Panaga School Updates from the Principal’s Desk Weekly Issue Sixty-Four 5th June 2020 Panaga School IFM/4, BSP Company Sdn Bhd, Seria, KB 3534, Negara Brunei Darussalam (+673) 3375728/3372139 (Teraja/ Melilas), (+673) 3372694 (Mendaram/ Rampayoh) Principal: Cindy Bin Tahal (+673) 3372355/ 8777028
Dear Panaga School Community, It feels as though Panaga School is waking up from a deep winter. Children returning to school feels as fitting as the return of leaves to trees in the spring. Photos below capture our Melilas students full of smiles at this week's return. We are currently in Phase 1 of the school’s reopening, with P7 due to return from Monday 8th June. Phase 2 is set to take place from Monday 15th June, with both hope and anticipation that this will be the whole school. Pre-Nursery to P6 families, we are busy considering how to meet Ministry guidelines, while ensuring quality learning will take place with the potential of reopening to you, as mentioned, hopefully on 15th June. In the event that all classes return to school, for our families who are unable to return, we will communicate accordingly, to consider what will remain available for remote learning access. I will be meeting with a representative of the Ministry of Education on Monday next week, along with the school principals of JIS and ISB, to discuss Ministry guidance in line with Phase 2 of the school’s reopening. As soon as information is available, the parent community will be updated on developments.
Observations and conversations with our Melilas students in relation to cindybintahal@panagaschool.com their return to school this week highlight the social and emotional considerations for our students. I was surprised by how quiet the children Head Teacher: were when they initially came back to school. Later in conversations, I was Mark Walters informed that the majority of students had some reservations and weren't markwalters@panagaschool.net sure what to expect at school's return. All students have informed me that (+673) 3373972/ school feels more "normal" than they expected with adapted measures. 8988224 Social distancing at playtimes can be a challenge, however, students have adopted an "arms-length" reference to assist them to self-manage this Panaga School Senior process. My favourite quote from a student this week has been, "Remote learning was okay, but I really rely on conversations with my friends to check my understanding and make sure that I really get the learning that is going on."
Wishing everybody a good weekend. Kind regards, Cindy

Panaga's Got Talent is back and it is going to be even bigger than before. This year, we are inviting the whole school community to take part and have some fun! Every child, staff member and parent is eligible to take part. We have split the competition into categories to allow for fair judging. These will be: Early Years (PN-P1), Rampayoh (P2-P3), Teraja (P4-5), Teraja (P6-7), Melilas (M1-M2), Staff, Parents and Families. Group entries are welcome, as long as all participants are from the same category. Two entries from each category will be chosen by a panel of judges and entered into the Grand Final. A panel of specialist judges will then choose an overall child and adult winner. We have created google folders for entries to be dropped into and videos will then be reviewed by the P1 Teaching team and added to the PGT Padlet for all to view. Hanna is a Nat Geo Kids published author! Hanna (P3R) shared her 'wildlife watch' in National Geographic Kids (Australia). She was so proud of it and it encourages her to continue working hard. Also, she hopes it can encourage more kids in Panaga to share their own 'wildlife watch'. - Bella

Jayden loves the great outdoors and his sister There have been great home learning activities for Jayden (P1 Turtles) to show his patience and resilience in this tough time. He was able to help Daddy and Mummy build a tent outside the home and enjoyed a “virtual” camping evening with the whole family. He showed his courage and bravery when learning how to ride his bicycle. His face was full of smiles when he broke his record in an Xbox game and when he built his favourite hotel with Mega Blocks. He also enjoyed outdoor activities and learned the harmony between human beings and the nature – when on a boat tour on Brunei River and when watching a waterfall inside Tasek Lama Recreational Park. He also takes care of his sister by building a sandcastle with her on the beach and swimming in the mini swimming pool. - Guoping
