PHAROAHE MONCH KILLER SHOW IN LONDON
HIP HOP FAN TIBBS WENT TO A KILLER SHOW IN CAMDEN
when I’m with other Hip Hop heads. Pharaohe Monch to me is definitely in the top ten lyricists of all time. Even when he started out with Organized Konfusion. His rapping technique is very complex it’s like he writes movies to his tracks. So I was gassed all day to see him perform. I love the atmosphere of the Jazz Cafe, it’s small and intimate.
‘’definitely in my top ten shows, which believe me when I say I’ve been to a lot’’ As soon as he hit the stage the crowd went crazy. At first it was just him and his DJ then after a few tracks the band came on, they were
I recently attended a gig at Camden’s Jazz Cafe by lyrically acclaimed underground legend Pharoahe Monch. As me and my dawg Jordan got to the venue you could see from the outside it was packed. As normal you got a man hounding you with mixtapes and flyers. I swear it’s the same brothers outside in the cold hustling. Lucky for me I got a link inside the venue who puts me on the guest list plus one, so I always bring Jordan because he respects Hip hop like I do. This dude has got the flyest wardrobe I’ve seen. I always sit upstairs to the left of the stage so I can hear the vocals clearly. I was born deaf in my left ear, but I’ve got a good ear for Hip Hop. As always my link hooks us up with double brandy’s and coke. I like to get wavy so I always blaze a ‘’When ’Simon Says’ zoot to get into my came on the crowd zone. went crazy. The one
thing I love about Hip Hop crowds is the diversity of them’’
I could see In the front section a crowd of girls, who jumped on stage and sang the lyrics, I bet they were groupies. The warm up DJ mixed and scratched a variety of old school New York boom bap. The night was sold out and all you could feel was good vibes. I’m in my element
all from London. They were amazing too playing most the songs with live instruments. When ’Simon Says’ came on the crowd went crazy. The one thing I love about Hip Hop crowds is the diversity of them. Loads of different races and cultures respecting the music. I’ll give him ten out of ten for the setlist, banger after banger. Me and my dawg really enjoyed ourselves It was my first time seeing him perform live and boy, he did not disappoint. He started off with his old school classics from his Rawkus days then he proceeded to go through his most recent album ‘PTSD’, which stands for - Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. I’ve been a fan of Pharaoahe for a long time and highly recommend him, if you to listen to the lyrics and not just the beat. I thoroughly enjoyed the show. I knew he wouldn’t let me down, definitely in my top ten shows, which believe me when I say, as I’ve been to a lot. I put this guy up there with the best like Nas, Talib Kweli and R.A. Rugged Man. I was satisfied with the night and privileged I got to witness it.
LIVING WITH
BDD
Body Dysmorphia is a anxiety disorder that makes a person have a distorted view on how they look and spend a lot of time worrying about their appearance. Recently I have noticed the sudden normality of people, particularly women doing rather extreme things for the sake of beauty. Surely we all have confidence issues at times, but imagine feeling like that every second of every day and not being able to think of anything else? I do believe social media is to blame for all of this. As we compare ourselves to images that aren’t even real. Women have cosmetic surgery and are airbrushed. People loving cosmetic surgery going as far as getting ribs taken out for smaller waists, bum implants and lip injections. Not mentioning the horror stories you hear of the things that go wrong. Speaking to people I have noticed that a lot of them suffer from BDD. I met up with a friend who is also a member Daniella that kindly agreed to have a little chat to help me get to understand BDD a little better.
BODY DYSMORPHIC DISORDER
What’s it like for you? It’s not a joke, it isn’t easy constantly thinking about how I look throughout the day. I have certain rituals I call them, ways of coping. I can’t stop thinking about having surgery, having my lips filled I’m obsessed with it.
