Term 1 Student Reporting - Timelines and Updates Parents will be emailed Term 1 reports for students who are in P2 and above, on the 26th November. Early years student reporting is based on teacher and parent conversations, with an end of year report in Term 3. This is deemed more appropriate for our early years age groups. For students who have recently arrived to Panaga School, a parent and teacher consultation will be offered as a settling-in meeting. Students who have arrived recently from P2 and above will have their first report due at the end of Term 2. Reports form an important foundation for parent and teacher conversations about student learning. Whole school parent and teacher consultations will begin from the 29th November. A booking sheet will be distributed via email and parent WhatsApp chat next week. Class teachers will conduct PN to P7 meetings, with all Melilas subject teachers accessible via the booking system for M1 and M2 students. If parents from P2 to P7 would like to speak with a specialist teacher, please email this request, so that an appointment can be coordinated. In the event that the scheduled appointment times offered are inaccessible for you and your family, please contact your child’s class teacher directly to organise a suitable appointment time. Panaga School - Wellbeing for All As we continue to work together to manage the current lockdown and remote learning situation, everybody’s wellbeing remains a focus through a range of school initiatives. Throughout October and November, a series of four online workshops have been provided by Dr. Angie Wigford, a credible education psychologist based in the United Kingdom. The following link offers further support material from Dr Wigford: https://bit.ly/3FcuhUt . We are pleased to inform you that we have also scheduled Professor Michael Bernard for an online talk titled, “Flourishing during difficult times” on Tuesday 7th December. Professor Bernard is a leading psychologist who is the founder of Panaga School’s emotional and wellbeing programme, You Can Do It! In this talk, Professor Bernard will draw from his expertise as a leading psychologist, as well as his personal experience of living in Melbourne throughout the pandemic. Melbourne is in the process of reopening, after being identified globally as spending the longest duration in lockdown. See the brochure in this week’s PSB for more information. The pages of today’s PSB are filled with fabulous contributions from families, including many very special celebrations and some great outdoor learning experiences. We also acknowledge our recently vaccinated students. Thank you to our contributors and to all of our school community, for connecting with us through PSB. It is wonderful to see that despite our remote operations, we continue to enact our school vision of together improving learning.

Diwali is all about celebrating with friends and family, celebrating the light of knowledge and kindness in our lives to expel the darkness within and around us. Ria made the best of this lockdown Diwali, exploring her artistic skills to express her thoughts and feelings about Diwali. She had fun decorating her home with lights and lamps, helping her mom prepare delicacies and teaching her little sister about Diwali. She enjoyed wearing her traditional Indian attire to celebrate this special and joyous occasion while learning a bit more about her country’s traditions. - Divya Pari stepped out of her comfort zone and learnt some dance steps on a popular Bollywood number for the school Diwali assembly. This is her attempt to share her culture, with her friends and teachers and she is extremely happy, to be able to contribute this way. - Preety

Diwali is a five day long festival which Vethista enjoyed like every year, despite the covid restriction. She was enthusiastic about making authentic Diwali sweets and snacks. She reminded me 'not to throw veggies if they look bit spoiled'. She asked me if we can dry them in the sun and make pickles out of them. Her festive mood was uplifted by implementing her home schooling study ideas and helping me with the preparations for Diwali. She has been expressing gratitude, respect and acknowledge the presence of friends and teachers since Nursery by sharing Diwali sweets. She was very excited about delivering homemade sweets and snack boxes to friends while wearing her mask, lighting diyas, sparkling firecrackers and our family fun time with all of the delicacies.

