Dear Parents,
I hope everyone had a good term break and Selamat Hari Raya to all of our Muslim families.
This week was a celebration of books and reading and our students were treated to a variety of exciting challenges and experiences, including Pyjama Day, spoon story characters, the door challenge and mystery readers culminating in a fabulous assembly today with everyone dressed as characters from their favourite books. Each student was also presented with a book, due to the generosity of our PTA. Thank you to Ms. Sam, Ms. Tania, Ms. Sonia and the rest of the team of teachers for organising such a great range of events.
How fabulous were P6 and P7's performances of Cinderella Rockerfella? It is always such a privilege to watch children who have worked so hard and confidently to display and share their talents with us. I was smiling, laughing, tapping my feet and in constant awe at their levels of performance, along with everybody else. They provided so much joy to the audiences on three consecutive days and were obviously having a lot of fun in the process. I know how hard each and every child worked in their rehearsals and practising at home. Their sense of individual and collective achievement was palpable and very much deserved. Thank you to you, our parents, for supporting the production in so many ways. Thank you to our staff, especially Ms. Karachi, whose vision, enthusiasm and professionalism was instrumental in the success. Thank you P6 and P7 - you have set the bar very high and I can't wait for the next production.

International Day is only a few weeks away. We can't wait to celebrate our international community and international mindedness. Everyone is invited onto the Teraja campus for a fun packed day, including a parade, performances, map murals, rock art, games from around the world, movies and photo booths. There will also, of course, be parent stalls celebrating over 20 different countries - thank you so much to those parents who have already volunteered and to the PTA for helping to organise and coordinate, what will undoubtedly be a wonderful event. I will provide more details in the next Bi Weekly. If you would still like to get involved, please reach out to the PTA and please mark your diaries for Friday 17th May.
Another date to mark your diary with will be a Parent Information Session on Wednesday 12th June, where we will be providing updates on the transition to our partnership with JIS in preparation for the new 2024/5 academic year.
Please do enjoy reading through the rest of the Bi Weekly celebrating your children's plethora of learning experiences and achievements.
Wishing you a lovely, peaceful and safe weekend.
Best Wishes, Brian, SLTand all of our staff

For months on end, the sounds of singing, stomping feet, lacy long gowns hitting the floor and the clinks of gold accessories rubbing against leather could be heard from the Drama studio. The P6s and P7s were hard at work getting ready for their performance of CINDERELLA ROCKERFELLA.
Every character had a place, a timing, a blocking, a facial expression and a personality. You could not pull off your role without depending on another. Will they make it? Will they succeed?
They did! With flying colours too! From the 22nd till the 24th of April, these amazing P6 and P7 students worked with the professionalism rivaling Broadway actors and gave a truly memorable and hall-rousing performance. Every personality shone regardless the role they played. It was definitely not easy but it taught them life-skills and gave them a first hand experience of how hard work pays.

Language Leader’s visit to Merangking
On Saturday the 9th of March, 14 of the Language Leaders (LL) went to Merangking to teach English as a foreign language. On arrival at Merangking, the students were given an ice breaker activity in order to get to know the Merangking students. They were given a sheet of paper with questions about each student in Merangking, all 33 of them.
After this, we played a game called ‘Bang’, which our students occasionally play in drama. All the students made a huge circle and two of our students demonstrated how the game was played. One person stands in the middle as the so called sheriff and points at other players who must quickly crouch while those on either side of them quickly “draw”. The person who gets shot first has to sit down and is out. The game, although confusing at first, generated a lot of laughter.

After the ice-breakers and a short break it was time for our LL to teach. Our LL thoroughly enjoyed the experience teaching English, however at the same time they found it quite challenging. The LL were given the task of teaching English grammar, from the present simple in Year 1 to the past simple v. the past continuous in Year 6. Our students realised that it was quite difficult to explain when you would use certain grammatical structures even though they speak fluent English. Furthermore, it is even more challenging when the students you teach are not native speakers. However, our students persevered and with a little assistance from various teachers, the students managed to complete the worksheets that they created. Except for an explanation of the tenses, our LL prepared the lessons themselves, from the starter to various differentiated worksheets, and games in the plenary. We are extremely proud of our LL as they have achieved so much this year. The LL just keep on surprising us. We keep on giving them challenges and they just excel at them.