I was even imagining being injected with a needle into my lips, while my son was talking to me about his day at school. I just can’t concentrate on anything else, it sounds like I’m vein, but just like people that obsess with how attractive they already are, I obsess about how I can improve. It’s not so much about what people think, I don’t care what people think of me, it’s more about how I feel and I just don’t feel as sexy as I want to. When you say rituals what do you mean? Keep going over things in my mind like beauty treatments, in an obsessive way to try and make me feel better but I don’t. I have different mirrors, all different sizes for different things to focus on certain things. Even my hair I obsess over and constantly buy hair dye every two weeks to change the colour of my hair. Cutting my nails and the
‘’Tattoos make m e feel good! They are very po sitive for me, as they are a ch ance to have some self expre ssion’’ way I’m always pushing away my cuticles, sometimes I do it until I hurt myself. I guess to remove something that I see as imperfection. I just keep trying to find ways to make me feel better, almost like I’m under construction. How do you decide what it is about yourself you want to change? I go through phases where I go from hating one thing to the next so it will start with my nose for about a month, then my lips, then my teeth and then I seem to go in full circle like that. What do you compare yourself to? I’d be lying to say that all the crap we see everyday in the media isn’t something I compare myself to because I do, but yet sometimes it hits me how fake and boring everyone looks, I feel like the media lectures me about how I should look. Does getting tattoos help change the way you feel about yourself? Yes, they do tattoos make me feel good! They
are very positive for me, as they are a chance to have some self expression, to tell my story it’s like being able to mould myself. If I don’t have them sometimes I can’t function properly. I love getting tattoos and can’t wait to get more. So getting ink is vital for you, almost another ritual? It really does seem that way to me, I’m always trying to find quick fixes and tattoos defiantly help with that as they are something I can add to change myself and keep adding to. I always get really excited about getting a tattoo and deciding what I’m going to get done and where I’m going to put it. Any advice for people suffering from BDD? Please think, would you really be happy if you changed something about yourself or would you still find something else wrong with you. I know it’s really hard when you have BDD, but try to hang on to some kind of reality and think about what’s important beyond your image. Emerge yourself into something you love and just adore, get creative, try and smile and slowly let go because people don’t see you, how you see yourself. Embrace life because we only get one, as the saying goes life isn’t a rehearsal. Do not give into you’re demons we are all beautiful in our own special way.

OUTLOOK FESTIVAL
LAUNCH PARTY - LONDON Myself and the team made our way down to the Coronet, Elephant and Castle for what we knew was going to be an amazing night. The Outlook festival launch party London, was no doubt an insane night, with so many names to mention Wiley, The Four Owls, The Orginators including P Money, Big Narstie, Footsie, Logan Sama, Flowdan and Manga Just to name a few, sick! The crowds atmosphere was unreal with well over two thousand guests, the vibe was just right. It was
almost like being at a festival but indoors! With a full line up of Grime, Dubbstep and a twist of Hip Hop it was sure to be the perfect night. There was a whopping six rooms to choose from the options were endless. The stage was looking great with full sound system set up and lights on queue. My favourite acts of the night had to be The Four Owls who blessed the stage with such grace, truly talented individuals who are so humble.
Then we come to Wiley who absolutely smashed it. It goes without saying that Wiley is a true master at this by now and that he knows how to put on a show. The energy and stage presence he had was out of this world, as well as his interaction with the audience, he is definitely worth seeing live who were die hard fans, singing along word

SHOOT
MEET THE MEMBERS WHO CAME TO THE LAST SHOOT
TALK WITH LEAH You’ve not had much ink since the last time we shot you, is this it now or do you plan to get more work done? I know I thought I would be more inked up as well, but no it’s definitely not the end, I love tattoos and what they represent. For me every tattoo I’ve had is actually a story about something that has happened in my life, not just random pictures that I like, it really does have to be
something relevant. You will definitely see lots more ink to come from me in the near future. What’s the next tattoo you plan to get done? I’m planning to finish my sleeve, with the faces you know the happy and sad ones, which I’ve wanted for years, I chose this because we all have up and down days but also they look like the theatre masks and acting has been a
big part in my life too, so I want that done. Some more work on my chest, I also want to fill up more of my leg and add to the Geisha a huge dragon running from my leg all the way up my body and my son is called Phoenix so I would love to get a Phoenix down my back. The only problem is finding out where I am going to fit it all, probably another reason I’ve slowed down,I don’t want to run out
of space and not be able to get no more ink, I’m not sure what I will do then. What is it that runs through your mind when you decide to get a tattoo? Other than it being relevant, I also like to get things that represent me, I get people that say 'oh I’m not into tattoos, I don’t like tattoos, wait let me see yours', and they turn around and say they really like them, where did you get them? A lot of people appreciate the artwork I have on my skin and they can see that it’s not rubbish tattooing and I’ve actually turned a few people from tattoo haters to lovers, some even have sleeves themselves now, so it shows anyone can change and it’s amazing what the power of a tattoo can do. Worst tattoo you have ever seen? Probably been quite a lot, I don’t really look at people and think omg why did you do that to yourself. But there are a lot of people that get drunk on weekends or on holiday and end up getting ridiculous names on their butts or friends names tattooed on their faces, stupid. How do you feel about Paperchasers Ink and where the magazine as come to? I think you guys should be so proud of yourself. You have come far and even helped the tattooing industry to get more known. I mean even since the beginning you allowed me to get involved and write pieces. You get people involved which is one thing I love. You have been very supportive of me through my studies and everything. Although I can’t always be around to help as much as I would like to, you haven’t given up on me you have still been patient with me, which I really thank you for. I would like to thank you guys for letting me still be a part of paperchasers ink and I think its amazing you guys are even going to print now. It honestly makes me really proud because I know how hard you guys work and you have proved to people that doubted you it can be done and at the same time giving all of us tattooed people a voice, thanks