Special Edition Happy Independence Day Poland & Welcome Nel
Hello, I am Nel. I'm coming from Poland. I started my school adventure here in Panaga in the Sunbear class. I think I am a good student. I like to complete challenging school activities, especially the outdoor ones. I love solving puzzles and reading books. That's why my favorite part of a school day is the story time. In my free time I like to be on the beach, swim in the sea and to thank nature, I clean the beach from time to time. Below, I’d like to share with everybody some very special information about my home.
On the 11th of November, I wore a special dress. It's a traditional Polish folk dress. Why I am wearing it? Because I am celebrating Polish independence day. What do we do to celebrate? The most important focus is our flag. It's white and red. You can see an eagle with a crown on his head in the flag. It's really an important symbol. Everything starts from the flag. The Polsih flag is everywhere. On the streets, balconies, windows and in our hands. We are waiving them, dancing with them and singing with them. Happy Independence Day Poland. - Kamila nowledge,

Special Edition Well done and thank you to all who supported our outdoor learning activities this week. Teachers planned some great outdoor learning and it was wonderful to see so many children actively engaged with the learning tasks set. Further outdoor learning will continue to present periodically. Learning outside of the classroom has benefits such as: * Naturally
encourages creativity, problem solving and teamwork.
* Develops
an understanding of the need for sustainable relationships between people and their environment.
* Allows
for ‘breathing space’, when having ‘fun’ away from everyday pressures, children are motivated and inspired to learn as there are less boundaries.
* Increases
physical health, mental wellbeing and aesthetic awareness.
Together, we can make sure time outdoors is part of every day for every child.

Elsie Learning at the Beach Elsie had to see how far she could perform a long jump and use a tape measure to measure her distance. She did this 5 times and with the results, completed some calculations for maths. Like a true professional, she went to the beach to jump in the sand, which was much more fun than a track and field sand pit. - Nikki
Sarisha’s Kite Flying Sarisha loves outdoor activities and she has learnt a few new games. She loves playing "Seven Stones" and Badminton. She learnt Kite flying as well. She took pictures of various plants, leaves and bark from trees to learn more about them through Internet research. - Rupam
Mairah scavenger hunt Mairah enjoyed her outdoor learning week. The highlight of which was her nature scavenger hunt. She tried to find as many things on the list as possible. She enjoyed looking closely at bugs, butterflies, spiders and other small creatures as she went on her hunt. This nature loving girl wouldn’t mind spending hours outdoors observing and learning, while not forgetting to have fun too. - Roshini

Special Edition Noah’s Discovery
Noah went outside and gathered up some leaves and petals to create a flower, using an existing tree root as the stem. He noticed a pretty cool looking fungi under our stairs, where we also met a little frog.
Rachit’s Long Jump It was great to work on maths, especially when you are challenging against world records in standing long jump! Rachit enjoyed recording his jumps on the outside lawn and then completed his maths task. He is going to try recording jumping on the beach and see if sand makes any difference in getting better long jump results.
Vian’s New Plants Vian is looking forward to take care of his newly planted watermelon and pumpkin seeds. He followed all the steps carefully and was particular to do all things right so that a healthy plant grows. nowledge,

The Grants had fun watching bees The Grants are super excited that a swarm of stingless bees made their home in one of our planters. Owen and Mommy had fun watching the bees as they arrived back at their hive today with legs packed with pollen from the white Bougainvilleas in the yard. Their big fat white back legs were clean when the bees emerged from the hive again. Owen and William have been planting local blue pea seeds to grow more flowering plants in their yard for the bees, with the intent of planting them where they won’t be cut down in the future. William’s class is focusing on seed planting now, so he and his brother have planted enough seeds to give one seedling to each child in Miss Ali’s class in order to feed the bees across camp.
Sarah grows her love for beautiful nature...
Sarah is slowly growing connections with the beautiful nature around her. She spent time this week planting flower plants in the garden and watering them. She recently listened to the story “Not a Stick” by Miss Shelagh during story time. She tried to imagine playing outside, using the stick as a fishing rod. She also watches small birds in camp using her Daddy’s binoculars. She is super excited and happy if she can spot little baby birds in a tree. The beach is another favorite place for her to visit. She walks along the sea with us. She thinks that the sun goes to sleep every evening and will get up the next morning. We love to hear her thoughts on the setting sun, which is full of her imagination. Outdoor activities are indeed a key to building a strong bond between children and nature. They do help in improving the development of the child. We intend to continue doing these and more fun filled outdoor activities. - Shilpi

