This is our final edition of Panaga School Biweekly for the 2021/2022 academic year. With the end of a school year comes anticipated change. Change is a guaranteed part of life, moreso when you live an expatriate life. I would like to spend a moment to thank and wish well 10 members of our teaching team who are set to move on to new life experiences. Damian Brady Mr Damian is a man who is often behind the camera, ensuring high quality editorials to celebrate our community and learning, using his shared journalistic expertise. Mr Damian arrived at Panaga School 16 years ago and has taught all classes and most recently, Digital Education. Throughout this time, he has maintained the role of Chief Editor of Panaga School’s publications, in addition to his teaching commitments. His skills have even been sought by Shell Education Services to produce high quality international journals and articles. Mr Damian is a teacher with a ‘can do’ attitude, who is always first to lend a hand or join students in any class in support of quality teaching and learning. Thank you, Mr Damian, you leave a legacy of high quality materials that capture learning celebrations and you have positively impacted so many children’s lives through engaging and relevant learning experiences. Perminder Sanghera After 16 years at Panaga School, Miss Perminder bids us farewell for new adventures. Miss Perminder is an incredibly organised, up to date educator. She moved from Rampayoh to Teraja as classroom teacher, then became a middle leader, before being appointed Deputy Principal. Miss Perminder has positively impacted the lives of children and staff who have had the opportunity to learn under her. She has contributed to countless successful football tournaments, school discos, International Days and residentials. Miss Perminder is a pillar of strength, integrity and a really hard worker. We will miss you dearly. Laura Wilson Miss Laura has taught in both Teraja and Rampayoh during her 11 years at Panaga School. She has also held leadership roles of Mathematics Lead Teacher and Year Group Leader. Miss Laura has co-led several staff team building events and beach cleans. She has delivered several training sessions to parents and teachers, particularly focusing on Mathematics teaching and learning. Miss Laura has also been a part of a team who created the most engaging field trips involving behind the scenes visits to the airport, rock climbing and Jerudong Park for P3 (pre COVID-19) to hook children into their learning. Thank you for your contributions, Miss Laura.

Neil Lynch Mr Neil can be relied upon to bring a joyful atmosphere to any social or learning situation. Melilas Graduates have become accustomed to Mr Neil’s creative and entertaining leaving video messages, where he has taken the chance to remind students not to take themselves too seriously and always find time to laugh. Mr Neil has taught Digital Education right across the whole school. His lessons have helped students expand their learning through various digital platforms. After 11 years at Panaga School, it is time for Mr Neil and his family to move on. Thank you, Mr Neil.

Emma Fulton Miss Emma will complete her full time teaching position at Panaga School at the end of this academic year, her ninth, however, she isn’t moving far. I would like to take this opportunity to acknowledge Miss Emma’s dedication to teaching and learning. She is a respected teacher who has impacted many children and families positively through her caring nature and outstanding teaching abilities. Miss Emma has also periodically assisted Panaga School in relief leadership roles. We wish Miss Emma and her family the very best as they navigate changes ahead, however, it is with delight that we aren't saying an actual farewell as they will remain a part of our Panaga School Community. Jo Marshall Miss Jo has spent the past 8 years teaching and leading learning in P4. She has supported school sports at Brunei Junior Sports League as a coach and has contributed significantly to the development of women’s rugby in Brunei. Miss Jo has found opportunities to take learning outside of the classroom, with students provided with experiences that help them make the world a better place. One of these experiences was at the old people’s home in Seria, where Miss Jo gave significantly of her own time and found ways for residents and her students to add value to one another’s lives. Thank you, Miss Jo. Rachel Marsden Miss Rachel will be bidding “au revoir” to Panaga School after 8 years of service. Miss Rachel began and will finish her time as a valued member of our Additional Needs Team. She has taught English as an Additional Language and P2 as a class teacher and Year Group Leader. Miss Rachel has supported Panaga School through her past roles of Community Leader for Learning and Teacher Representative on the Panaga School Advisory Board. Miss Rachel has been instrumental in leading memorable and educationally exciting Science Days through her active membership for many years on the Parent Teacher Association. Thank you for your contributions, Miss Rachel. Josie Kidd Miss Josie is a very creative and talented Art and Design Technology teacher who we have been fortunate to have as a member of our Middle Years teaching team for 5 years. Miss Josie is an expert at teaching relevant knowledge and skills to students to allow them to then demonstrate their understanding by creating the most unique and individualised learning outcomes. As well as being a specialist teacher, Miss Josie agreed to help the development of Middle Years by assuming leadership for an academic year, to provide significant teacher, parent, student, company and education consultant engagements to grow this area and with it, the learning opportunities for our students. Through Miss Josie’s leadership, sustainability projects, community markets and Borneo rehabilitation projects were just some of the outcomes for student learning, with this being promoted through local and international education journal articles. Thank you for your contributions, Miss Josie.

Paul Creaton Mr Paul returned to Panaga School for his second posting here on a casual basis, teaching right across all school sites, before helping to grow our Melilas Middle Years expansion in a full time capacity in 2018. She has also been identified and appreciated by our Parent Teacher Association for her contributions including leading dancing and singing at our last Christmas in the Park community event. Thank you, Miss Ali, for your service to Panaga School, where you have been such a great collaborator and initiator of exciting opportunities to bring learning to life for our students. Panaga School is filled with high quality, well experienced, learning focused teachers. All members of our team who are departing Panaga School this year will be missed and on behalf of our school community, I would like to thank them for their contributions and wish them well in their future endeavours. I would also like to take this opportunity to thank all members of our school community for coming together to create a successful year of learning for our students. Vanishing Rainforests Exit Point (P5) P5 brought their studies on the rainforests to an end last

week with a rainforest café. Prior to the event, the children had created rainforest-inspired snacks and

smoothies for their parents to enjoy.

Those who attended the event were able to see a collection of rainforest artwork from the unit including, camouflage artwork (using pastels), batiks and packaging inspired by their smoothie designs.

Perhaps the biggest highlight however was a wooden model

of Borneo which highlighted the reasons for deforestation in the world’s rainforests. The children created this with the assistance of the amazing Warren Jones over a number of

weeks. In pairs, they each decorated a forest block and a deforestation block. They then researched and placed information on the side of the blocks to inform others about the reasons why the world’s rainforests are being cut down.
