Facility Rules

Recreation Centers: Children under 10 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian 16 or older. Children under 7 must be actively supervised by a parent or guardian 16 or older.

Pools: Children under 7 must be actively supervised by a parent or guardian 16 or older. The parent or guardian may supervise up to three children. Children 7-9 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian 16 or older.

Weight Rooms: Children under 13 are not permitted in the weight rooms. Children 13-15 must be actively supervised by a parent or guardian 18 or older.

Additional Payment Information

1 Please make checks or money orders payable to the City of Plano Print your driver’s license number and date of birth on your check

2 A 10 percent discount on classes is offered for all registrants 60 and older Trips and shows/events are excluded

3 NON-RESIDENTS (INCLUDING PISD) ARE CHARGED AN ADDITIONAL $4 PER COURSE

4 If you do not wish to pay with a credit card, you may visit any recreation center PRIOR to your registering and place a credit on your account using cash or check

Financial Assistance

Financial assistance is available for Plano residents for annual tennis passes, memberships and recreation course programs . Please call 972941-7256 for additional information (Application forms are available at planoparks .org .)

1 . Go to any Plano recreation center: Carpenter Park Recreation Center, Liberty Recreation Center, Oak Point Recreation Center and Tom Muehlenbeck Recreation Center

2 Our staff can help with your selections and registration You will only be able to register one family at a time If you need to register another family, you must have a second person (age 16+) with you get back in line to register the other family .

3 . Pay all fees using cash, check, money order, American Express, MasterCard, Discover or Visa .

4 Your receipt can be printed or emailed

Waiting Lists

If a course is full you may ask to have your name placed on the waiting list for that course at no cost Staff will notify, in waiting list order, the persons on the list and offer the opportunity to register for the course Payment for the course will be required at the time of registration If you are contacted from a wait list and enrolled for that course, you will be removed from any wait lists for similar courses

Refunds

Please read the following refund policy for courses, programs, trips and camps.

Program refunds will be granted when requested two weeks or more prior to the start date of the program Refunds requested less than two weeks prior to the start date of the program will not be granted unless the vacated spot is filled. If the spot is filled, a refund less a $5 administrative fee will be granted

Medical refunds requested with a doctor’s note prior to the start date of the program will be granted in full . A prorated refund will be granted for a medical refund request received during or within one month of the program’s ending date .

Trip refunds cannot be granted for non-recoverable costs Trip refund requests will not be granted unless the vacated spot is filled. For trips provided by outside travel agencies, the travel agency refund and cancellation policies will apply

Outdoor Camp refunds will not be granted due to the following reasons: weather conditions, summer heat, sunburn, a camper’s behavior, absence from camp, or camp assignments Parents are responsible for making sure children are registered in the correct camp program or session If an error is found after registration, please call and have it corrected prior to the camp season

MAKE-UP POLICY

Recreation Classes: Plano Parks and Recreation is happy to accommodate make-ups for classes cancelled by the instructor or facility staff . The instructor will inform you of the day and time available for the make-up . If that day and time does not work with your schedule, or we are unable to accommodate a make-up, we will gladly refund you the amount paid for the cancelled class

We will also provide a refund for a class missed due to illness upon receipt of a doctor’s note within one month of the program’s ending date For all other absences, a make-up or refund is not available .

Aquatics Classes: For classes cancelled by facility staff due to inclement weather or facility constraints, we will gladly refund you the amount paid for the cancelled class Due to limited pool space and the Plano Parks and Recreation Department’s commitment to safety and quality instruction, makeups for missed classes are not available .

We are committed to compliance with the ADA and providing reasonable accommodations to facilitate program participation . Become A Member

Memberships provide access to all recreation centers and swimming pools in the Plano Parks and Recreation system. Children two years and younger are admitted free and must always be supervised by an adult. Children younger than seven must be actively supervised by an adult. Proof of residency or employment is required prior to purchasing a membership. Memberships are not required to register for recreation classes and activities. Please see Memberships and Fees below for all membership options.

General Information

Membership cards are issued at Carpenter Park Recreation Center, Liberty Recreation Center, Oak Point Recreation Center and Tom Muehlenbeck Recreation Center during open hours. Members are required to show this card for use of the: game room, gyms, racquetball/squash courts, swimming pool, track, and weight area.

Annual Membership

Annual membership payments are non-refundable. Proof of residency is required to receive the Plano resident rate. The annual membership must be paid all at once by American Express, Discover, Mastercard, Visa, cash or check.

Month to Month Membership

The month to month membership is paid in monthly installments using American Express, Mastercard, Visa or Discover and can be cancelled at any time. Proof of residency is required to receive the Plano resident rate.

Sam Johnson Recreation Center Membership

This annual membership is good only at Sam Johnson Recreation Center for Adults 50+.

Corporate Memberships

Annual corporate memberships are available to Plano companies who sign 5 or more employees up at the same time on a corporate account. Price is $155 per adult and must be paid in full when registering.

Health Insurance Memberships

We accept Active & Fit, Silver Sneakers, Silver & Fit, Renew Active, and PRIME memberships for qualifying individuals. Consult your health insurance provider or Medicare to determine eligibility. A qualifying health insurance membership card and valid ID must be presented when requesting a membership.

Sam Johnson Recreation Center for Adults 50+

Kitchen Volunteers - From preparing lunches in the Gazebo Café to greeting patrons, there are many ways volunteers support the Sam Johnson Recreation Center. Volunteers don’t have to be 50 to serve and can apply anytime throughout the year. Contact Morgan at 972-941-7627 for more information.

Foster Pets for Plano Animal Services

It’s Kitten Season! Warm weather brings kittens, and Plano Animal Services is in need of additional foster volunteers who will care for animals until they are old enough to adopt. The devotion, care, and socialization given during this time greatly increases the animal’s chance to be adopted by a loving home. Training is provided, no previous experienced required. If you have time and space to care for an animal in your home, email Morgan at mgreengriffin@plano.gov for additional information.

Good Neighbor Volunteer Program

Neighborhood Services is looking for volunteers for their Good Neighbor Volunteer Program. If you love lending a helping hand by working on minor exterior home repairs, trimming trees, landscaping and more, then contact us about becoming a neighborhood builder. If you enjoy engaging with residents, empowering others, collaborating with a team to find solutions, sharing knowledge and bringing awareness, then contact us about becoming a neighborhood ambassador. We are recruiting residents to volunteer their time to assist residents with exterior property maintenance tasks, mentor a neighborhood to help them form a neighborhood group, and/or share valuable information about Neighborhood Services at an outreach event. Recreational And Social Opportunities For Individuals With Disabilities

Adapted Recreation programs are designed to meet the needs of individuals with disabilities from 12 months to over 60 years of age. Adapted Recreation staff is composed of certified special education teachers, certified paraprofessionals, and volunteers, who are on hand for most programs to assist and encourage the individuals as needed. Any individuals requiring assistance with matters not directly related to the activities and needing assistance with toileting and feeding must bring a chaperone/aide. Dance

CREATIVE MOVEMENT (5-14 YRS)

Creative movement is a fun introduction to basic dance terminology and technique for individuals with special needs. To help this age group thrive we intersperse creative dance games that teach skills and steps, with traditional exercises to grow their dance experience.

DANCE CLUB (15 YRS & UP)

Come join us for a fun night of dancing along with other fun activities each month. We will meet at Sam Johnson Recreation Center, 401 W. 16th Street. The goal of this program is to increase socialization, self-esteem, and physical exercise. Light refreshments are provided. Parents are asked to pick up participants rather than arrange for public transportation.
