Parent Representatives Thank you to the 23 Parent Representatives who attended last week’s first Parent Representative Meeting of this academic year. Not only does our Parent Representative group assist with important information dissemination, they also play a crucial role in helping steer Panaga School’s strategic direction. Special Education Needs Last week, Dr Angie Wigford, of International Educational Psychology Services, was engaged by Shell Global Education Services to visit Panaga School. Dr Wigford’s visit focused on current policies and practices in relation to special education needs at Panaga School. Her visit included a range of parent engagements, teacher engagements, classroom visits and reviews of current policies and procedures. As a result of Dr Wigford’s visit, a report is expected, offering an analysis of current school practices and recommendations for consideration to result in improvements of inclusive special education provisions at Panaga School. Special education needs is a part of the agenda for our next School Board Meeting in November.
Growing a Whole School Vision During the week beginning Monday 14th October, the Panaga School Community will engage in sessions facilitated by visiting education consultant, Robin Belles. These sessions are planned to create a whole school vision to guide Panaga School’s cindybintahal@panagaschool.com strategic direction and align all stakeholders.

In the lead up to establishing our whole school vision, a variety of engagements are taking place to assist with the creation of shared definitions in relation to “learning” and “international mindedness”. Shared definitions of such terms are fundamental for an International Early Years Curriculum (IEYC) and International Primary Curriculum (IPC) school community. Meet the Teacher presentations provided parents with insights into such education concepts, to allow some slow thinking about what this means for individual families. Last week, one of our International Primary Curriculum (IPC) leaders, Miss Miriam, engaged with Parent Representatives to discuss the concept of ‘international mindedness’ and what this means for our learners. Next week, we would like to ask you to think about what learning means for your family. Please do take the time to discuss this together. It would be useful to have some child friendly language, so if you can offer us a quote about what learning is, please do share this. Fieldwork Education, who lead the IEYC and IPC, define learning as: ...the process of extending and consolidating our neuronal connections as we acquire Knowledge, develop Skills and deepen our Understandings. Our team will be working with Robin to grow our whole school vision. Please email Miss Miriam (miriamkerkhof@panagaschool.net) with your quote and any further input, or call into one of her Dutch classrooms at either school site for a conversation.
damianbrady@panagaschool.com A reminder: Monday 23rd September is a school closure day in recognition of National Teachers Day. I would like to take this opportunity to acknowledge the world-class teachers of Panaga School. Wishing you all a wonderful weekend. Regards, Cindy

Updates from the Head Teacher’s Desk Haze Life in Panaga is never straight-forward and after such a wonderful start to the year, the Haze arrives and everything changes. However, this change has highlighted once again the adaptability of our children. They have coped so well with the lack of outdoor activity and have shown such maturity across the school in understanding the need for caution. We are delighted with the quick response of the IFM team installing air purifiers within every classroom and hope that the Haze will end soon. Spot on! Seeing spots in front of your eyes is something that doctors warn us about, but this Monday it was impossible to escape the dots in Pre-Nursery, Nursery and P1. There were dots on the floors, spots on the walls and dots all over the children, teachers and LSAs.
The children had a wonderful time exploring dots and some wonderful pictures were produced across the school. There was so much excitement for dots that I was refused entry by P1 until I could show them my spotty tie.
Safety reminder of the week We are so fortunate within Panaga that our children are able to safely cycle to school each day. However, ensuring the children are safe also means taking the time to ensure helmets are not only worn but fitted correctly. A number of children this week have been observed with some very loosely fitting helmets which they are able to remove without undoing the straps. Please, over the long weekend, take time to ensure your children’s helmets are fitted correctly.

Doodle Maths - Troubleshooting Doodle Maths is constantly being improved and the website is frequently updated which means that occasionally you may find yourselves in unfamiliar territory or experience problems regarding access to your child’s progress. When faced with such problems, it is actually easier for you to communicate directly with the Doodle Maths team rather than through the class teachers. If you log on to the website, you will see a small blue chat icon in the bottom right hand corner of the screen. When you click on this you will immediately be able to get in touch with the home support team. If you are unsure of what is accessible to you as a parent, please click on the link below. This will take you to an article which will provide you with information that can support your understanding of the program. https://help.doodlehq.com/en/articles/3027051-doodleconnect

We loved Book Week in Nursery Nursery had a fantastic time celebrating Book Week. We had so much fun dressing up as our favourite book characters, having visitors in to read us books and hearing a story told by Clive Piggot. Teraja and Melilas Adventures: The Week of Books Once upon a time, in a school far, far away, the children celebrated their love of reading and story books. Book Week became known as a magical week of hope and wonder. The children began the week by dressing up as book characters or authors and parading around the school. Their creativity was unparalleled. Throughout the week, these story enthusiasts participated in several challenges. They decorated their classroom doors with clues so others could guess which books were being shown. They also had to figure out their teachers’ favourite books in a Guess Who? quiz. Finally, some of the more adventurous pupils showed off their Extreme Reading skills with photographs.

In the UK, a famous storyteller heard of the children’s love of reading and stories, so he decided to visit the school. Mr Clive PiG told thrilling tales and helped the children harness their storytelling power as well. The children adored Mr Clive and showed great enthusiasm (with lots of giggling) during his workshops and performances. Overall, it was a beautiful week of reading and learning. A job well done to everyone.

Miss Amy and Miss Claire led an assembly with Rampayoh students to introduce International Coastal Clean Up Day on Saturday 21st September. The children explored how they can help to reduce plastic pollution. They also learnt about how they can share their efforts with family and friends using the following app:

P6S
It has been amazing start to P6 and P7 French. All of the students have been super enthusiastic and we are having a lot of fun. Within a short period of time, they can already produce short spoken and written dialogues in French. P6S had also been very helpful and decorated two doors for French, for Book Week. The girls created a ‘Tintin’ themed door and the boys an ‘Asterix and Obelix’ door.

In P7 French, the students were asked to create a written, as well as a verbal dialogue, using all of the language they have learnt over the last few weeks. The dialogues the students created, both written and spoken, were truly amazing and of an extremely high standard. A great start, P7!

M1 pupils excelled themselves in the Cells topic this term. The unit culminated with a culinary exposĂŠ of their learning. Cytoplasm was set in jelly, organelles were crafted from jellied sweets, long strips of candy and good old cake icing. We had root hair cells, nerve cells with delicious dendrons and even a fertilised egg. Outstanding work, M1. - Mr Simon

With Mr Simon
M2 pupils conducted an investigation into the abduction and subsequent consumption of Mr Simon’s sandwich this week. The quick thinking sleuths took a sample of the ink from the thief’s gloating note and used their learning about solvents and solubility to produce a chromatogram. This they then compared to a sample of black pens gathered from the usual suspects around the Teraja site. Mr Paul, a man of low cunning, had thought to disguise his guilt by using a pen with ink that is insoluble in water. The quick thinking M2 investigators found other solvents able to dissolve the ink! They produced comparative chromatograms to seal his fate and eliminate the other suspects from their enquiry. Mr Simon now stores his sandwiches in his classroom!
