certainly be troubled by great fundamental questions (due to the square aspect between Uranus and Pluto, which will come to an end in March 2015), but this will augur better for great, positive inspiration, creativity and emotional renaissance! This will be at its peak around 24th July, when for once the heavens will be having a ball! However, not all will be magical this month! We can also to expect to experience a few seismic tremors, politically, economically and socially (especially around the 4th, 8th, 22nd, 25th and 28th), which will shake our foundations without fail and rattle our security, but we should then be better equipped to face adversity and undertake much needed reforms.
