Thursday 8th July was an exciting morning at Panaga School. We celebrated our knowledge, skills and understanding and challenged ourselves to learn something new. We also consolidated our learning about how we learn.

P1 EXIT POINT: ONCE UPON A TIME
With sounds of laughter and the shuffling of feet, anyone peeking through a P1 window would have been enthralled at how the children shared their learning with their parents. Whilst it was a game show at one end, it was a game of Charades at the other!
Together with the parents, they competed for bragging rights on who knew their traditional tales better. They also got a chance to show off some acting skills in the guessing game of Charades and oh my…did the parents give them a run for their money! Things came to a relaxing end as they sat around tables and showed off their books filled with stories and other bits of garnered information. What a fun way to end P1! - P1 Team

P4 Chocolate Bake Sale
We set up shop outside the P4 classrooms and sold the chocolate crispy cakes and chocolate treats we had made at home to raise money for two rainforest charities in Borneo. The money will be joined with money raised by P5 earlier in the year.
Total Raised: $572.60!!
We used our KNOWLEDGE and SKILLS of addition and subtraction to calculate total costs and give the correct change.

P5’s learning flows on our Active Planet
P5 have just completed their IPC unit, ‘Active Planet’, where they learned about earthquakes and volcanoes. For the Exit Point, children used all of their Personal Qualities to make a model to display their learning throughout the unit. Cooperation, enquiry, good communication skills and adaptability were especially evident.
The children displayed their knowledge of different types of volcanoes, Earth’s layers and different parts of a volcano. Some children chose a particular volcano to research and showed their knowledge about volcanoes such as Mount Vesuvius.
They developed their research skills as well as Design Technology and Art skills to make their models.
The children mapped the location of some of the world’s major volcanoes and used this to develop an understanding of ‘The Ring of Fire’. They also understand that the movement of tectonic plates cause earthquakes and the formation of volcanoes, mountains and even islands. - P5 Team

International Learning 3.05. TBAT explain how the lives of people in one country or group are affected by the activities of other countries or groups. We have been learning about the impact of
climate change and how good and not so good choices can affect the environment. We have also been thinking about how we can all help each other to improve our
world. Miss Maura & Miss Katrina

Geography Learning about clouds: We were very privileged to have a guest meteorologist visit us and explain to us all about the clouds that we saw in the sky. This
was
also
a
wonderful
opportunity for us to ask all our weather-related questions.
To be successful in this learning, we needed to: •
identify geographical patterns and use our knowledge and understanding to explain them.
•
use geographical vocabulary to describe weather.
•
know the names of the different types of clouds.
•
know
the different types of weather associated with the
different clouds. •
begin to develop an understanding of how the different types of clouds that I see in the sky can help me predict the weather. Miss Maura & Miss Katrina

Dear Melilas Community, Thank you all for your support in making this a hugely successful academic year for Melilas. For those of you who are staying, we look forward to welcoming you back after the summer break and having our best year yet. For those of you leaving us, we wish you luck and success and hope that you take a little part of Melilas and Panaga School with you wherever you go. Please let us know how you are doing when you have the opportunity. It seems only fitting that we end our year celebrating our positive attitudes and behaviours in Melilas with our ‘Reward Day’ Bowling. It’s wonderful to see the whole of Middle Years applauding each other, enjoying each other’s company and having a wonderful time. Have a great summer, Rob
