CRAFT YOUR WAY TO A

unique WEDDING

W

hether you want a big, glitzy wedding or something simple and understated, it’s the details that make the day. Keep costs down and ensure your celebration is unique and beautiful by making what you can by hand. Why not create personalised invitations or craft your own décor? Take it a step further and make your own favours, confetti, signage and more to guarantee an extraordinary day that no one will forget.

• Say I DO • LUCY CLARK IS A STATIONERY DESIGNER AND KEEN BLOGGER WITH A PASSION FOR PERSONALISED WEDDINGS. ‘LUCY SAYS I DO’ OFFERS CUSTOMISED PAPER GOODS AND DESIGN FOR EVENTS, FROM RSVPS TO TABLE DÉCOR. WE SPOKE TO HER ABOUT HER WORK AND HER WEDDING. “It’s lovely to be a part of someone’s big day, I always feel very privileged to be involved in something so special. I create bespoke and personalised paper designs through a mixture of carefully chosen typography, pretty illustrations and pattern. This includes not only wedding invitations, but also decorations, seating plans, tableware, hand drawn maps and more. My designs are based on the couple and their requirements, meaning they’re unique to them. “The inspiration for my own wedding was simple: it was a celebration of love, life, family and

friends. With this in mind, it was very important to both my husband and I that the day was personal and I think it’s the little details that help make this possible. As part of our invitations, we gave our guests a little hand drawn map of the area. Not only was it useful, but it made a lovely keepsake. I love working with couples on fun things like this for their

wedding. Some of my favourite items that I’ve created have been giant light-up initials, big canvas seating plans and customised bunting. “Anything you make yourself is instantly special and unique. As a stationery designer, the invitations were an important detail of my wedding. My husband Paul and I made them together and I loved how they turned out – full of personal elements, they were like a little story of us. For us, the build up to the wedding was just as important as the day itself, and this was where many of the little details were created. There

were numerous evenings spent with friends and family creating, and I have some fantastic memories of those times. When you’re wedding planning, I think you should start by thinking about what sort of day you and your partner would enjoy. Personalise it and make it special to you both.” Visit lucysaysido.com for more.

CRAFTY EDGER

We asked Vicky Sheridan to put this useful gadget through its paces – here’s what she made!

A

n edge punch is a great resource for any papercrafter’s arsenal. It can be used for so much more than just adding a decorative border down one side of a greeting, as these three varied projects by Vicky Sheridan demonstrate. Try using your edger to create a 3D bow, a pretty frame and a striking background for a greeting – our photo guide makes it easy!

Just £18.99

WHY WE LOVE… Woodware Crafty Edger This tool is the ideal way to add decorative, perfectly aligned borders and corners to your cards and papercraft projects. It combines a 12” ruler and border punch and is really simple to use, allowing you to easily create a continuous decorative border or frame and give a professional finish to your makes. The punch tool uses interchangeable cassettes. The starter set comes with a straight and corner cassette to create the lovely figure of eight chain shown on these pages. There are many other fabulous designs available to buy in twin packs, each containing one straight and one corner cassette. They are stackable for ease of storage and are all clearly labelled so you can quickly identify them.

How to make a gift bow

ELAINE BENNETT, EDITOR

1 Punch three 20cm and one 10cm edger strips

2 Hold each 20cm strip in the centre and twist the end, creating a loop. Secure with glue

Craft essentials (see px92) Woodware Crafty Edger Deluxe Set Punches or dies: flower, circle, leaf Button

JUST A NOTE 1 Cut white card to 10.5cm x 15cm. Using the Crafty Edger, punch border strips from yellow, blue and green card and glue them diagonally across the card panel. 2 Trim away a section of the panel and replace it with a white card rectangle featuring a ‘Just a note to say’ sentiment. 3 Stick the completed panel to the front of a same-size blank with double-sided tape.

SWIRLY BOW BOX

3 Twist the opposite end into the centre and stick in place

1 Score a 20cm piece of white card at 6cm from each side. At each corner square, cut along one of the score lines to where the two lines cross to create a flap. 2 Fold and fix the corner flaps to create a box base. Repeat the above steps to form a box lid, covering each section with yellow spotty paper before glueing the flaps. 3 Using the Crafty Edger, punch two 20cm border strips from blue card and stick them in a cross shape across the lid and sides of the box. Make the bow as shown in the photo guide (right).

4 Layer up the three double loops, securing with glue, then finish with a 10cm loop in the centre

lthough Father’s Day is approaching fast, it doesn’t mean we have to ditch the glitz and glamour completely. With your prettiest papers and best pair of scissors in hand, Tracey show us how constructing different shaped cards is a simple and effective way to create something unique for a girlie friend. So why not brighten a loved one’s day with a greeting that’s bursting with personality?

You will need  Craft essentials (see p92)  Online template from papercraftermagazine.co.uk  Buttons: yellow, white  Dies: flower  Punch: butterfly  Gem: silver  Needle and thread

FLORAL DELIGHT 1 Download and cut out the template provided. Trace the shape onto white card and cover with black patterned paper. Create the same letter 5mm smaller from pink spotty paper and mount onto the greeting. 2 Die cut three large floral shapes from white card, place them together and secure by sewing a yellow button in the centre. 3 Die cut four different sized flowers from white card with two pieces per bloom, and secure them together in the same way. masterclass PRETTY PURSE 1 Cut two 10.5cm x 11.5cm rectangles from white card and cover one with yellow spotty paper. Score a line 2.5cm from the top of the uncovered panel and adhere this tab to the back of the yellow piece. Taper the shorter edges to form a handbag shape. 2 Die cut a 10cm circle from black patterned paper and cut a smaller circle from the centre, leaving a 1cm border. Snip the circle outline in half and attach it to the top of the bag. Die cut a 10cm circle from yellow spotty card, trim it in half and stick it to the top of the greeting. 3 Using different shades of pink card, die cut a large and small flower and a small circle. Sew a white button onto the small floral and layer it onto the circle. Attach this piece to the larger flower and secure onto the greeting, overlapping the semi-circle and spotty paper. Tie pink ribbon around the right corner of the purse strap.

How to make a birdhouse greeting USE YOUR ONLINE TEMPLATE

1 Cut two birdhouses from white card. Cover one with floral paper and trim a 4.5cm circle from the centre. Score a horizontal line 6cm from the top of the blank shape, add yellow paper below and stick the top section to the floral piece

3 Glue two 1.5cm x 10cm pink card strips to the top of the card. Adhere a 1cm x 8cm piece of pink card across the bottom. Stick a thin yellow border around the centre circle.

2 Cut a large bird shape from black patterned paper and three wing shapes from pink card. Layer these together. Add a silver gem eye and yellow card triangle beak

4 Join the bird to the centre bottom of the card with foam pads. Punch a small butterfly from pink card and coat in silver glitter

5 Use foam pads to secure the butterfly to the inside of the aperture.
