Rent-A-Pool!

Enjoy a pool side birthday party, family reunion or neighborhood party in a pleasant environment. Rental time is two hours and certified lifeguards are provided. A variety of after hour rental plans are available. Or, ask about our party area rentals which will allow you to have your party during the public swim times! Pool rentals are available at Carpenter Park Recreation Center, Jack Carter Outdoor Pool, Liberty Recreation Center Outdoor Pool, Oak Point Recreation Center, Plano Aquatic Center and Tom Muehlenbeck Recreation Center. Pool rentals are available to non-residents for an additional fee. Contact the center directly to make your reservation. See page 90 for center phone numbers.

Pool rental reservations can be made up to two months in advance.

Specialized Aquatics

FlowRider (Beg/Int) Learn to ride the big waves on the FlowRider at Jack Carter Pool. This course is for anyone wanting to learn to bodyboard and qualify to standup ride on the FlowRider during public times. For safety purposes, the minimum class requirements are: all participants are at least 42 inches in height to ride the bodyboard; all participants are at least 48 inches in height to stand-up ride; all participants wanting to standup ride must sign the FlowRider release of liability waiver; and all participants must be able to swim in fast moving turbulent water.The Waiver can be obtained from the Jack Carter Pool web page. If you are under the age of 18, a parent/ guardian must sign the waiver.

Learn to ride the big waves on the FlowRider at Jack Carter Pool. This class is geared towards individuals with special needs. Staff can accommodate for participants using a modified board as well as guided instruction making it possible for anyone to ride the wave. All ability levels are welcome to participate. For safety purposes, the minimum class requirements are: all participants are at least 42 inches in height to ride the bodyboard; all participants are at least 48 inches in height to stand-up ride; all participants wanting to standup ride must sign the FlowRider release of liability waiver. Lifeguard Training w/Waterpark (15 Yrs & Up) This is an American Red Cross Lifeguard Certification class that will certify the participant in Waterpark Lifeguard Training, CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer, First Aid, Oxygen Administration, and Bloodborne Pathogen Training. The Lifeguard, First Aid, CPR-PR, and Oxygen Administration are two year certifications and the Bloodborne Pathogen certification must be renewed each year. In order to participate in this class you must pass a pre-course which consists of a 300 yard continuous swim using front crawl and/or breast stroke, tread water for two minutes using only your legs, and a timed event which includes swimming 20 yards, picking up a 10 pound brick from the bottom of 7-10 feet of water and swimming it back to the side keeping both hands on the brick. The participant MUST attend all class sessions in order to pass.

This course prepares instructor candidates to use course and presentation materials, conduct training sessions and evaluate the progress of candidates in a professional-level course. Candidates must be currently certified as a lifeguard. There is a $35 nonrefundable fee due to the American Red Cross for the online pre-course.

45146 TMC Tu-Th 10am-6pm 7/5 3 Staff $215 Water Safety Instructor (16 Yrs & Up) This course certifies participants to teach Red Cross swimming courses to infants through adults. Bring a 1-inch notebook on the first day of class to hold your Instructor manual. Bring a swimsuit, towel, and dry change of clothes to all class sessions. The pre-course will be at the start of the first class. To pass the pre-course, participants must tread water and back float in deep water for 1 minute and swim 25 yards of the following strokes at a level IV ability or higher: front crawl, back crawl, elementary backstroke, breaststroke, butterfly, and sidestroke. To pass and obtain certification, instructor candidates must attend and participate in all class sessions, complete all assigned practice teaches and lesson plans, demonstrate competency in all required skills and activities, and pass a final written exam with a minimum score of 80 percent (40 out of 50 multiple choice questions). There is a nonrefundable $37 fee due to the American Red Cross before this course begins. The instructor will send a link for online registration through Red Cross 1-2 weeks before class begins. 46352 TMC Th 5:30pm-8:30pm 7/7 1 Staff $5 Intro to Swim Team (8-14 Yrs) This class is for swimmers who have passed Swim Level IV to bridge from Red Cross stroke techniques to competitive swimming techniques. In addition to stroke refinement swimmers will learn flip turns, how to use a pace clock, and starts from a block. Participants without the proper prerequisite skills will be moved to another program if available or refunded.

Swim Teams

Aquaducks Swim Team (6-18 Yrs)

Have a fun-filled summer with our recreation swim team, the Plano Aquaducks. The team is for kids ages 6-18 years old by June 1, 2022. Prerequisite: Swimmers ages 10 and younger must have the ability to swim 25 yards front and back crawl without stopping and be deep water safe; swimmers 11 and over must be familiar with all four competitive strokes. Parent meeting and new swimmer tryouts is May 21 at 9am at Oak Point Recreation Center. New swimmers must be registered and have a spot in order to try out. The summer season starts May 31 and the last practice day for those not making state will be July 15th. By signing up, parents and swimmers agree to follow the Aquaducks Code of Conduct located on the web site. Swimmers 14 and younger registered with USA Swimming after January 1, 2022 are not eligible. The cost of the program includes a team t-shirt.

The Plano Piranhas is a youth recreational swim team dedicated to providing swimmers with a “taste” of competitive swimming. The Piranhas participate in the Texas Amateur Athletic Federation’s (TAAF) swim meets offered across North Texas throughout the summer season. Competing in swim meets is not required but encouraged. Swimmers who qualify for the State competition have the option to compete in TAAF’s Summer Games of Texas in Corpus Christi July 21-24, 2022. Bronze practices are for swimmers comfortable in deep water who can perform strokes at a Swim Level III ability. Swimmers who have not previously participated in Plano Parks & Recreation swim lessons must try out before registering. Coaching staff has the right to make the decision of whether or not a swimmer needs additional training before joining Piranhas. We also reserve the right to move swimmers up a level during the season depending on their improvement /skills. Sensory Friendly Days at Plano Pools

Sensory Friendly Day is an exclusive time set aside at Plano pools for children with Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD) and sensory processing differences to have a fun, enjoyable and interactive learning experience in a comfortable and accepting environment. It is regular admission and participants are welcome to stay once the pool opens to the public. Visit planoparks.org for specific times, dates and locations.

Great starts and turns can be the difference between first and second place. These clinics are an opportunity for Piranhas swimmers to get extra practice with starts and turns to prepare for competition. Each swimmer will select strokes of interest when enrolling and swimmers will be grouped into lanes accordingly.
