Today’s edition of Panaga School Weekly marks the end of Term 1.1. Thank you Teachers! I’d like to extend tremendous thanks to the phenomenal team of teachers at Panaga School, who have started this academic year with captivating learning opportunities for students both inside and outside the classroom. Panaga School’s Mission and Vision Throughout Term 1.1, we have worked towards building the foundations for an aligned school community, with Robin Belles’s assistance this week. Definitions of learning and International Mindedness, along with Panaga School’s Mission and Vision Statements have been the foci of several engagement sessions over the past 6 weeks. All members of the community are thanked for their input throughout various engagements and forums. Personal Qualities and You Can Do It! Today, we concluded Term 1.1 with a whole school morning assembly and shared break time at Rampayoh. This assembly provided an Exit Point for students, with classes presenting Personal Qualities in a variety of ways, including singing, visual presentations and acting. At Panaga School, our curriculum from Pre-Nursery right through to M2 is designed to develop people with the Personal Qualities of: Cooperation, Respect, Resilience, Reflection, Integrity, Communication, Enquiry and Adaptability. International Mindedness is both a quality and a lens that we use to study and learn about the world and each other from. We have spent the past 12 months developing an aligned terminology and local Borneo animal references for our Personal Qualities. International Mindedness is symbolised by a whale - a large mammal that travels great distances around the globe.
The You Can Do It! Curriculum was introduced to students from P2 to M2, teaching social-emotional learning with lessons in how we develop organisation, confidence, resilience, persistence and getting along skills to enable our Personal Qualities.
Panaga School Weekly editor: Wishing everybody a wonderful week next week. For those travelling, Damian Brady damianbrady@panagaschool.com safe travels! We look forward to welcoming everybody back to school on Monday 28th October. Regards, Cindy

Updates from the Head Teacher’s Desk Once again, another half term at Panaga School has flown by! Within the school, there has been so many opportunities this week for the children to reflect on their learning since the start of the term. Each and every child has grown and developed in their own unique way. Over the holidays, take the time to allow your children to share all they have learnt with you. I wish you all a very happy, safe and enjoyable week. - Mr Mark
Exit Points
As the half term comes to an end, we have had a number of Exit Points across the school. Exit Points are designed to allow children to pull their learning together from across the unit and celebrate it. They allow the children to share all of the new skills, knowledge and understanding they have gained in class. Exit Points can take many different forms that allow the children to experience new ways to enjoy and model their learning with each other, their parents and teachers. Across the year, parents have and will be invited in to these Exit Points to allow you to see first hand your child’s development. This week, children from PN-P3 have shared their learning with their parents in a selection of ways from songs to teaching to play.
Monkey safety
Over the past few weeks, we have had an increase in the number of school visits from our local resident macaque monkeys. As a school, we spend time ensuring we teach the children all about Monkey Safety and the need for them to be cautious around these animals. I would ask that as parents you help to reinforce this at home and make your children aware of the need to ensure they are safe when they encounter these animals on the Panaga camp. Whilst these creatures are wonderful to see in their natural habitat, they are also a very real danger.

We use our Personal Qualities every day in our learning The Personal Qualities underpin those individual qualities and learning dispositions that IPC believes children will find essential throughout the first half of the 21st Century. There are eight IPC Personal Qualities. (Communication, Reflection, Resilience, Adaptability, Respect, Cooperation, Integrity and Enquiry)
We used Communication, Cooperation, Reflection, Resilience, Adaptability and friendship to help us to consolidate our Maths learning by playing Maths games.
We used Resilience, Respect, Cooperation, Integrity, Communication, and Reflection to help us consolidate our Maths learning. We also learned more about our new friend (Yaren).
Panaga School Weekly, Issue Forty, 18th October 2019
This half term, we launched our new logos for our Personal Qualities. Each class have been engaging with the PQ to improve their learning. Today, we had an Exit Point where the children shared learning that required them to use their Personal Qualities.

UN Sustainable Goal #3 Good Health and Well-Being Through P2’s IPC Learning! The IPC drives the foundation subjects throughout Panaga School and P2 is no exception. Children in P2 explored the aspects of the United Nations Sustainable Goal 3 – Good Health and Wellbeing, through their last IPC Unit ‘Super Humans’. We found out what makes us ‘Super Humans’ and how we can stay healthy and take care of ourselves and those around us. Children visited Panaga Health Centre to get more information about our access to health care and why this is so important in our lives. We also developed our curiosity about health care and the professionals who help us. This was further demonstrated through our classroom learning; children designed their own healthy lunch boxes, created ‘How to Stay Healthy’ books and posters, and understood the importance of their own hygiene by washing their hands. Children were able to identify other ways to be healthy increasing their own wellbeing through the IPC Personal Qualities of Enquiry and Reflection. Through the Exit Point, children shared their learning with the people that make them feel safe and loved. Thank you parents and carers for all that you do to enable our children to be healthy and happy.

P3’s Sensational Senses Trips have helped to bring our learning to life during this first half term. We kicked off our IPC unit with a visit to Fratini’s to warm up the taste buds and allow the children to make their own pizzas. Everyone was very excited for the science and technology learning ahead!
Back at school in Science, we learnt that there is a wide variety of different types of salads that can be assembled from many different ingredients. We looked at photographs to identify some of the different ingredients. We noticed the different presentation and colours used in different salads. We started to make links to Technology as we used our science learning to design a criteria for our salads.
When learning like a scientist, we found out that foods can be sorted into five groups. We now know that a healthy diet is based on a balance of these five groups. We used balance plates to think about which ingredients we might include in our salads and communicated with partners to check that we had the correct quantity from each category.
Panaga School Weekly, Issue Forty, 18th October 2019 We challenged ourselves to taste lots of different ingredients. This meant that we could think about flavours, textures and colours when creating our own salads. After tasting the new ingredients, we made our final criteria for our salads and then wrote the ingredients as a shopping list.
To practise some skills in a real kitchen, we had a trip to Smart Junior Chef Brunei. We learnt how to be hygienic by wearing aprons and chef hats then made sure we washed our hands before doing any preparation. Some of the skills we learnt when making the fruit tarts included making a dough, pressing the dough into pastry cases, piping cream and topping with fruit. We had a lot of fun!
In school, we learnt how to slice, dice, chop, peel and grate in a safe way. After the practice, we were finally ready for the big day. We came to school with all of our ingredients, washed our hands then set up our work stations. We worked safely and carefully to prepare the ingredients and we were really proud of the end results!
