M2 Graduation Ceremony Last week, 27 of our M2 students attended their graduation ceremony at the Lotus Lounge in Panaga Club, with photos of our graduates displayed on this week’s Panaga School Weekly front cover. See Mr Rob’s Melilas editorial for more photos and information. We wish our M2 students the very best as they attend their final week of learning at Panaga School, before setting off in various directions to continue their learning journeys. Parent Information Sessions Thank you to all of the parents who attended this week’s 2021/2022 Parent Information Sessions. Approximately 100 parents attended these sessions, providing valuable home to school connections, as we prepare for the transition of school years. New teacher introductions and presentations from information sessions will be sent out to all parents by early next week. If you wish to discuss any information further from either of the parent information sessions attended, or information sent in relation to these sessions, please contact a member of our school leadership team. 2021/2022 School Calendar Dates Our previously published 2021/2022 school calendar will be updated to include four weeks break from 10th December. Consultation took place with teachers, the school advisory board and parents, via information sessions and email correspondence. This extension of time to the school break in December/January aims to support travel if required. The amount of school days in the calendar for students remains unchanged. The updated 2021/2022 Panaga School Calendar will be emailed to parents with Parent Information Session slides next week. The calendar on our school website will also be updated before the end of next week.
Enjoy looking through this week’s Panaga School Weekly that demonstrates our unwavering and diverse learning focus, as we draw towards our last week of this academic year.

Passport to the world!
Although we might not be able to physically travel to other countries at the moment, our imaginations can take us anywhere… This year the Panaga Club library team has put together a reading challenge that will let you travel to all seven continents of the world. The challenge will start the first week of the Panaga School holidays (12/07/21) and will last for seven weeks finishing the last week of August (29/08/21). Every Monday we will announce the continent for you to explore that week. This will be announced on the library’s Facebook page, as well as in the library itself: there will be a world map display that will show you the continent to look for. Once you know where you are travelling to, you need to find a book relating to any country in that continent. This could be a reference book, such as a recipe book, arts & crafts manual, or a picture book of animals from that area; or it could be a fiction book, with a story from that continent or written by an author from that area. Here is an example: if the continent is Europe, you could choose the UK as your country, and your book could be Paddington Bear, or Horrible History: Terrible Tudors, or a picture book on World War 2, or a book by David Walliams etc. You can do 1-2 books a week. When you have chosen your book, fill in the passport page stating what continent you went to, what the book title was and what you found out. When you return the book back to the library bring your passport with you and you can collect a passport stamp from the desk staff to put in your passport. Once you have visited all seven continents you will get a certificate at the end of the challenge and a small prize. If you have any questions, you can ask a member of the library team. Safe travels and enjoy your journey!

A Visit From Real Life Heroes
Pre-Nursery’s To the Rescue IEYC unit took a different turn this week when we met real life heroes. BSP’s firefighters visited and talked about their work and the equipment they need. The children were then invited to step inside the fire engine and learn about the equipment on board.

Weaving was a skill that we got better with as time went on, we made bracelets and they were really lovely. Our carbon footprint can be reduced by buying local produce and supporting local business.
‘Uncle Samad taught me how to make a bracelet using string.’ - Ollie ‘Well, it was so cool to make these bracelets without destroying the environment.’ - Connor
We learned about local plants. One tree, called the Bambangan Tree, will give you a salad, a vegetable and dessert. We also learned the names of the plants and herbs and did some planting too.

Dear Melilas Community, This week has been a particularly exciting week in Melilas, especially for our M2 students. M2 Graduation Ceremony We were very honoured and pleased to welcome our MD, Agnete Johnsgaard-Lewis, to open our M2 graduation ceremony for our departing M2 students, as well as present their graduation certificates. I would like to thank Agnete for attending and also our wonderful M2 parents for supporting the event so positively. This is particularly true for all those parents who worked so hard to source hoodies, to get our cake, book the scenic venue and help decorate the space. I would also extend thanks to our M2 Form Tutors, Miss Josie and Miss Peta, who demonstrated through their speeches how well our staff know and care for our Middle Years students. I’m sure our M2 appreciate this. Finally, a wider thanks to all of our teaching and learning staff here at Panaga School who have contributed to their learning journey, be it in our Melilas Middle Years or earlier in their time here in Panaga. The event highlighted the amazing students that we have in M2 and how they have developed into unique and extraordinary young adults during their time here at Panaga School. Their speeches, woven into an entirely self-written narrative, were creative and individual. As Melilas staff, and on behalf of Panaga School as a whole, we wish you all the best in your future journey of learning and life.

M2 Physical Theatre Drama Performance Another celebration of Middle Years learning was the M2 Physical Theatre performances this week. Led by the talented Miss Peta, our M2 students demonstrated a sequence of captivating, powerful and emotive physical theatre pieces inspired on themes from their English literature studies on dystopian fiction and the ‘Hunger Games’. These themes and ideas were then developed into an incredibly mature and focused series of performance sets, incorporating physical drama techniques designed to impact and influence the audience using body, space and shape. As a Melilas team, we couldn’t have been prouder of our students this week!