TALK WITH TAMIKA DIAMOND Tamika you are a member that featured previously, so we caught up with you again and got you down to the shoot, how was it for you? The shoot for me was really fun, I had a good time it was nice to meet the people and the crew was great! I had lots of fun with the photographers, It was a really good day. It was nice to finally meet Creepa and Chatta, after all this time of supporting the mag. The make-up artist was so nice and friendly she did my makeup really, well I was
pleased with it. It was a really cool and chilled out, fun day in all. I had all my clothes ready and then I wasn’t sure what to wear, haha it was just really nice to be around such friendly people. Got to see some of the behind the scenes footage being filmed too, which was cool You even had to climb on somebody’s shoulders at one point! You done a fab job, did you enjoy your day with us? Oh yes I did, luckily for me he had muscles and was a tatted
handsome guy, I wasn’t too worried about him having a lack of strength to pick me up. I also really enjoyed wearing the Mickey hands, it made the shoot very fun. For any new readers who haven’t seen you before, Who are you and what do you do? I go by Tamika Diamond and I am an urban glamour tattoo model. I do music videos and I am also a freestyle dancer that works on stage in various nightclubs.
‘’ I would say for advice never to get tattoos whilst drunk on holiday’’ What is it about tattoos you love so much? What I love about tattoos is how you can reinvent yourself. Tattoos totally change your appearance. They also give you strength in a way, I guess it all depends on what your tattoos mean to you Do you have any tattoos that you don’t like or regret? I do actually I regret a few cheap drunken holiday ones, that I have had done. I would say for advice never to get tattoos whilst drunk on holiday! It’s way better to pay more and go to a good artist if you want to get inked. Three interesting facts about you? Well I am originally from Derby. I lived in Los Angeles for two years and I have twenty one tattoos including my whole back. If you could have a secret power what would it be? My secret power would have to be, to be able to teleport from place to place, so I can visit family and friends that live in a second and you could diffuse yourself from crazy situations What do you think about Paperchasers Ink? I think Paperchasers Ink is a great read and a great magazine for people that have a passion for ink. It is also a great way to get to know about other up and coming urban inked models, as well as lots of great tattoo ideas.
TALK WITH STARZ Starz you have been part of the movement since the beginning although it’s a first getting you in front of the camera, how was it for you shooting for the first time, with some many people around? To be honest it was alright it wasn’t too bad I was very nervous in the beginning. On the way up to meet you guys my heart was racing a little bit but once I got there it was alright I felt at home everyone was really friendly and I
already knew Ben which was cool What is it about getting tattoos that you love so much? I don’t know to tell the truth, I don’t think I’m addicted more committed really. It’s become like an art piece that’s never finished. The only thing I’m worried about is loosing space as when I see space I want to patch it up to finish my masterpiece. Because I feel like I’ve done so much work on it, that I feel like now I have to go all the way, because I’ve
got to the stage that certain people will not go to, if you know what I mean. I would just say it lead from one thing to another and then I just saw a masterpiece coming along and looking at it realised it could eventually be joined up and look sick. Do you see tattoos as a fashion statement? Not really I never got tattoos because my friends have them. I don’t choose things for fashion purposes more things that have a meaning to me or resemble me and my
‘’You guys give people a lot of opportunities and exposure which is really good and constructive’’ life in some way. I feel like I’ve got to a level with ink where I see people and they look at me like I’m some kind of exhibit and I love it. If you could describe yourself in 3 words what would they be? Three words, haha, that’s a good one? I don’t want to sound too vain but I will have to say one word, because if i say any more words than they will all lead to something else, so | am going to say awesome! Most painful place you’ve been inked so far? To be honest my elbow, my funny bone I couldn’t keep it straight, haha I know. But because I’ve got tattoos on my eye lids people say wow that must of hurt, but didn’t I think because I was so excited to get it done, I even signed a contract saying that if they took my eyeball out I wouldn’t sue them. That’s when you know, you are seriously committed. But that wasn’t even that part that scared me. It was when it came down to my elbow, I have slim elbows, I’m slim but when he was going around the funny bone, it was going erratic my hand was going all over the place, I found that seriously painful. What advice would you give to anyone just turned eighteen that’s eager to get inked? I would say think about it and if you are genuinely up for getting inked then go for it but make sure you are doing it for the right reasons. Not for a fashion statement because in ten yeas that fashion may not be there any more. Think about it in the long run, because a lot of people just go and get gang tattoos and they aren’t really in a gang in ten years time. I’m not into those kind of tatts at all, at the end of the day what ever you have on your skin people will associate it with you. Think before you ink! What do you think of Paperchasers Ink? When I first heard of you guys I instantly liked what you were doing, now I know you guys are on to big things and I think its’s going to go far and that is why I want to be part of it. You guys give people a lot of opportunities and exposure which is really good and
TALK WITH BEN Lets start with your sleeve, how did it happen? The sleeve just happened as a result of people (females) telling me I should get one, I already had a forearm piece, so just went and found the right artist with the ability to tie it all together nicely, took about 3-4 sessions and it was complete. What do you think about face and hand tattoos? I really like hand tattoos and have been debating getting one, I’ve even had thoughts of doing a tiny something in the corner of one of my eyes just
to give that edgy look, but due to the stigma attached to it and probably also the way I have been brought up, | haven’t done either and sure that I never actually would. I’d never want it to limit opportunities in my career etc some people still have a very old fashioned way of thinking.
