Pre-Nursery Exit Point: This is Me!
This half-term PN have been learning about ourselves and the Exit Point was about our morning routines and how we feel. The children arrived to school in the PJs with a “overnight” bag. We settled them to ‘sleep’ with a story. They woke up, stretched and sang a wake up song. After breakfast, they cleaned their teeth and got dressed. Later, there was an ‘emotions hunt’and the children looked for different emotions hidden in the playground.

We used our enquiry skills to ask questions and we were adaptable as we moved between different stations, learning how our temperature is taken, listening to our heart beat, role playing how to put a bandage on and the importance of washing our hands properly.

We are very excited to announce that Language Leaders has returned to Melilas.
This year we have a huge group of participants - 37 students have decided to take part in the language leaders programme. Also this year we have a group of teachers from different areas of the school, supporting this programme: Miss Suzanne, Miss Sonia, Miss Sarah, Miss Duck, Miss Charlotte and Miss Steph. This is great as each of these teachers have different experiences they can share with the students.
The principal benefits of the Language LeadersAward Programme are:
Rewarding their language learning
Giving them a purpose and context for their language skills
Developing their generic communication and leadership skills
Giving them a better understanding of the role of the teacher
Enhancing their self-esteem and confidence
Improving their evaluative and analytical skills
Increasing their attainment in a foreign language
Issue 126 | 21st October 2022
The Language Leaders meet everyThursday at lunchtime. This term, the aim is for the students to teach P2 and P3 students a foreign language of their choice. They have already chosen their topic and language. Eventually, they will plan a lesson with various activities. In November, in two groups, they will visit P2 and P3 and will observe Miss Steph teaching a foreign language a this will give them an idea of what is expected of them.
For the last few weeks, the students have been learning about different language games they could play with the younger students. They love playing the games, however they are also asked to reflect on the games.
What would happen if a child is crying because he/she lost?
What would happen if a child did not manage to join a group?
What safety instructions do we have to give beforehand?
What do we have to consider before playing a game?
When in the lesson would you play the game?
We will keep you updated as the programme progresses. We have many exciting things lined up and all will be revealed soon.

The Language LeadersTeam
On the 26th September, countries in Europe celebrate ‘European Day of Language. The aim of this day is to raise awareness of the wide variety of languages in Europe; to promote cultural heritage and linguistic diversity and encourage people of all ages to learn languages.
In French, over the last few weeks P6 - M2 have celebrated this event if different ways.
In P6, students participated in an event where they had to answer questions about different topics related to Europe. It was a difficult challenge. However, the students did extremely well. The topics covered were History, Languages, Geography, Science, English and Maths.
Issue 126 | 21st October 2022
In P7 and M1A. students were asked to choose a European country. They had to produce a poster using Publisher about their chosen country, It was quite a challenge as they could only use one page. Students love using multiple pages for a presentation. They then had two write in three languages. English for the main facts. French and the language of their chosen country for numbers 1-10 and various questions.
P7 also had to include rivers which is linked to their current IPC unit.

The Big Pedal
Over the past 3 weeks many children and adults have been enjoying the great outdoors on their bikes. This is a fantastic way to boost both physical and emotional health and well-being . Additionally, ditching the car and cycling to school and work also helps reduce our carbon emissions. Both of which support the UN Sustainable Goals.
Across the school, children from as young as Pre-Nursery right up to MiddleYears have been taking part. The impact of these cycling efforts have been seen across the community with full bike racks at both school and the panaga club.
