Updates from the Head Teacher’s Desk Once again, Panaga School is in full flow. After the long weekend, the children have all returned full of energy and excitement to develop new knowledge, skills and understanding. Last week ended with the wonderful assembly from our Chinese Community to celebrate Chinese New Year. I would like to join Miss Cindy in thanking them for all of the work and effort they put in to preparing their assembly for us. The children were all enthralled by the various dances and the two Lions were magnificent. As I have mentioned in the past, Panaga School never stands still and this short week has been a prime example of this with a number of year groups attending trips across the country and also within our community. P7 had a very enjoyable excursion to the Malay Technology Museum and P1 had an enjoyable morning flying their kites on Panaga Beach. This once again illustrates how much time and thought our teachers put in to preparing and planning exciting opportunities for all of our children. One of the most enjoyable parts of my role is being able to visit so many classrooms across the school. Speaking to the children about their learning and observing them come alive as new ideas spark within their minds is wonderful to see. This year, I am enjoying the opportunity to read with the P2 children during their Guided Reading sessions. It has been incredible to see the progress these children have made and will continue to make in the coming months. The importance of reading is vital to all of us, and as I have mentioned before, is often something we take for granted. The ability to pick up and read a book or read through an email is an essential part of our lives. I continue to encourage you to take the time to read with your children as often as possible. Share a story with them, let them share a story with you and enjoy the pleasure of reading together. - Mr Mark

Pre-Nursery Celebrates Chinese New Year

新年快乐 The children celebrated bringing in the Year of the Rat with great activities organised by Chinese parents and other volunteers on Friday 24th January. They listened to the story of how the festival is celebrated, made lanterns, tried their hands at dumpling making (out of playdough), explored some Chinese-style crafts and challenged themselves to the Chopstick pick up game! We learnt about the 12 animals of the Chinese zodiac and the story of the race that decided the order of the zodiac years. Children acted out the animal race. A Dragon and Lion came to visit and we watched as they passed through on their way to assembly. Please click here for more photos of the day.

Integrity in P5

Last week, our unit of work focused upon integrity and what attributes a good leader must possess. The children produced a wide range of ideas about how they perceive leadership. Interestingly, the key element in all of their feedback was our school’s Personal Quality of Integrity. Here are a couple of their answers and the different ways they presented their ideas.