Special Edition Risha and Kiara - Literacy Development Risha and Kiara love to practice building words sound by sound, from simple CVC words to more challenging words with blends, digraphs and trigraphs! Experimenting with phonics on their magnetic boards is one of their favorite leisure activities. They have started off with simple words and gradually progressed into making long sentences on the board. NESSY has played a vital role in developing their interest in phonics even further. - Dipa
Sarisha Prepared for Halloween
Sarisha spent her free time in preparation for Halloween. She made a haunted house using cardboard and made other items like ghosts using paper. It was the first time she made Jack o lantern. She decorated some cookies as well. She executed all her ideas and decorated our patio beautifully for Halloween. She dressed up like a ghost and asked me to be like a cat on the Halloween day. She painted her white top with a ghostly look and did face-painting for herself and me. Altogether it was one of the best Halloween we have ever had. - Rupam

Special Edition Caroline’s Charity Ride for CAS
My name is Caroline Scheck and I’m a student in M1P. My family and I embarked on a 100 km fundraiser bike ride on Saturday, 30th October. Our goal was to raise at least $100 for CAS (Care Actions for Strays). Thanks to the great support from the community, we were well above our target sum, before we even mounted our bikes. A big thank you to all donors! In total we collected $510, a cat carrier and two bags food for donation. Team Amigos also sponsored me with a free jersey and bib short, which I wore during the charity ride. I would never have dreamed of achieving such a fantastic result! With the $510 we bought a lot of food for the animals. It was so much, it hardly fit in our car. CAS now has more funds to look after abandoned animals here in Brunei – when we pull together, we can make a change! You still can contribute to this worthy cause by putting items for CAS in the “red bin” at SupaSave.

Special Edition This week M1 did an investigation on composite materials. They investigated the strengths of a variety of salt dough bricks, adding their own “aggregates” to the “binding agent” of the dough. The test was to survive an impact from a variety of heights. Proper attention was paid to risks and safety and I was very impressed with the scientific techniques displayed by many of the pupils. Well done! Result: Before
After
Observation: Weakest : Nut - It kept falling apart when I was holding it Rice - It broke easily but it kind of works Pasta - It held together the longest but the pasta fell out Result:
VIDISHA (M1P)
Conclusion: I concluded that the strongest brick was the one with added wire, I think this is because the rolled up wire held the dough together and kept it from breaking. My aim was to see which brick would be the strongest: The wire salt dough brick.

Evaluation: The interesting thing about this experiment for me is the strongest version of the dough was the plain one, which took 270 centimetres off the tarmac to break. This surprised me, along with the fact that the dough I thought would be the strongest (the popcorn kernel) broke on the second drop.

Thank you to the Scheck family who have kindly passed on the following physics experiments linked to Christmas, that may be of interest to others. Dear "PiA - Physics in Advent" friends, Under the motto "still 24 experiments until Christmas" we offer 24 entertaining physics experiments to do yourself again this year. Due to the great interest from abroad, physics in Advent will, as in previous years, also be available in English.
Who may take part in Physics in Advent?
PiA is designed for pupils in grades five to ten and from 11 to 18 years of age. However, based on the experience of previous years, parents, teachers, students or those simply interested in physical phenomena also take great pleasure in it. This year, adults in companies, departments and circles of friends are also encouraged to join in as a team and solve the riddle. You can watch a simple experiment every day from 1 to 24 December on YouTube, which you can be easily do yourself using standard household materials. Afterwards you will try to explain the phenomena, with four possible answers. The next day, the solution is available - again via YouTube video. If you wish, the results can be evaluated: individually, for a school class or even for whole schools.
Anyone can register!