something to me. Think the next one will be “ignorance is bliss"
Favourite quote? My favourite quote is an Irish quote I actually have tattooed across my chest and that is “may neighbours respect you, trouble neglect you, angels protect you and heaven accept you” it really means
What do you think of paperchasers Ink? I think you guys are doing good things right now, good vibes, good people and good energy, 2015 is defiantly your year

Haha I thought it was really cool actually, it was a great way of getting to know them all a little better, obviously when you are about to touch some body you have to tell them beforehand what you are about to do and build up a bit of trust almost. But yeah the girls were lovely and the guys actually were really funny. We managed to get you in front of the camera too how was that for you being the other side for a change?
I was a bit nervous honestly, but I really enjoyed it as everyone was at ease it was fun, I enjoyed it. What do you think about Paperchasers Ink? Well, I think it’s going to blow up! I think you guys are fantastic, I really think you have a niche market, the look of the site and the content is brilliant and I just really love what you guys are doing, I really do

WHAT IS WAIST TRAINING? What is Waist training, It is a gradual process of waist reduction using a waistcinching corset. Kim Kardashian set the trend by posting a picture of herself posing in hers and since then, the wave of new fanatics have begun, their journey in waist training. Health affects are said to affect your lungs from expanding properly, meaning it can affect your breathing , as well as crushing your internal organs. I caught up with one of our members, who also was influenced by Kim K. to talk about her waist training. When did you start? I haven’t been waist training that long I started just over a month ago but when I first looked into it, was a while ago. I then thought about it for a bit but I defiantly wanted one so then I ordered it from America, had to wait ages for it to arrive. I think it works very fast, provided you are eating clean and doing regular exercise it works well.
You said you suffer from BDD, would you say that your obsession with waist training has part to do with that? I would say that the waist training plays a big part in BDD, I do think I suffer quite bad from it. I look in the mirror a lot everyday, all day sometimes, I know that sounds bad but I will look and think I look fat today or I look too skinny today. My main thing is my bums not big enough, but also with the waist training now I want this tiny little waist so I’m wearing the corset all day and sleeping with it on as well some nights. When I wake up I think to myself, it hasn’t done anything but then other days I think its really going in, so that’s where I think the BDD comes in to play quite a bit. Are you worried about any of the side effects or health risks with waist training and have you done your research? Yes, I have looked into the health risks of waist training and I’ve read that it can squash your organs and your insides but I also read that if you use a correct waist trainer it doesn’t actually do that, it’s just if your using like a corset, if that is true I don’t really know or not. Some of my friends think I’m mad and have said to me about my organs and I just said to them, yeah, but I’m going to have a small waist, haha I think my organs will be alright.
Is it painful wearing the waist trainer? The waist trainer is slightly painful but you get used to it after a while, I’m used to it now. Now that I am used to it I have been thinking about going down a size, at the moment I’m using a small size but I want to go to the extra small. Just to bring it in a bit quicker. What’s it like pushing yourself to the limit and wearing it to sleep and the gym? Going to sleep in it can be very painful and uncomfortable and I do find it very hard to go to sleep with it on. But all I keep telling myself is that in the morning I’m going to feel skinny on my waist. I do wear it to the gym, as they say that you should eat clean and when you work out you should wear it as it helps for quicker results. Advice for anyone that wants to waist train? Make sure you get a good waist trainer, eat clean, do plenty of exercise and remember to stay hydrated.
