I must say that the images on the front cover of this issue are incredibly dramatic, presenting young learners engaged in their International Early Years Curriculum (IEYC) learning content. Be sure to point your child/ren in the direction of advertised Digital Education, Art and Mathematics challenge opportunities inside. Regards, Cindy

Panaga School and the Panaga Club will be running our annual Panaga Football Tournament on Sunday 17th February 2019. This is a great sporting event, with an opportunity for our students to compete and have fun with students from other schools. Please complete THIS FORM to register your child if they are interested in participating in the tournament. If you do not wish for your child to participate, it is not necessary for you to submit the form. This event relies upon the support of volunteers from within our community. Volunteers play an integral part on the day by taking on roles which help make the event happen. Please support this event by filling in the last section on this form if you are able to referee. Unfortunately, without enough referees we will not be able to go ahead with the tournament. Alternatively, you may like to be a coach. If you wish for your child to participate in the tournament, and if you can assist too, please complete and submit this form by Monday 21st January.

Mendaram Animal Rescuers: Entry Point Mendaram children got off to a very exciting start to the term and our new IEYC Learning

Unit:

Animal

Rescuers.

The

children had to be real animal rescuers and help save many trapped, lost, stuck and sick animals. The phone calls came in to the rescue centre and the children were all very

quick to respond. They learned some vital first aid skills from our very own rescue paramedic ‘Mr Fraser’ and the children were soon seen reassuring their patients and taking good care of them. These real scenarios helped to capture the children’s curiosity and we have seen the children already taking this learning further by initiating their own situations, retelling the scenarios through different mediums and acting out the role of the vet in the animal rescue centre. The week ended with a great Animal Dress Up Day where all of the children (and staff) came into school dressed as their favourite animals. A super start to our animal learning journey which really raised awareness of animals and their needs.

We look forward to seeing the unit develop, and if you feel you can help support the children’s learning in any way, please let us know.

We want you to create a piece of art from litter or recycling – and tell us what you used and why! The learning outcome: Children will use reclaimed materials such as bottles, cans and fabric to create works of art. Through this “upcycling” adventure, the children will learn about conservation and protecting our environment while also expanding their creativity. You might want to carry out some research and look at artists like: - David Kemp - Robert Bradford - Augusto Esquivel You need to: Create artwork using clean litter – it can be flat or a sculpture in 3D. Make sure it is self-contained and safe to be left standing up- we will be displaying all entries on 22nd March and all winning pieces will be displayed at various locations throughout the Panaga Community. Please include the following on all artwork: name; age/class; explain what you used and why (e.g. a sculpture built using 20 yogurt pots – A Week of Yogurt – the number of plastic pots one family get through in a week) Closing Date: 15th March Winners Announced: 22nd March Prizes: For 1st, 2nd and 3rd places on Teraja and Rampayoh If you have any questions, please speak to Marie McCready (Parent) or Miss Louise and Miss Claire (Mendaram Leaders for Learning).

Good Luck!

The children loved exploring the ice, the slippery slide, the muddy puddles, the carwash and spent a lot of time throwing cold water at the teachers.

A great solution from Saksham in 6MM to last term’s final puzzle about the number of squares on a chessboard. By totaling the first 8 square numbers, he correctly found that the number of squares on a chessboard is 204!

A lovely counting problem this week. It seems to be straightforward, but how can you make sure that you have counted them all?!

As usual, write your solution on a piece of paper and post it into the little box on the way into Teraja before next Thursday.
