International Day Tremendous thanks to all of our volunteers who provided us with the opportunity to gain knowledge about a variety of countries and cultures, through the generous sharing that took place at this week’s International Day. The morning assembly showcased a fantastic variety of performances from around the world! Our Australian whip crackers, yoga participants, Irish dancers, Malaysian singers, Chinese dancers, Nigerian dancers, Kiwi poi dancers, Egyptian dancers, Indian Bollywood dancers and Venezuelan dancers were a fitting start to the day. Thank you to all of our performers and their supporters. We were incredibly proud of the abundance of skills that represented so many cultures and countries. International Day supports the development of our international mindedness, as together we celebrate sameness and difference within our diverse international community of learners. Thank you to all who helped bring the day together and to all who attended. For great photos of International Day, and if you would like to contribute some more, please click here.
Ramadhan Updates Next week, Ramadhan is due to begin on either Tuesday or Wednesday, depending on Monday evening’s moon sighting. Miss Cyla, from our Senior Leadership Team, will inform the school community of the start date for Ramadhan on Monday evening via WhatsApp messages. For those families who are about to experience their first Ramadhan at Panaga School, you can expect some adaptations to the way that we operate. Deputy Principals from each school site have provided families with detailed information about adjustments to school operations, in support of the Holy Month of Ramadhan. If your child will be fasting, please make sure you have discussed their needs with their class teacher/Deputy Principal. If you need to discuss any information further, please see a member of our Senior Leadership Team. We would like to take this opportunity to wish all Muslim members of the school community a blessed month of Ramadhan ahead.

On Friday 23 April, Mendaram and Rampayoh students are invited to come to school dressed in a costume to participate in our Vocabulary Parade. What is a Vocabulary Parade?
A Vocabulary Parade is a celebration of the written word, intended to expose children to a wider range of words in an exciting way. It should allow parents flexibility to be imaginative with costumes that they may already have at home. Usually, it involves displaying a word related to a character as a part of the costume or dressing up as a favourite challenging word, related to a specific topic, e.g., dressing as a Dinosaur and displaying the word, ‘Predator’. Children should have their chosen word displayed on them in some way as a part of their costume.
Can I dress as a favourite character if I want to?
Yes! We would love to see children dressed as their favourite character (book related or not) if they wish. All we ask is that you choose a word to describe that character, or related to them, and display it somewhere on the costume. Some ideas can be found below: • Harry Potter displaying the word, ‘Curious’. • Little Red Riding Hood displaying the word, ‘Brave’. • Gruffalo displaying the word, ‘Terrible’.
Can I dress as a word that is not related to a book if I want to?
Yes! There is absolute flexibility in the costume your child chooses to wear. As the day and parade is focused on ‘Wonderful Words’, again, all we ask is that your child displays an interesting word on their costume.
How should I display the word on the costume?
This could be stuck to the costume in some way, as a banner that they hold, written on a headband or a distinguished part of the costume. The choice is theirs and yours.
Do I need to add a definition under the word?
You are more than welcome to do this if you wish but there is absolutely no requirement to do so.
So let’s have fun celebrating ‘Wonderful Words’! nowledge,

To encourage a love of reading, Rampayoh will see ‘Starbooks Café’ opening every Wednesday and Thursday lunchtime, offering an opportunity for P2-P3 children to be part of a book club.
To help us resource the café, we would like children to donate preloved books. If every child could bring in one book for our café this would be a great start. Going forward, we will operate the café on a bring and borrow basis. If a child brings a book for the café, they then can choose a different book from our cafe library to take home. We are excited about launching this initiative and ask that all donations are dropped at the entrance foyer in the designated box. Thank you in advance for your support.

Mission To Mars P7 Entry Point This week, the P7 children have taken part in an Entry Point featuring some astronaut training exercises. All children were put into teams and then spent two hours being assessed. The Entry Point was based around the real NASA application process and involved the children completing a variety of mental and physical challenges.
P7 children were asked to: land a helicopter using a flight simulator, fly and land a mini drone, complete a physical training exercise, complete a cipher challenge, complete an electronics challenge involving fine motor skills and complete a variety of team activities. Many of the students were able to reflect on the importance of using their Personal Qualities in the exercises.

We also noted that many of us do not possess all of the qualities to become an astronaut... yet... A super fun morning and P7 are very appreciative of the additional staff members who supported us in making this a unique learning experience where our current skill sets were challenged in all sorts of ways. - P7 Team
