Fenland Arts Fenland Arts has been developing and supporting arts in Fenland for over 25 years and is going from strength to strength. We have some great projects going on at the moment including: Youth Theatre: Fenland Arts runs a very successful youth theatre based at the Town Hall in March, we now have over 70 children and young people taking part on a regular basis and our next performance will be Bugsy Malone at Dunhams Wood on 10th & 11th July. Fenland Arts will start a new youth theatre in Whittlesey after Easter and we are delighted to report that Fenland Arts will continue to carry on the torch that Kate Johnson started of CrazyCats in Chatteris again starting late April. Youth Music: We have jammin sessions starting at March Town Hall, Whittlesey Youth and Community Centre and Centre4 in Wisbech for young people all starting after Easter. For more information contact me at info@fenlandarts.org.uk or check out our web-site www.fenlandarts.org.uk.
Fenland Arts Officer, Katherine Nightingale
DoUDigIt Promotions: Is a group of young people who have been trained by AdeC to promote events through Fenland Arts. Their first big night was The Rigbys on March 20th and there will be lots more to come. Arts Award: Fenland Arts are thrilled to be able to offer the Arts Award to all young people involved in our projects aged 11-25. We have 20 young people within our youth theatre who should all receive a bronze award in May. As well as all of this Fenland Arts provides holiday craft workshops for children and young people all over Fenland. For other members of the community: Cinema: Fenland Arts in partnership with Fenland District Council have been showing films all over Fenland during school holidays. This will continue over the Easter holidays with Planet 51 and Fantastic Mr Fox. Information will be sent to local schools and advertised in villages. Older People: Fenland Arts recently ran a pilot music project in several care homes in March and Wisbech. A musician played acoustic guitar while the residents banged and shook a variety of musical instruments to accompany her whilst they all sang popular songs. This has been extremely successful and we plan to roll this out to more care homes in the community over the coming months.

These include music, theatre, historical talks, comedy and film. We are delighted to support local artists like Bondy who is playing on April 30th, and Aimee Peart-Webb who supported the Rigbys. Bondy Singer/Songwriter from March, Cambridgeshire Supported by Fenland Arts
When I was 14, I got my first ever electric guitar and amp. I’d spend hours and hours playing that thing, annoying the neighbours as anyone would do, but felt excited by the whole thought of being on the stage playing; it was all I wanted to do. Years passed by and in my teenage years I finally got working full time and started to write songs, also putting together a solo career in playing the pub and club circuit. After a few years of Karaoke, it was time to do it Solo, so I invested some cash in some second hand amps and mixers etc and away I went, thinking the road to the top was easy. Well, it wasn’t and I had to break into it gently. I still get the biggest buzz playing to 5 people, let alone 50 or even 250.
I have been writing songs now for 10 years and have been looking to promote them further. I am going to be performing them live at the March Town Hall, on Friday April 30th My first love affair with music started from 2010. Tickets are priced at £6 in advance or when I was only a young child. My parents £7 on the door. Doors open at 7.30pm and always had the radio on at home and I used the concert starts at 8pm. to hum along to the songs, even though I I would like to take this opportunity to thank didn’t know the words. I soon became Fenland Arts for their continuing support in fascinated by guitars and for my 10th birthday, offering me this chance to perform my songs my parents bought me a classical nylon at the Town Hall as a local person. guitar, which I strummed on and made a noise with until one of my mum’s friends put For more information please contact Fenland her in contact with a local guitar tutor. At the Arts on 01354 652769. age of 12 I decided this was the thing for me. Check out: www.unsigned.com/bondy, to I soon picked up playing chords, even though hear my songs my fingers hurt like anything, but everybody goes through that!

Local Support for People with Learning Disabilities Cambridgeshire Mencap is a local charity which supports people with learning disabilities in lots of different ways. In Fenland we support adults who mostly live at home with their parents. Sometimes we find that they are a little bit isolated and need some support to meet new people. To help we provide a befriending scheme where a carefully matched volunteer visits the person regularly and spends time with them. Typically volunteers help their friends to do things outside their home – a trip to the bowling alley or the pub for example. They can also help them with any specific hobbies they have, and could accompany them to the organised activities we run such as games sessions, discos and summer barbecues. This support and friendship helps the person to get out and socialise with people their own age rather than their parents or carers. This added freedom then helps them build up their independence, confidence and life skills. We rely on volunteers to help deliver our services and welcome those who want to make a positive difference.
