lamboyant, colourful, vibrant, creative, inspiring and breath-taking! These are just some of the words I would use to describe Reuben P Joseph. A multi- award winning Choreographer and Director, Reuben has won Best Art Director 2013, 2014 and 2015 at the UK’s BEFFTA (Black Entertainment Film Fashion Television Award) and Best Fashion Choreographer 2014. He has also won the IAA (International Achievers Awards) for Best International Fashion Choreographer 2014 and 2015. He has acted as artistic director for at least 25 shows, including Fashion TV – London Fashion Week, Pride of the Motherland, Pakistan Fashion Week (2013), Egyptian Jewellery Show, Miss Caribbean UK 2014 and Notting Hill Carnival 2015 (phew!). Some of you may have been fortunate to see the fruits of his labour at the many fashion shows he has been involved in, or seen the videos of him putting certain models through their paces and will appreciate what I am writing about. Until I met Reuben, I was ignorant of just want it takes to even put on a fashion show. Up until that moment, like the general public, I thought that there was a runway on which models walked up and down and that was it. I didn’t appreciate the months of planning, the attention to detail and of course…the choreography. Models walking or standing in certain positions and places,
was more than just walking to the rhythm of the music, it required practice and someone with the flair and knowledge of what looks just right for that particular show. Enter Reuben! I first met Reuben in 2013 and I can honestly say that I have never met (and probably never will meet) an individual like that again in my entire life. Initially he seemed a mass of contradictions, long dreadlocks, a tall gangly frame, walking in long graceful strides with a bounce in each step. Nothing however prepares one for his voice – a deep vibrating tone, spoken in a Trinidadian accent. Reuben definitely makes an impact when first being introduced! One has to keep up with him – literally – because he thinks and talks fast. His mind has already created a vision according to the show he is working on and he will let one know – in no uncertain terms – what is required. His attention to detail is second to none, from the arch of the model’s neck to the poise of the wrist; Reuben can look at a room full of models and pick up the slightest mistake. Somehow, he manages to bring out the best from each individual. For him perfection is non-negotiable. Watching him preparing for a show is as entertaining as the show itself! As with all creative people, Reuben is multifaceted. One may think they know him only to find another aspect that they didn’t know. However without each aspect there wouldn’t be the Reuben that we know and love.

Cover Page Feature I remember sitting in a planning meeting for one of his shows and leaving in awe, buzzing with the picture that he had created in only words, let alone when it would actually come to life. For all his awards and the many shows that he has been involved in, I still get the feeling that this great man is underestimated, which is truly a shame. Yet I know he will continue, because I believe Reuben truly cannot do anything else; passion and purpose does that to a person. I wait with baited breath to see the masterpiece that he has created for Miss Caribbean UK 2015 I know it will be spectacular! I asked a few questions to understand the THE PHENOMENON THAT IS REUBEN P JOSEPH.
What was your childhood like?
My childhood was good, I could not ask for a better upbringing. I was adopted by the late Florence Glenn. She was strict and such a lovely hard working woman. She gave me the right foundation in education, caring about people, to give love and sharing with others. Some of my greatest assets in making me of whom I am today. Most important knowing about Jehovah God. I did not know what it was like to have a Father and Mother Love. Both my Parents migrated to America and Canada. She was both Mother and Father to me. I missed her dearly. Her Spirit will always be alive in my heart.

When did you start realising you had a flair for fashion? From High School.
Who are your greatest influences/ Inspiration and why?
So many people has touch my life in so many special ways. The people who has and continues to inspire me are: The late Nelson Mandela a man who was a Prisoner became a President who has help his people to Freedom. No bars can hold a man with a purpose in life. Oprah Winfrey a woman of Substance. From a simple talk show host to World Domination in Media. The Power of the mind and what one can achieve if one believe it can be accomplish. The late Alexander Mc Queen he introduced Theatre in presenting his Fashion collection the work of a Genius. Peter Minshall a master in costumes designs. He brought theatre to the streets for his carnival presentation, one of my greatest teacher in the arts. His work has Inspire me for greatness. Last but not least, another of my greatest influence in my life is Claire Jackson the Director of CJ Events. She is the one who has encouraged , supported and help me to be where I am today. I remembered when I was eager to get my proffession started in the UK. Boy did I get doors closed in my face. Until one day some one recommended me to Claire Jackson. The rest is History.

