Dear Parents,

It has certainly been a busy couple of weeks. There have been so many trips and performances where our students have had the opportunity to showcase and develop their considerable skills, personal qualities and be part of a collective effort. It has also been wonderful to see so many parents in school supporting their children and seeing first hand the extent of their learning.

P3 and P4 had super trips to the Tropical Biodiversity Centre and the BruneiArmed Forces in Tutong. P4 and P5 showcased their talents on Wednesday with a broad range of performances, including music, shadow theatre, clown skits to name but a few! Melilas enjoyed their residential trip to Temburong last week and then performed a wonderful Shakespeare Showcase yesterday. I don't know where they get their energy from or indeed, Ms. Karachi, who led the performances ably supported by our great team of teachers. Today, we also had wonderful assemblies from P3E and P6S.

International Day is next Friday. We are looking forward to everyone celebrating their own country and culture and those of our friends. The aim of the day is bring all of the children, staff, parents and guests together to demonstrate our international mindedness, to learn more about each other and to recognise and celebrate sameness and differences, whilst having fun in the process!

We are looking forward to everyone proudly wearing clothes that represent your home country and if possible, have a flag or mascot to wave.

All parents are invited to attend and may join in the activities with their children but are asked to follow the instructions of the teachers! There will also be a Coffee Bean and Boost Juice (outside the library) for adults to purchase drinks from. M1 and M2 may bring money and purchase drinks from Boost Juice, not Coffee Bean. All other students may have drinks bought for them by their parents.

Children should bring a morning snack with them and also an empty container to pick up some food that may be available from the international stalls. Thank you so much to the parents that have registered to run a stall; I am excited to see everything in its full pomp on Friday!

We are asking parents from Mendaram and Rampayoh to drop their children off at the Teraja Campus on Friday morning between 7:30 and 7:40 am. Parents are asked to use all available car parks to avoid congestion. If children from Rampayoh will be using their bikes on Friday, can parents please go to Rampayoh as normal with the bikes and then walk your children over to Teraja (as teachers will be walking all children back to Rampayoh at the end of the day for dismissal and won't be able to do this with bikes).

I have included further information about the day on the attached document, including the full schedule for the day. Updates will be provided on the Parents WhatsApp group leading up to the event next week, regarding further information, advice and weather updates.

TERM BREAK

Pre-Nursery have been learning the story Jack and the Beanstalk.

We planted our own magic beans!

We drew our own Giant and we built our own castles. We played in role in the castle.

Run, run, as fast as you can…

Nursery children have been learning through the story of The Gingerbread Man. We have re-told the story using props, drawn the story and learnt a counting song about 5 Gingerbread Men.

As the grand finale, the children made their own gingerbread man with Matea’s Mum.

The children used their maths, communication and enquiry skills.

Fortunately, their gingerbread men didn’t run away!

Hip Hip Hooray for Sensory Play

Enquiry and creativity skills have been in abundance in P1 as the children engage in a range of sensory activities. These experiences improve cooperation, communication, coordination and reflection.

P3/Language Leaders trip to Merangking School

On Monday 29th April, the P3 students and the M1 LL went to Merangking for team building activities. This is the first time that we have taken younger children to Merangking school. Both the P3 students and the Meranking students were very excited to meet each other. We mixed up the P3 students with the Merangking students for the activities, which were run by the LL.

Lego car challenge

In groups, students were tasked with building a Lego car. They were given 15 minutes for the task. After this, we used a ramp to see how far the car would go. The winning car reached 1.72 cm.

Lego chicken challenge

In their groups, the students had to build a Lego chicken with just 17 pieces of Lego. They had to try and build it like the example. At the beginning only one person per group was allowed to see the building instructions. That person then would help out without touching the bricks. This was quite challenging so in the end the students all got to see the instructions.

Colour by number

In pairs, the students coloured in colour by number worksheets.

Spaghetti tower challenge

The students had a fantastic time at Merangking school and it was great to see the students mingling with each other and working together. The students loved all the challenges, including the charades task. WeareextremelyproudofourP3students astheyshowedusallthepersonalqualities. Hopefullywecandosomethingsimilaragain in the future as it is great to see our students mixing with new students. Well done to our Language Leaders for leading theactivitiesandbeingsupportive.

P4 trip to Royal Brunei Armed Forces

As part of our IPC unit. “How Humans Work”, P4 had the privilege of visiting the RBAF in Tutong. We learned how to keep fit and healthy, army style, and enjoyed participating in many different fitness activities with the men and women in the armed forces. We worked very hard and some of the exercises were quite hard. But we didn’t give up!

We were shown how to complete the obstacle course and we were all successful. We watched how the soldiers cook their army rations, when they are in the jungle and were able to taste it. We all thought it was delicious. The food is designed and prepared to keep themfitandhealthy.

Fringe Festivals are experimental performance pieces done in unconventional spaces for curated audiences. The P4s and P5s pulled off the first one in Panaga School and it was awesome! With clown skits, shadow theater pieces, live musical recitals, family yoga, radio drama and a picnic complete with a live band, it was indeed a celebration
