Welcome This year’s Chatteris Midsummer Festival aims to appeal to as many people as possible by combining the most popular attractions of the recent Historic and Jubilee Festivals. Welcome to this programme which will give you a guide to the many and varied activities on offer.

The Midsummer Festival will run from June 26th to 30th at Furrowfields Recreation Ground and will include the walking parade, Party in the Park, Tug of War and It’s a Knockout competitions and the dog show. Entry to the Festival site is just £1 per person each day. Also returning will be the clairvoyance evening, the Living History Day for schoolchildren, the cream teas and, of course, the popular arena events including performances by local youth groups, historic re-enactments, children’s entertainers and musical items. New for this year will be a baking and cake decorating competition, Disco Inferno with music from the 60’s and 70’s and a performance by a professional theatrical company of ‘Ours Was the Fen Country’. Attractions for children will include junior versions of the Tug of War and It’s a Knockout competitions on the Sunday, a climbing wall and warzone laser games on the Saturday, performances by Devilstick Peat and the Dragons of Wye-ten and the ever popular fun fair over the weekend. The organisers are hoping as many residents as possible will be involved by taking part or cheering on the parade, taking part in the competitions, supporting talented local singers at the Party in the Park or simply watching the fun. The Festival is a great example of partnership working between the two main funders Chatteris Town Council and Fenland District Council and hard working volunteers from the community. Please come along and support this community event.

Festival Parade Saturday 29th June at 11am The popular Festival Parade returns this year, due to public demand. The organisers are hoping many local groups and individuals will take part in this yearâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s walking parade which will leave the Church Lane car park at 11am on the Saturday and make its way through the centre of the town to the event site at Furrowfields. The themes this year are Over the Rainbow or Songs of the Sixties. Participants are asked to register in advance by ringing 695166 or e-mailing chatteriscouncil@btconnect.com Those taking part should assemble at 10.30am. Please come along and cheer on the parade.

Shop Window Dressing Event Chatteris Rotary Club has once again kindly organised a shop window dressing event to coincide with the Midsummer Festival. All Chatteris retailers have been invited to arrange a window display on the Festival themes of Over the Rainbow and Songs of the Sixties. The Rotary Club will provide charity donations for the three best dressed windows so please find time to view the displays.

The aircraft are regularly seen at events commemorating World War II, upon British State occasions, notably the Trooping the Colour celebrating Queen Elizabeth II’s birthday and at air displays throughout the United Kingdom and Europe. The Clan Wulfhar Vikings An authentic re-enactment of the Viking way of life through demonstrations of Viking combat and an ever increasing “living history” display, which includes a variety of Dark Age tents, a cooking area and an armoury.

Devilstick Peat ...the complete fool! When Peat first told his family and friends about his ambition to become a fool they were, understandably, concerned! However, undeterred by their reservations Peat persevered and has spent the last 17 years learning a multitude of talents which, mixed with his own zany brand of humour, has resulted in Devilstick Peat reaching near iconic status within the circus, entertainment, and re-enactment communities. Party in the Park Saturday 29th June at 5.30pm

Following the undoubted success of last year’s event, Party in the Park returns this year under the leadership of Jon-Paul Parker. Jon-Paul has spent many months working with local singers to help them make the most of their talents and ensure this year’s show is better than ever. Singers and musicians who will be performing will include Jon-Paul himself, Kelly Oliver and David Bailey, Christian Smith, Holly and Connor, Maya Lavallin, Shannon Buckton, Misty Jones, Haylie Mae and Kira Gibson along with bands Eddie Manson & the Disciples, Nomads and Flowers and The Makers. With a beer tent and refreshment stalls on site and an entry fee of just £1, it promises to be a great night out for all the family.

