Updates from the Principal’s Desk Dear Panaga School Community, Issue Fifty-Six 20th March 2020
Continuity of Learning The pages of this week’s Panaga School Weekly (PSW) are a testament to the learning focused community that is Panaga. Our teaching team have gone above Panaga School and beyond, exceeding all of the minimum requirements agreed, to produce IFM/4, BSP Company Sdn Bhd, fantastic access to learning through a variety of forums. Congratulations to our students and teachers who have adapted to a new routine while remaining Seria, KB 3534, learning focused in the face of adversity. Thank you to our families who have sent Negara Brunei in photos to celebrate this new way of living and learning. Sharing these images Darussalam helps our community remain connected and focused on our school vision: Together, Improving Learning. I believe that finding joy in life is important. I also believe that adapting and choosing our responses to what is happening around us, assists us to remain with a personal sense of control, even in the most challenging of circumstances. Sometimes, it is equally important to admit to the enormity of the challenge and surrendering to this can be a form of self preservation. While photos in today’s PSW represent focused students, it is acknowledged that for some students and families, this adapting to a new way of learning is just too much right now. We have had travel plans interrupted, access to loved ones removed and our way of life completely disturbed. This needs to be recognised and accepted as a part of our current ‘normal’. Growth mindset is a powerful theory that creates a sense of I can’t do it...YET! Growth mindset acknowledges that struggling is part of learning. If you have found this week all too much, I encourage you to take a leaf out of Dr Carol Dweck’s many books (https:// www.mindsetworks.com/science/) and consciously move from a fixed to a mixed to a growth mindset of this being a temporary position. You can do this, and on bad days, acknowledge the struggle and know that this too will change.

The unprecedented happenings in the world will continue to be monitored by the school. From today, all teachers are on leave for 2 weeks. Currently, Panaga School will return with another week of Continuity of Learning on Monday 6th April. The procedures of this week are set up to continue from Monday 6th April. Ministry and company directives will be monitored, with parents updated accordingly if changes need to be made. Parents, we ask for your continued support and understanding that planning beyond this timeframe in the current climate is unrealistic. Wishing everybody a safe two weeks ahead. Kind regards, Cindy

Stijn wastes no time for home learning up and at ‘em at 6.30am, on a Saturday! “Stijn started his homework straight after coming out of the bed at 6:30 in the morning.
Quite some discipline and resilience! He is not even touching the breakfast… He is enjoying it and picking up the new routine. I though this is a nice learning highlight.”
- Menno

Hanna is CATegorically Internationally Minded! And her poetry is purrfect! This week is Poetry Week. My daughter, Hanna, already prepared her poem last week. It is about Cats. Unfortunately we don't have any pets so Hanna interviewed her friends' cats and my friend's cat. They are in Beijing (my friend's cat), Brisbane (Alani's cat), Panaga (Bea in P5T's cats) and Kuala Lumpur (Austen's cats). She finished her diary and wrote the poem by using these interview writings. Thank you for everything and kind regards, Bella

The recipe is called ‘Chocolate peanut butter oatmeal bars’. I got the idea from the internet professional recipes. It took 2 hours and a half to actually make it. Here are the pictures of the recipe and the bars.” - Eleonora
