Dear Panaga School Community, It is wonderful to have our school buildings full of children once again, as we have returned to face to face learning for Term 3. We continue to live in a rapidly evolving environment, in response to changes to COVID-19 directives. Parent support and understanding is valued with the ongoing adaptations that are required, often in short timelines, to manage school operations in line with Ministry requirements. Such frequent adaptations to school operations can create challenges for communication. We thank our school community, particularly our Parent Representatives, for working together to ensure communication is clear in support of our children's learning and safety. In this week's edition of Panaga School Biweekly, you will see fantastic examples of learning from our Early Years to our Middle Years, from both face to face and remote learning situations. The return to school seems to have been met with excitement from students and teachers alike. All of our classrooms are alive with inquisitive minds and learning conversations that we have missed in our remote settings. We have had 83 new students join Panaga School since August 2021. For many, they had already started to make social connections while learning online. The return to face to face learning has helped our new joiners deepen connections. It is wonderful for these students and families to get to know all that Panaga offers, now that school is back open. We extend a warm welcome to you all as you get to know the 'in person' version of Panaga's school community. As you are aware, Ramadan commenced during our end of Term 2 break. We extend best wishes to our Muslim community and hope that you experience every blessing this Ramadan. Hari Raya is drawing nearer, with 3 days of public holidays due to begin on either 2nd or 3rd May, depending on whether the moon is sighted on Sunday evening, 1st May. The beginning of Ramadan will be announced via our Parent Representative Whatsapp system. We wish everybody a wonderful and safe weekend and trust that you will enjoy taking a look through the learning and events celebrated herein. Please pay attention to notices about admissions for Pre-Nursery and Nursery for 2022/2023 and our student photo submissions that we require from parents to make this year's school yearbook a reality.

Thank you Kristy for your dedication to Panaga School
(All photos taken prior to COVID-19)
Kristy McGrath has made many significant contributions to our school community since arriving with her family in 2018. During this time, Kristy has held the roles of Parent Representative on the School Advisory Board, Parent Teacher Association (PTA) President and PTA Treasurer. Kristy has been a dynamic, energetic and collaborative team member, running many events and fundraising initiatives to benefit the school. Kristy has been a strong, objective supporter of the views of all school stakeholders, through her official roles and capacities.
Farewell and thank you, Kristy, you have made such a positive difference to the Panaga School Community. We wish you and your beautiful family the very best for the next chapter in your lives. - Cindy Bin Tahal, Principal

Scenes from today’s World Book Day celebrations! Huge thanks to all parents, students and staff for dressing up today as your favourite book characters. World Book Day (WBD) has been the first opportunity we have had to join together ‘in person’ to celebrate since returning to face to face learning last week. We previously celebrated WBD as a part of our online learning in March, but who can beat a proper dress up day in real life? We had fun on our vocabulary parade and other small assemblies where children also ‘wore’ a word to describe their character. Who was your favourite? Also, could you guess the books so creatively displayed on classroom doors? Thanks to the Senior Leadership Team, other organisers and everyone involved for bringing back to school such an abundance of colour and excitement! - Damian Brady

P5 Active Planet Exit Point P5 finished their online learning explosively through their Active Planet Exit Point. The children showcased their amazing volcano models, did explosive experiments and wrote diary entries linked to the volcanic eruption at Pompeii. It was a wonderful opportunity to share all of the knowledge and skills the children had acquired and developed during the unit. Amazing job P5!

The structure and function of body systems: Skeleton, muscles and joints
M1 home learning dissection -Melilas Science team
“At first, I was a bit hesitant and reluctant to do it because it was raw chicken and I’ve never dissected it before. However, after searching for all of the muscles, etc., it actually got to be a bit fun and interesting!” - ANIKA M1P

“It was quite fascinating to see where all the different things were in the chicken wing or leg. Some of us even cut through the bone and looked at what was like inside the bone. We could also bend and stretch the chicken leg to see how it works. It was very interesting!” - CAROLINE M1P

MARKUS (M1M) did an excellent job in his chicken dissection. He managed to find a muscle that was attached to a bone by a tendon and identified the bone marrow.
VIDISHA (M1P) found a pair of antagonistic muscles that work together to allow the chicken wing to move. Here are the snapshots of Vidisha pulling the muscles.

HEATH (M1M) did so well in reflecting his learning on skeleton, muscles and joints, applying his knowledge on the chicken wing. He also was able to identify the fat and the tendons during his dissection.

LILA (M1M) said she really enjoyed doing the chicken dissection. In the
photos, you can see how focused and careful she was. For safety, she used scissors instead of knife and had adult supervision. Well done Lila on doing the practical activity safely!