The Victorian Strollers We are a well established Network of friends of all ages from all over Southern England (and up to Hull in fact), with a similar interest, who specialise in portraying Victorian gentlefolk with a great range of award winning characters in authentic period costumes; Gentlemen, Ladies, Officers, Children and on occasion a few of the ‘lower classes’ as well. Ours Was The Fen Country An evocative and ethereal piece of dance-theatre conjured from captured conversations with people of the fens in East Anglia, created by Dan Canham and the Company of the New Wolsey Theatre. Using interviews with eel-catchers, farmers, parish councillors, museum keepers, molly dancers and conservationists, Dan and his team fuse movement and sound with the words and memories of their native collaborators to get to the heart of this beautiful, bleak and mysterious expanse of flat land. Ours Was The Fen Country is a striking and poetic look at things disappearing and the inevitability of change from the voices of those who still know the old words. Dan is a choreographer, performer and creative lead of Still House. Members of the ‘Ours was the Fen Country’ ensemble have worked with DV8, Kneehigh, Punchdrunk and Fabulous Beast amongst others. Farcet Dance and Twirl The troupe have been together since 2005 and in that time they have performed at various functions. Dance & Twirl perform to contemporary music using dance poms and batons. The troupe have proved a great success and they really enjoy their performances. A feature of the troupe is the pink sports car that leads them out and also provides the backing music at outdoor events. The Chief Instructor and founder Mrs Denise Fovargue along with Mrs Mel Hamlet and Troupe leader Rebecca Ward all hope you really enjoy the performances. It’s A Knockout competitions at Furrowfields Teams of 6 to 8 competitors are invited to take part in a number of silly games and challenges designed to test the competitor’s skills and stamina. Prizes for winning team. Entry fee only £1 per person. There is also a competition for junior teams (ages 8 – 16).

Over the Weekend - Flypasts Confirmation has been received from the RAF that, subject to weather conditions, the Festival is scheduled for Flypasts by a Hawker Hurricane at 4.20pm on the Saturday and by an Avro Lancaster from the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight at 3.35pm on the Sunday.

There will also be a special event at 2pm on the Festival Saturday – a live cake decorating competition in the marquee. Participants will be invited to produce the most creative decorated cake in the one hour allotted. The basics for taking part will be provided – dummy cakes, a cake board, icing, a few cutters and colourings – but participants are invited to bring along their own boards, rolling pins and tools.

The instructors here at Adrenaline Martial Arts have been teaching men, women and children for the past eighteen years across our region. Over the years we have developed specialised programmes for all ages and abilities and we have been able to take the techniques passed down by the traditional masters of yesterday and teach them in a way that is fun to learn and inspirational to our students. Xpressions! Youth Theatre This year Xpressions! Youth Theatre from Chatteris will be performing a short scene from Peter Pan which they are actually performing over the festival weekend. The youth theatre have been working on this performance for many months and are very excited about performing at the Midsummer Festival. 20Twenty Theatre who run the group feel it is a great opportunity for the town to see how talented they are.

The Pentacle Drummers The Pentacle Drummers were founded in 2001 to perform at the Lammas Festival to accompany the Eastbourne Giants, ‘Herne the Hunter’ and ‘Andred’, Saxon Goddess of the Weald. Since then they have grown from a small group to a troupe in excess of 40 members who perform at over 30 events a year.

A Moment in Time A Moment in Time brings together the best of Living History Re-enacting. Since it’s inception, A Moment in Time has grown to offer over 1000 years of history in its displays, In the Arenas encompassing many periods from Late Roman all the way through 1.30pm & 4.00 pm Saturday to the Mid 20th Century. The Dragons of Wye-ten We are a family run puppet theatre specialising in medieval puppetry with jousting knights, princesses to be rescued and our speciality, sword-fighting dragons. Our puppetry retells some of the oldest tales ever told, along with new stories from our writing team. As well as stories told on our stage we also present the Medieval Interactive Puppet Show, where the children are encouraged to become the puppeteers! This includes Yumi, our 12ft long dragon for 5 children at a time to puppeteer! - In front of our stageWalkabout.