Cover Page Feature What would you consider your greatest achievement? I have achieved so much in the Fashion Industries here in the UK. Worked with so many Nationalities and Creative People. It has been my dream too do so years ago and I have.
Is there anything you wish you could have changed? Why? Leaving my country earlier in life I would have achieved so much. Then again it was God’s time and I believe it was the right time when I did arrive here in the UK.
What can we expect from Miss Caribbean UK this year?
3,651 Models on a Catwalk - Guinness World Record
My greatest achievement is being part of the Very big Catwalk in Liverpool Merseyside on the 4th July 2015. Having the opportunity to work with 3651 Models as we make the Guinness Book of Record for the most Models on a Catwalk. It was truly a Magnificent and a Electrifying Experience.
A fantastic production with theatrical splendour and magnificent choreography. I take the audience to the Caribbean Rum Shop in “Rum and Coco Cola”, “Rivers of the Caribbean,” in Traditional Wear,”Beauties in Bond” as we celebrate another milestone in James Bond. “Spectre”
Are there any projects that you are currently working on apart that you can tell us about? London Fashion Week February 2016, L’ art de La Mode - “Hollywood Romance” British Fashion Invasion 2016 and Rites to Fashion.

Who will be crowned the Caribbean Queen of the UK on the 5th December 2015?
T
hat’s the big question that will be answered at the Grand Finale of the Miss Caribbean UK Beauty Pageant on Saturday 5th December at the prestigious Shaw Theatre on the Euston Road. The pageant is about much more than physical beauty, it was launched last year to showcase and promote the Caribbean countries under one umbrella. With its logo ‘Positively Promoting the Caribbean’ the event aims to raise awareness of issues relating to the Caribbean people in the UK and the wider Diaspora by inspiring, informing and uniting both those taking part and the UK audience. Organisers Clayton and Jacqui Brown aim to use pageantry to unify, inspire, educate, entertain and celebrate the historical and cultural impact of the Caribbean with the United Kingdom. They state that, “MCUK is more than simply a beauty competition, our winner will be an ambassador for this culturally rich and beautiful part of the world. Last Year’s inaugural event saw Keeleigh Griffith, representing Barbados, come through the different stages of the pageant to be crowned the winner. She has enjoyed a hectic year, not only meeting celebrities and dignitaries at red carpet and networking events, but also flying to Barbados to celebrate “Crop over” and also being interviewed on the National TV station. I think I would be a successful candidate due to my leadership qualities. Since the age of eleven I have always run my own businesses and always strive for the best. I also have my business qualification. I am well very well groomed which is also a plus. People have always looked up to me for my sense of style and my hard working attitude. I’m a good listener being a life coach always there to help people with their problems they are facing in their day to day lives. I am severely burned due to an accident involving a just boiled kettle at 8 months old. A Successful Miss Caribbean UK ambassador will be a strong woman who has the experiences of life to be able to portray and know the true meaning of integrity, purpose, peace, growth, wellbeing, and education, not just in studying terms but from being able to learn from others as well as past mistakes. She will be able to interact sincerely and socialise with citizens of all backgrounds, religions and ethnicities yet always stays true to her culture and never forgets where she came from. International Development and International Politics not only because I am passionate about changing the current system in less developed regions but also because I believe that nobody should be living in poverty. I believe that a successful ambassador should be kind, caring and genuine. They should be willing to go out of their comfort zone and tackle issues that they are not familiar with. This has been an incredible year for me and on the 5th December 2015, I will be handing over my crown to the 2nd Miss Caribbean UK contestant. Although tinged with sadness of giving up my crown, I realise that I have a bright future ahead of me. Last year’s pageant was incredible. I stole the show and have never looked back. I have gained so much confidence, met some incredible dignitaries and celebrities, received great exposure by hitting red carpets and attended some inspiring charity fundraising events. I travelled to Barbados curtsey of the Barbados Tourist Board. I walked the runway at the Annual Afro Hair & Beauty show. I had live interviews on TV stations here and abroad. I headed the Notting Hill carnival parade for mas band MaKING Carnival. Oh my God the list is endless. Clayton and Jacqui Brown have created a fantastic platform that positively promotes the Caribbean countries under one umbrella. I’m proud that I was chosen to be the very first ambassador for this brand and I will continue to be part of the organisation. I would like to wish all the 2015 contestants the best of luck and advise them to always follow their dreams, never, ever, ever, ever give up. Be positive!

