CONSTRUCTION MANAGEMENT KCT provides world-class construction management services to a broad range of clients across Qatar and the GCC. We are committed to client satisfaction and focus on building strategic partnerships throughout the entire construction process and beyond. Our people are experts in managing everything from small renovations to billion-riyal programmes across a wide range of sectors, including palaces, highend residential properties, sports stadiums, high-rise, governmental facilities and retail developments.

PRE-CONSTRUCTION The pre-construction phase defines the project’s character and is one of the most critical stages in a project’s life cycle. To be an effective component of the overall project delivery plan, the pre-construction process must expand beyond the traditional estimating exercise. Early on KCT’s pre-construction teams work diligently to define the overall construction approach, schedule and purchasing methodology, all of which directly impact the eventual quality, schedule and overall cost.
SELF-PERFORMANCE Our deep supply chain affords us impressive capabilities that enable us to deliver complex, large-scale projects in a manner that is unheard of elsewhere in the market. An extensive highly skilled labour force, exceeding 8000 and growing, helps KCT support its clients’ needs and gives us the ability to maintain control over all project aspects. 60 | COMPANY PROFILE 2015
1. RECRUITMENT The obstacle to successful hiring is no longer monetary but instead, it is the competitive and compensation environment. It is the war for talent and quality that has led the group to place a much stronger focus on sourcing talent from social professional networks and internet job boards as part of a greater structured strategy for winning over potential candidates, especially in the case of passive applicants. The group recognizes that knowledge gives an edge in recruitment and allows the HR department to stay ahead by acquiring more information about candidates in order to develop the messages best tailored to interest them in the organization. 2. TRAINING AND DEVELOPMENT The department constantly keeps up-todate by using the latest technology for TNA (Training Needs Analysis), training delivery and its effectiveness, performance management, induction and orientation of new staff members and for assessing the multi-cultural differences of the environment. Keeping up with the latest trends, T and D (Training and Development) emphasizes speed in design, content-focus, and use of multiple delivery methods, such as rapid instructional design, lectures, presentations, coaching and mentoring, apprenticeships, on-the-job training, JIT (just in time) process, case studies, business games and e-learning.
3. RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT Facing the ongoing challenge of finding, developing, rewarding, and retaining the most qualified members of the group’s skilled workforce, the HR department is on the front line competing to hire the best people for the organization. We help our leaders meet these recruitment challenges by sharing best practices, analyzing new ideas, discussing current HR issues concerning formulation and review of policies and procedures, establishment of banding systems, and exchanges of open and confidential information pertaining to performance management, diversity and other workforce issues. 4. COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS KCT recognizes that it is not only about ‘what a person is paid’, but is in fact a complex matter that also includes the direct and indirect rewards and benefits the employee is provided with in return for their contribution to the organization. With this in mind, the group has developed a comprehensive compensation and rewards scheme that outlines a fair transparent system for compensating employees. WE have established a well-structured programme with a good balance of wages, benefits and rewards that support the group’s competitive needs in today’s labour market.
5. PERSONNEL ADMINISTRATION Attendance, leave, insurance, resident permits, visa issuance, transportation, accommodation, hotel reservations, meet and assist, etc. are what our very active HR department is handling daily, ensuring all employees are well taken care of upon entering the group. Recognizing human capital as the most important resource of the organization, KCT takes its employees’ welfare issues seriously and handles them with care and diligence. KCT embraces a diverse, inclusive, fair and just environment. We have a commitment to training through a mentoring programme to broaden employees’ network and resources. Other facilities include quality-of-life benefits that include a paid vacation leave programme.
While the employee welfare programme is considered a basic benefit, KCT remains determined to go beyond “standard” run of the mill offerings. By providing a plan that is good for their welfare, we do our part to demonstrate to our people that we value them as our strategic partners in realising our vision and mission. Our various health plans offer preventative care, to aid employees in staying healthy, cutting down on absenteeism and sick days. Providing a good employee welfare plan reflects well on our business – and builds trust both within and without the organization.
2015 COMPANY PROFILE | 61
CORPORATE SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITIES Al Khayyat Contracting and Trading (KCT) is committed to promoting responsible business practices and expects and encourages all stakeholders to respect all applicable laws and international standards, to operate transparently and to consult with host governments and local communities if in doubt, and to conduct its activities in a socially and environmentally responsible manner.
Blood Donation Campaign KCT is committed to interacting with and serving the community in Qatar. It is our firm belief that blood donation is a noble way to serve humanity. With this commitment, we organize a blood donation campaign every year with the Syrian American Clinic (SAC) in coordination with Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC).
62 | COMPANY PROFILE 2015
World Environment Day (WED) KCT is committed to raising global awareness and taking positive environmental action to protect the planet. Earth Hour Earth Hour is a worldwide initiative undertaken by the World Wide Fund for Nature. It began as a single lights-off event in Sydney in 2007; however, it is now carried out in 7000 cities and towns worldwide. Typically, individuals, businesses and governments turn off their lights for
one hour to save electricity and advocate environmental sustainability. In Qatar, home of the world’s largest per capita carbon footprint, the environmental event has an even greater significance. The country has been taking steps in recent years to encourage conservation of electricity and water – the latter being a rapidly depleting precious resource in the Gulf. KCT, with its commitment to corporate social responsibility, celebrates this event every year by shutting down power in all of KCT’s facilities for an hour.
