Welcome to the 2012/2013 Yearbook As I reflect on the events of this academic year that are clearly highlighted in this Yearbook, I find it impressive to observe the number of learning opportunities that we have provided to all of our children at Panaga School. The numerous sports events, the shows, school trips, Student Council, all help to create the rich fabric of our school. At Panaga, we aim to provide a number of learning focused activities, where all children have the opportunity to “shine”. These can be in the field of sport, creative arts or the more traditional elements of schooling. Our aim is always to provide opportunities and to guide our children in order to achieve. As Yeats once commented, “Education is not the filling of a pail but the lighting of a fire”, I hope in the pages of this Yearbook you see plenty of “combustion”. A huge debt of gratitude is due to all staff and the Yearbook Committee for bringing this whole Yearbook together! Also, many thanks to the PTA who have partly contributed to its funding. One of our key achievements this year has been greater involvement with the wider community. This has been a positive step forward and we now have regular exchanges with local schools, both at a teacher and student level. As an international school, we will continue to develop and foster these relationships so that our community continues to develop further their international mindset. Certainly one of the highlights this year was the celebration of the Brunei National Day which was organised and led by our Bruneian Staff. As a school going through a large expansion process, I think we can all say that the arrival of next term and the completion of this project will be eagerly anticipated. It is an exciting prospect to have an even larger school and another several classrooms to fill with learning focused students and teachers. Inevitably at this time of year, we bid fond farewells to several families who have been part of the community for several years. While it is always sad to see people leave, it is also an exciting opportunity for them to engage in new adventures. We wish them good luck as they disperse to all corners of the globe. I would like to acknowledge the excellent work of the entire staff and their commitment to all of our children. It has been a real pleasure to work with such dedicated professionals. This has been another outstanding year which would not have occurred without the sustained efforts of several other members of our community including our Board of Governors, PTA, BSP, parents and the whole of the Panaga community. I am sure you will take pleasure in flicking through the pages of this book and reliving many of the exciting and stimulating events that have taken place this year! Thank you and best wishes, Tim Robinson, Principal