MODEL AND STAR OF THE REVIVED ITV SERIES “LOVE ISLAND”
T
he former athlete is putting her years of diet and fitness experience to good use. She's currently writing a lifestyle book and developing an app - containing recipes and all her fitness tips and tricks to staying in shape! The half-Irish model is travelling to Ireland to undertake a variety of media projects including photo shoots for the Irish Daily Mail's YOU supplement and for the Irish Daily Star's Star Chic magazine, along with guest presenting TV3's highest rating show Xpose. She's also being booked for shoots for magazines both in the UK and Ireland - where she'll be discussing her diet and fitness. Rachel will also be appearing on panel shows such as Celebrity Big Brother's Bit on the Side and The Wright Stuff! Model, Heptathlete and media personality Rachel Christie first shot to fame in Britain, as the first black Miss England in 2009. Since then, she's gone on to have a varied and successful career in modelling and sports. Sports is in Rachel's blood, being the niece of legendary
sprinter Linford Christie, encouraged her to become a Heptathlete. She had won several renowned championships and won a bronze medal for the heptathlon. Rachel also comes with a wealth of modelling experience, from being personally mentored by Caprice, to being personally invited by Naomi Campbell to walk in her "Fashion for Haiti Relief" show! Rachel's featured in a series of campaigns for world renowned companies, such as: Adidas, By Caprice Lingerie, Lamborghini Energy Drinks & Skinny Water! She's also been an ambassador for Renault and even had her own documentary feature aired in the USA on the BET network! Rachel sadly lost her father at the age of eight, he was brutally stabbed due to his involvement with a drugs gang. Since that tragedy, Rachel has become dedicated to tirelessly campaign to end knife and all gangrelated crime! After her rocky relationship with former Gladiator and ex-fiancé of Kelly Brook: David McIntosh and having a son with him - Rachel went into semi-retirement from modelling. With her affable and bubbly style Annaliese is a featured presenter for Clothes Show TV and the award winning internet channel Videojug. As a presenter Annaliese has hosted fashion, beauty and entertainment shows and has interviewed the likes of Janet and Jermaine Jackson, Kelly Rowland, Kimberly Wyatt, Peter Andre, JLS and VV Brown and fashion’s elite, Caryn Franklin, Charley Speed and Mary Katrantzou.
In 2004 he won Mastermind, with his specialist subject being FA Cup Finals and in 2012 was ranked 286th in the World Quizzing Championships.
She has also presented on the red carpet and backstage at the MOBO awards, for MOBO TV as well as hosting the Afro Hair and Beauty Expo for 2 years running.
Shaun is also a member of the south eastern circuit of the Criminal Bar Association. Owing to his heritage (he is of Jamaican heritage and was born on the 2nd June 1960) he has been a member of the Jamaican Bar since 1999.
Annaliese’s other passion is music which comes across on her new weekly radio show on West Side radio. Her introduction to radio began with making it to the final 5 of the Kiss Radio presenter search in 2011. This was closely followed by presenting the breakfast show on Bang Radio for almost a year and a half.

