Dear Parents,

What a fabulous start to the 2023-24 academic year. The children have really 'hit the ground running', flexing their learning muscles and exhibiting all of the personal qualities we value.

Through this bi-weekly you will see a snapshot of the extensive and inclusive learning activities and challenges our wonderful teachers have designed for your children. We have children in Medaram already developing their resilience and those in P1 developing their enquiry skills. P3 provided a wonderfully extravagant entry point for their International Food Fair, while P5 showed us how creative and resilient they are. P6 have been working on their entry point of 'CE 900', learning all about chronology and their personal history. I can't wait to see what P7 will produce now that they have embarked on their 'Bake it' Science unit whilst also beginning their entry point with 'Go with the Flow'! There are some marvellous portrait galleries being produced in Drama, our Digital Education students are coding and M1 are building cells! Melilas celebrated Literacy Day with a visit to the Panaga Club Library, kindly hosted by Ms. Nova. Melilas have also been focusing in PSHE on celebrating how unique we all are, whilst acknowledging our responsibilities to our community. I am exhausted just writing about all of these marvellous activities - please do read ahead and find out more.

I did write to parents on Monday regarding a medical incident involving a teacher during break time. Ms. Sarah, our Music teacher, has been admitted to hospital and remains there, receiving excellent medical care. The last 24 hours have brought some positive signs and all of our thoughts and best wishes are with Sarah and her family. Sarah's husband, Gianfranco would like to thank the community for their continued support and best wishes during this difficult time.

Thank you to all of the parents that attended our 'Meet the Teacher' information sessions; if you have any feedback on these sessions please do contact me on: brianplatts@panagaschool.net

Thank you to all of those parents that volunteered to be Parent Reps for this academic year. We will be meeting our Reps next Tuesday (19th Sept) in the Rampayoh Staffroom at 1:00pm.

The PTA will be holding their Annual General Meeting on Tuesday 26th September at 6:00 pm on theTeraja site, in the Staffroom. The PTABoard will formally invite you all next week, but please put a note in your calendars and please do attend. Outstanding schools, like our school, can only continue to excel and provide your children with the very best care and education when all members of the community are involved and have a voice.

A final notice from me is that Friday 22nd September will now be a non school day i.e. children and staff will be on holiday. This day has been approved and is part of the Teacher Appreciation celebrations taking place on Saturday 23rd September.

Enjoy reading the rest of this Bi-Weekly and I hope to see some of you at the Spelling Bee competition at the Panaga Club tomorrow morning.

Have a lovely weekend.

Brian, SLTand all of our staff.

The Melilas students celebrated International Literacy Day by visiting the Panaga Club Library. Nova Dudley-Gough, the Library’s Chairperson, kindly showed the students around, sharing some of the fabulous resources available. This was a first visit for many students who were interested to find books related to their History, Geography and English studies at school, as well as various magazines and books on Borneo and Dutch Language.

The students discovered that various activities such as Book Club and Film Club details, are regularly updated on the Library’s Instagram and Facebook platforms. If you would like to know more about the Panaga library, please check the Panaga Club website for further details.

The Melilas students would like to thank Ms Nova for giving up her time to show them around and we acknowledge all of the volunteers who work at the library for the fantastic work they do. An interesting morning enjoyed by all who attended.

Marvellous Melilas

Through tutor time and PSHE Melilas students have been exploring how we are all unique but we all fit together. We celebrate our individuality whilst also looking for similarities and connections.

Linked to this - students spent their first English lesson of the term writing Kennings (M1) and Riddles (M2) about themselves. We then created an interactive Guess Who display. Here’s a small sample - can you guess
