Visit from a Paramedic
Mendaram’s International Early Years Curriculum Unit
“To the Rescue” involves hearing all about real heroes. Nicola Hart, came to talk to the children about her job working as a Paramedic for the Scottish Ambulance Service. She shared photos of her ambulance, talked about the different jobs the ambulance team has and that they take it in turn to drive the ambulance. We found out Nicola needs to wear special protective clothing when working and carry a medical kit bag when responding to an emergency. We all got to try some of the medical equipment that is used when there is an emergency and we leant how to treat a (pretend) patient and put on a bandage.
Ask your child if they know the number and how to call an ambulance if it is needed in an emergency?

Learning Beyond the Classroom
Anyone who has spent time at the Rampayoh sandpit recently can’t have helped but notice there has been a major project underway. For a number of weeks now, a group of children have been displaying a wealth of personal qualities as they transform the sandpit into a ‘Luxury Pool’, complete with steps, slides, sculptures, water features and even a bridge the children can crawl under. Well done everyone for your continued resilience, cooperation, reflection and creativity!

WHOLE SCHOOL
M2 students have been learning to program the Edison robot to complete everyday tasks. They have learned to program the robot using barcodes, Scratch and are now using Python to control the robot. Presently, they are applying their learning in a self-guidedassessmentchallenge to code Edison using Python to solveproblems.
To support the Fairgrounds inquiry the P6 students have been learning to use the Algaodoo physics simulator. They have simulated real world scenarios, such as a ferris wheel and balancing a car on an incline by manipulating materials, gravity and variables to observe the results.

Melilas Tree Project
This week we planted more seeds and carried out some maintenance to the tree nursery. The grass was cut and the seeds were arranged so they were in the best positions to grow. We also soaked some seeds to start the germination process.

M1 Book Study
The children in M1 have been reading the book “Holes’ by Louis Sachar this half-term. For a homework assignment, the children were asked to create the setting for the book, which is a juveniledetention centre in the desert. We were truly amazed by the effort the children put into their work. We hope you enjoy looking at their spectacular scenes as much as they enjoyed making them!