Saracen is one tough Gladiator, not only is he the King of Hang Tough, with only one Contender ever reaching his platform, but he has also proved himself to be a force to be reckoned with on Duel and Powerball to name just a few. He is only one of four remaining Gladiators from the original lineup, and went from strength to strength each series. Saracen was also part of the special UK international team that went to compete against South Africa in the Springbok Challenge 2000. Saracen is also a real life super hero, he still works as a full-time fire fighter and manages to also appear as Saracen in his spare time. The fans know there’s only one- Saracen!

C
arol Howard, the policewoman who successfully claimed race and sex discrimination against the Metropolitan Police who subjected her to a ‘vindictive and spiteful’ campaign of discrimination and smears according to the industrial tribunal. She was forced to resign after reaching a final settlement with her former employer. Carol dreamed of being a police officer from the age of seven. Inspired by TV police dramas: Cagney and Lacey, CHiPs, she says. “I used to sit there and think: ‘God, I really want to do that.’” Growing up in Peckham in the 80s and 90s, she was acutely aware of the black community’s distrust of the police. She remembers her uncles complaining about getting stopped and searched but at the age of 14 she arranged to do work experience at her local police station and found herself hooked. At 18, she became pregnant but remained determined to fulfil her dream and joined the Met as a station receptionist at 21, training as an officer three years later. The rest is history. Carol says; “It has not been easy and I am saddened that in 21st Century Britain, what I went through is still allowed to happen. I stood up against my employers the police, I spoke up for myself and challenged race and sex discrimination which I, as a serving police firearms officer was experiencing and as a direct result I was victimised. I hope that by my challenging these practices and winning my case it will help other officers past and present to see that they do not have to

accept inequality. I also hope that my case and its outcome forces the Metropolitan Police organisation to address their Fairness at work complaints policies and pave the way for change in the Police Service, force wide”.

Livingston Gilchrist (LG) began his career in the arts and media through an introduction to fashion modelling. One job led to another and within a short space of time LG had moved from taking part in ‘peripheral shows’ to mainstream events in Central London venues. This led to being booked for even bigger events at London’s Royal Albert Hall and Fashion shows in Cologne/ Germany & Paris/ France. Quickly realising there was more to the industry than just being adorned in designer clothes, LG moved swiftly to choreographing fashion shows and training models for runway collections and fashion shoots. LG’s first business venture was established in the 80’s when he opened ‘Cosmopolitan Academy of Modelling’ – based in North London. This venture provided countless young hopefuls with the structure and guidance required to enter the modelling

Long established as a freelance photographer, Karlton set up Hotshots Multimedia after working as an ICT and Media Studies teacher for over 10 years. “Photography has always been my passion and I believe that there is nothing better than to work at something you love doing”. “I have always been interested in photography ever since my mother bought me a Kodak camera for my 12th birthday and I have been passionately taking photographs ever since”. migrated from my country of birth, Trinidad & Tobago, in 1965 to attend Hull University. From then to now, I have had an extensive engagement with Black communities and British society as a combatant, advocate and beneficiary. This took several forms, from the prodigal son in the Mother Country to an afrohaired student revolutionary; a locksman in community work at the fringes of criminality; a loud community voice labelled “an ungrateful recipient of British hospitality”; a local Magistrate and recipient of several public appointments; an artist combating stereotypes and fostering pride in black- ness and now, a Pensioner; tired and disappointed but drawing solace from making Mas and promoting my beloved country of birth.
The TEAM In the late 60s and early 70s, my university years at Hull, London and Brunel Universities were spent, in part, dabbling with radical student politics and at the same time trying to promote black culture among my peers. London, where my family was settled, became the hub of all my sojourns and so each vacation, I came to my sister’s home in London and got involved in whatever was happening there. The focus of this engagement was the West Indian Students Centre (WISC) in Earl’s Court, a meeting point for Caribbean students in the UK along with the West African Students Centre round the corner; together they formed the major nexus of black student activities in London. The WISC also housed the West Indian Students Union. The Centre itself was funded by all the Caribbean governments and there was a restaurant, bar and main hall where artistic and educational events were programmed. I was Chair of the Centre’s House Committee with responsibility for managing the Centre. The Centre was a unique and valuable resource as it was the only place where you could get a three course meal for 18p, have a shower, study in the library and then pop down to the bar where you could taste the best of Caribbean rums. It was our own building. There was nothing else like it in the UK at that time, not even for the UK black non-student community. In it was also housed the only all-black football team in the country, playing to great success in a local London League. After I left university, I moved down to London to live with my family and I became involved in the battle to widen access to the Students

