Th e Lan gu age Leader s Pr ogr am m e Lau n ch es As some of you might know, recently, the Language Leaders programme kicked off. However, some of you might be asking yourselves, what is the Language Leaders programme? Well, the Language Leaders Programme is a course designed by top language professionals in England. It teaches children leadership skills and confidence, such as talking in front of people and leading a group of people while also strengthening their skills in the language they have chosen. This programme is headed by the French and Spanish teacher, Miss Steph, obviously because she has experience in both languages and leadership. This is the first time this has been done at Melilas. There are about 20 kids in the programme this year. If all goes well, she expects to repeat it again next year. The M1 students who joined said they are really enjoying themselves. At their weekly meeting during Monday snack/lunch, they said they think they are making progress. Most of them are looking forward to their final challenge at the end of the year where they have to teach a subject in the language they are learning to P4s (i.e. animals or numbers). However, some are very nervous. An M1 student commented, ?I feel good, but I am also pretty nervous."

All in all, it seems like the Language Leaders Programme is starting off well. The students are happy, the teacher is happy and we at the Melilas Monitor are excited to see how it goes.

Playgr ou n d Saf et y The playground is a very creative and productive area for students. When using the equipment, they can experience many health, social and cognitive benefits, however, this does not mean that they should abuse this privilege for themselves.

TIPS TO HELP: Fir st : While children are using the playground, encourage them to keep all of their Personal Goals in mind and exhibit them there.

Secon d: Little kids can play differently than big kids; it is important to have a separate play area for the little children.

Sat u Im pian (On e Dr eam ) I?m sure all of us are familiar with the term ?dream?. Many minor thoughts that appear in our minds. We all have a dream. One big dream. One dream that we will not give up whatever obstacles may hinder our journeys or whatever challenges may arise in the process. This is why Melilas students will be participating in a major Shell-sponsored project called Satu Impian. Melilas will be creating completely new ideas to solve global problems. This is an exciting topic, as we will be discussing worldwide solutions to issues that our planet may be currently facing; for instance, global warming. The cause of this project is to help promote environmentalism in local schools. We will be discussing this project throughout Term 2 and Term 3. Melilas students will be manufacturing completely new, never heard of before products in order to come up with solutions to help our planet. There will be two days of training; in what we call NXplorers. This is to prepare us for 'out of the box' thinking and problem solving strategies. Satu Impian. One Dream. Yours can change the world.

Respect BE RESPECTFUL!!! Don't think that everything you say is correct, because it might not be. Respect your classmates, teachers and your family. Teachers put all their efforts into teaching you! Parents buy clothes and houses for the good of you! And, even friends help you go through difficult times. So the least you can do is be respectful to them. Here are some ways to be respectful: -

Listen to others when they are speaking. Help them go through difficult times. Do your chores and homework, so your parents don't have to push you. Give productive comments to them for the future.

So all in all, by the words of R.G Risch:

"Respect is a two-way street, if you want to get it, you've got to give it." Edit or s: Raymond and Joel
