Welcome..... ......to the St George’s Fayre 2011!!! Once again we are very excited to be bringing the ever popular St George’s Fayre back to March. There are many activities and entertainment throughout the town all day, to appeal to all tastes and ages. Take a look at the Programme of Events in the centre pages which details the entertainment taking place in “St George’s Square” (normally called the Market Place!) and “The Dragon’s Lair” (otherwise known as the library mound!). You’ll find some favourites back again and some new faces too. If you can’t decide who to go and see, have a look through this programme and read the information about some of the performers to help you make up your mind. Once you’ve planned your schedule of activities, don’t forget to visit the Craft Fairs in the Town Hall and St Peter’s Church Hall, and don’t forget to take a wander throughout the town for the fairground rides and other attractions. For the children, there are free craft activities in “The Dragon’s Lair”, Uncle Mick’s Magic Show and storytelling. If you’ve picked this programme up early, have a look at page 14 for details of the Art Competition and Decorate a Shield Competition - the closing date for entry for these is during the week prior to the Fayre, so check the details carefully. No-one need miss out though, as there will be the popular Shop Window Hunt on the day itself - see page 14 again for details. And if you get lost ... there’s a map on page 11! Have a great day!

Richard Hyams, Artist Born in London 1943 I am a retired professional model maker who has been involved in the artistic world for some forty years. I paint in various media including pencil drawings which I particularly enjoy. The work is executed in a variety of sizes on a wide range of supports including canvas, prepared board, and good quality water窶田olour paper. The sizes reflect the subject dominance be it a small watercolour or a large acrylic painting. Having run an art group in my home village, I alongside others enjoy the interaction of fellow artists. Prior to moving to Manea I was a long term member of Peterborough art society and the Castor art society where I was an active committee member in both organizations and exhibited regularly. Since moving to Manea I have become a member of Fenvac where I have the opportunity to exhibit my work in a variety of venues.

The Performers Strangeworld Recently appeared at March Town Hall and were so good we asked them to appear at our St George’s event........ In a recent review Strangeworld were described as playing "progressive folk music" and as "taking the folk/roots genre and giving it a real makeover". Played exquisitely on traditional instrumentation including cello, oboe, bassoon, cittern, mandolin and piano accordion (amongst many others), the band use influences from the musical spectrum to create a sound that is both unique and mesmerising. The listener is taken on a wonderful musical journey, gripped in its magical spell. 2011 will see the release of the band's 3rd album, "Demons Within". www.strangeworldmusic.com
Tom Harlock Tom Harlock is a local musician, he has appeared with various bands over the years such as Krak'n, Mind the Gap and Sirico, playing either Guitar, Drums, Bass or Harmonica! He currently plays Lead Guitar in London based Rock/Blues band "Burning Room". The band are currently in the studio recording their first album, but released their first single on iTunes last year. Tom also plays acoustic guitar for local singer Aimee Peart-Webb. They currently have a good local following and enjoyed a sold out night at the Skoulding Suite in March. Tom is also part of the Fenland Arts - DUDI Crew! As part of the DUDI Crew, Tom helps run Jam sessions with local singer Bondy and helps with various workshops throughout the year. Apart from performing, Tom has a keen interest in Live Sound. He regularly is the sound engineer for Fenland Arts events, but also rents his 3K system out for various other events, from Rock gigs to Dance shows. Bondy Bondy is a local singer/songwriter who has has been writing songs for 10 years. Playing guitar, he performs his own compositions listing his influences as including Show of Hands, Seth Lakeman, Fairport, Richard Thompson and Loudon Wainwright III. March Youth Theatre Fenland Arts Association have been running a youth theatre in March for six years and we now have 55 members. Our summer show this year is at Dunhams Wood on 16th & 17th July. Our junior group will be performing Jungle Story (a version of The Jungle Book) and the senior group will be performing a musical version of Shakespeare's Much Ado about Nothing called Much Ado Ron Ron. Aimee Peart-Webb Aimee Peart-Webb is a young lady from March with a voice every bit a match for Alicia Keys and Leona Lewis. Aimee was the winner of Young Cambridgeshire Has Talent in 2010 which took her to the finals of UK Unsigned at the O2 Arena in London where she came a magnificent 3rd out of 1000's and 1000's of entries. Fenland Arts are also very proud to have Aimee as part of their DUDI crew a band of musicians who come together at events and fundraisers to support the great work done by Fenland Arts to raise musical aspirations in the Fenland Area. Aimee is a must see, having that level of talent on our doorstep, you can then say “I saw Aimee before she was famous!”