Centre outwards to the black community. I say ‘battle’ because the WI governments were paying for the Centre specifically for students and as a result it was seen by some as elitist and divorced from the realities of being black in British society. I used my arts background (in Trinidad I was in a drama group and was a ballet dancer) to set up a group called the Black Arts Workshop to show young British-born black people how theatre can be used to articulate their experiences and to speak meaningfully to the young people coming up who were not exposed to black art and black theatre. My mentors at the time were some of the major Caribbean writers like Andrew Salkey, John La Rose and Eddie Braithwaite, who were members of the Caribbean Artists Movement (CAM). CAM met at the West Indian Students Centre. I remember long discussions with Salkey and La Rose over issues with the arts. And we were also affected by the Black Power Movement in the USA, particularly issues around a black aesthetic. I guess we were trying to replicate some of what was going on in America through theatre. And our space in Earls Court was important because it was the only place we felt we owned and controlled. We taught traditional and modern Caribbean dance and what we called ‘revolutionary theatre’. We deliberately embraced art forms that came out of black struggle and so we felt that we were fighting to secure a public space for these performances and to obtain legitimacy for it as great art. We would take our shows to universities and other community centres across the UK. We told positive stories of our people in Africa, the Caribbean and the UK. included many of London’s budding writers and artists – Mark Mathews, Basil Smith, Femi Fatoba, Oscar James – and many others who had made a mark for themselves and stood out as exemplars for us, such as Tommy Eytle, Raymond McLean, Ritchie Riley, and Jacques Egyptien Compton. The ‘we’ also included those among us who went on to achieve great things – Beverley Bryan, June Hines and Neil Kenlock to name a few. Although we made links with other black arts organisations in London, they were critical of us; we were seen as playing with revolution and we accepted that. They said it because we were art-based and not within the grassroots. But in our minds, we were politicising our community through arts. The hardest thing was to maintain a belief in what we were doing. Knowing how some outsiders saw us, it was important to keep a grip and focus on our arts in the community while keeping the radicals among us on our side. It was an uneasy partnership that had to be negotiated very sensitively. We should have created more Centres like it in the community, but that didn’t happen. There was no money for a start, but there wasn’t a united group that could claim membership of the whole community. Nevertheless, the impact of the Centre on the young people was clear. They had the opportunity to develop their interests in the arts. Some developed their art into a living like Neil Kenlock who became a well-known photographer and later businessman. Caribbean governments eventually got disillusioned with funding a ‘hotbed of revolution’ because our programme of events 42 NOVEMBER 2015 / www.panacheoccasions.com
were not exclusively student orientated but more reflective of the political situation in England and our countries of origin. For example, we hosted a meeting for the US athletes who shook the world with their black power salutes at the Olympics to meet us and members confronted Dr Eric Williams, Prime Minister of Trinidad & Tobago, when he tried to address students over the then bus strike in Trinidad. The Centre was then closed and offered to a number of Caribbean countries to use as their diplomatic centre – The Eastern Caribbean and Grenada. The sadness is that when we lost the Centre, we lost the archive papers along with it. We had a library also and we don’t know what happened to it. I have continued to be politically active in a variety of forms, including membership of a radical black organisation – The Black Liberation Front, the Editorship of its paper, Grassroots. But my overriding engagement continues to be in the arts fostering understanding and appreciation. My current project is promoting street art through Mas and Carnival Arts. In September 2011, we took a Carnival Band to Shanghai to play Mas before 250 mil- lion Chinese TV viewers. rancis Agyapong was born and grew up in the beautiful land of gold and chocolate, Ghana. As a young boy growing up in Ghana he completed his academic cycle. Once finished at the age of 18 he enrolled on an exclusive tailoring course, where he learnt to make ladies and menswear. Four years after, inspired by the great Ghanaian designer Kofi Ansah he took a bold step and started his own business, following his passions for making clothes. As a man prone to bold steps, he moved to the UK where he perfectioned the art of bespoke tailoring in the heart of British fashion, London and the renowned Saville Row. His talent and skills became quickly recognised and Dance Sport International (DSI) came calling. He made dresses for the celebrity contestants of Strictly come Dancing. He also had the privilege to create the clothes and visual for the Menswear windows at Harrods. He followed by keeping a close relationship with BBC working on other various programmes such as “Tumble”. He also works for the quintessentially British brand Dege & Skinner. Francis was grateful and honoured to have been asked to work on the Miss Caribbean UK pageant. His passion for such a vast culture,

Black cinema reaches new high after Love & Basketball celebration

The bar for black cinema experiences has been set to a new high, after Amacoast Cinema’s epic 15th year anniversary celebration of the iconic film ‘Love & Basketball’, which stars Sanaa Lathan and Omar Epps.
“We are proud to have helped create so many great new memories around a classic film,” said Amacoast Cinema co-founder Dele Aro. “We’ve been really fortunate to have worked with some fantastic partners, a special mention to We Are Parable and London Lions”.
Pop-up cinema has seen a dramatic rise in popularity over recent years, especially as audiences look for new, innovative ways to enjoy films they know and films that will turn into instant classics. Last month Amacoast Cinema’s launch event in association with We Are Parable, took black cinema to a new level with the sold out immersive and experiential event, Love & Basketball is 15. “Five months ago redefining the black cinema experience was just an idea. Seeing it come to life and being enjoyed by 750 fans is amazing,” said Amacoast Cinema co-founder Kandi Ejiofor.
Looking to the future, Dele said Amacoast Cinema would continue to stay true to their promise that is “exclusively screening black films in an immersive and experiential environment.” Dele added, “We’re excited by the challenge we have set ourselves for the next event and we’re currently brainstorming. One of the hardest parts of the process is selecting the film; there are so many classics to chose from."
The celebration took place in the legendary York Hall building – although famous for its boxing matches, the venue was transformed into an all-American basketball experience. On arrival the 750 guests were greeted by cheerleaders, tricksters and the sounds of 90s hip-hop tunes. London's only professional basketball team, London Lions, engaged the audience in hoops skills and soon after being seated guests were entertained with a slamdunk competition. www.panacheoccasions.com

Employment protection measures are often a good indication of the issues that impact on the stability of our society. As we consider the external forces that could affect your career transition; it is worth looking into the L in PESTLE which represents legislation, and employment related legislation in particular. We currently enjoy, a wide range of protection from employment legislation, in areas like: equal pay, health and safety, maternity and parental rights, sex, race, age, disability, religious, discrimination and redundancy rights to name a few. These rights recognise not only shifts in social behaviour, but also the megatrends that are taking place on a larger scale.