Peterborough Highland Pipe Band Peterborough Highland Pipe Band is a uniformed marching band that has been promoting Scottish Highland music through public performances in and around the City of Peterborough for over 60 years. We help organisations like The Royal British Legion to raise much needed funds for their various charities. The band is available for private bookings such as Weddings, Funerals, Parties, Fetes and Corporate events.
Uncle Mick Uncle Mick started his entertainment business over 25 years ago when, in 1982, he built his first Punch & Judy booth. After a successful season at Morecambe Mick moved to Peterborough where he ventured into children's amusements. Within a couple of years his business had grown to a mini funfair with roundabouts and bouncy castles and children's parties had grown with magic, ventriloquism and a children's disco. Mick now offers a wide range of entertainment facilities including attending children's parties, Punch and Judy shows, funfair rides, side stalls, windbreak and deck chair hire, bouncy castles and balloon modelling.
Dance & Twirl Majorettes from Farcet Peterborough The troupe have been together since 2005 and in that time they have performed at various functions. Dance & Twirl perform to contemporary music using dance poms and batons. The troupe have proved a great success and they really enjoy their performances. A feature of the troupe is the pink sports car that leads them out and also provides the backing music at outdoor events. The Chief Instructor and founder Mrs Denise Fovargue along with Mrs Mel Hamlet and Troupe leader Rebecca Ward all hope you really enjoy the performances.

Children’s Activities at March Library A Craft Workshop by Fred White will be available to children of all ages at March Library from 10.00am to 12.45pm. Children will have the opportunity to make their very own dragon or dragon book cover. The workshop is a drop-in event so spaces will be limited throughout the morning. Entry is FREE, so why not come along and visit us in the Dragon’s Lair! Children must be accompanied by a parent or guardian at all times.
Art Competition The title for the Art Competition this year is "The Shield" For all young artists, resident within 5 miles of March. The overall winner will receive a commemorative trophy and art materials prize. There will also be a special prize for the best watercolour entry. Entries must be received at March Library by Friday April 15th, so if you’ve picked up this programme early there may still be time! Entry forms with full rules are available at the library. Judging is at 1.00pm on Sunday April 17th.
Decorate a Shield Competition The March Area Regeneration and Development Trust invite children up to 11 years old and living within 5 miles of March to enter the Decorate a Shield competition. Pop into the library to collect an entry form or enter online via www.mardt.org.uk Shield templates are available from the library, if required. Closing date for receipt of entry forms is 13th April; the shields themselves should be brought to the Market Place on the day of the Fayre for 1.00pm.
Children's ‘Hunt St. George’ Competition Shops in March are again supporting the St. George's Fayre by running a ‘Hunt St. George’ competition for children attending the Fayre. Hidden in many shop windows around the town are pictures of St. George riding his horse. Children need to hunt down the pictures and note the colour of St. George's banner. Five winners will be chosen at the end of the Fayre, each winning a gift voucher to spend in local shops sponsored by March Chamber of Commerce. To take part, simply pick up an entry form on the day from an Event Guide, track down all the St. Georges, then return your entry to the Fenland Arts stall on the Market Place by 3:30pm.

FenCraft Fairs Arts & Crafts Fairs staged and professionally managed at events throughout Fenland and the Eastern Counties. We have many years experience of the craft fair world and have put that to good use in helping others to get the best out of events for a wide range of artists and crafters. From staging small shows for 10 to 15 stallholders to major events, our high standards are always a priority. We are very proud to have been asked to manage to Arts & Crafts fair within the St George’s Fayre that has filled the town centre at March for the past two years and will be doing so again in 2011. We are very to have been asked to manage the Arts & Crafts fair within the St George’s Fayre. We are proud to be part of a strong community partnership with FDC and other local stakeholder groups in the organisation of this event, which attracted 7000 visitors last year. We have also managed craft events for the Wildfowl & Wetlands Trust and for the RSPCA in recent years.