One of the megatrends that you can use to your advantage and which has featured in this 6-part series of blogs is the “demographic time bomb” - largely fuelled by our ageing population. Legislation around the right to work flexibly and the prevention of age discrimination is attractive to various groups depending on their life stage. For older workers who wish to reduce their hours, and who perhaps also have caring responsibilities, the prospect of a career transition triggered by redundancy, could be the perfect time to rethink and redesign their career. Self-Employment, has been touted as one of the key avenues employed by individuals facing a career transition. This trend grew significantly following the financial crash which triggered the drawn out recession begun in 2007. This “career path” continues to grow in popularity and is highly favoured and supported by the government, in terms of loans and funding opportunities. Taking stock of some or all of the above opportunity spots should help you to plan your future career strategy. There are others that you could highlight by keeping abreast of
government legislation. You could say that the writing is on the wall, or in your case – in the legislation. So beware!

s we celebrate the thirty-sixth (36th) anniversary of our Nation’s independence in various locations and commemorative activities that mirror our diversity, I take this opportunity to extend warm greetings and congratulations to all Vincentians, whether residing at home or abroad. We have achieved a tremendous milestone, and have done so while remaining true to our belief in the supremacy of Almighty God, true to our shared ideals of Nationhood and Independence, true to our sense of self and identity, and committed to each other’s welfare and well-being, our own advancement and to the overall development of our tiny Nation. In the process and throughout the course of our history, we have been beset by a multiplicity of challenges. These have run the gamut from the never-ceasing onslaught waged by the forces of neo-imperialism and the constant threat they pose to our culture and way-of-life, to the effects of climate change and the resulting unprecedented, catastrophic weather events of recent times. My purpose in outlining several of the difficulties which we have faced over the period of our history is not to convey a sense of fear and pessimism. I wish only to point to the obstacles that we have overcome and to accentuate the point that the same strength and grace that have brought us to victory time and again in the past continue to sustain us in the present and will guarantee our continued triumph in the future, always with the grace of Almighty God. It is proven yet again in the fact that, like every other country in the world, our vulnerable Small Island Developing State has witnessed and experienced the effects of the ongoing economic recession. In the midst of this, we have brought the biggest infrastructural project in our history virtually to completion.

INTRODUCING Artiste Victoria Nonye Okocha aka Nonye Toria By Mr. Lekan Olujinmi
I
had a very long talk with Nonye, in fact I had to ask her where she was, thinking I was calling her on a Kenyan phone number, but she was in Nigeria at the time, in fact, she is in the process of coming to London. We spoke for well over an hour, I found her to be a lady that was well travelled. She can sing, I mean she can really sing, after hearing her sing some soul tracks then a reggae song, I just wanted to be one that had to put an interview together to bring this shining star to light. Victoria Nonye Okocha aka Nonye Toria was born and raised in Lagos Nigeria till she left for London England at age 13. Music has always been a part of her life since childhood, she started in Sarafina Musical when she was in St Dominic’s Primary School, joined a Mo-Town band at East Berkshire College Langley, UK 2006 where she performed covers from The Temptation, Johnny Cash and Old school Blues, she later went on to perform for the Queen of England 2008 from her performing Arts School, the musical she was performing at that time was called “GodSpell” and her number “Day by Day” was the Queen’s favourite. Later that year, she also appeared in Britain’s largest soap opera “Eastenders”. Coming back to Nigeria August 2011 was the best decision she could make; she was fresh, innovative and had a creative sense. A roaring economy: vehicle industry flourishes in Ethiopia By Mr. Lekan Olujinmi
I
am so impressed that another country in Africa in industrializing its people to make what they need instead of importing it.
Ethiopia has opened its first vehicle manufacturing and assembly factory at a military base and plans to use local labour to produce automobiles for both local consumers and export. The fast growing East African economy of 94 million people has one of the lowest number of vehicle in the region with just two vehicle for every 1,000 people. According to the country’s Ministry of Transport, there were only 587,400 vehicles on the country’s roads in 2014.

The country has now created an engine and body manufacturing plant — named the Bushoftu Automative Industry (BAI) — at a military base in Mekele, some 480 miles north of the capital Addis Ababa, that is expected to produce 10,000 to 20,000 vehicles per year using local labour.
