News and Announcements Greetings About PNW Key Club 101 The Eliminate Project Meet your New Lt. G Division 33 DCM Dance to Eliminate Divisional T-Shirts The ESPRESSO DCON Preferred Charities Contact Information

News and Announcements The Divisional t-shirt design is set! It will be part of the spirit pack for DCON. If you want to buy just a shirt, it will be $10. If you plan to attend DCON, it is REQUIRED that you order a spirit pack! The cost for that will be announced soon. Order forms will be available soon as well. The January DCM is currently still in planning. It is most likely going to be in the last week of this month. It will be hosted by Todd Beamer Key Club at their school. One hint I’ll give you all about the DCM is that you should all wear tennis shoes to it. You’re going to need it. District Convention registration is due this month. I highly recommend new incoming officers to attend. It will be an amazing experience full of icebreakers, workshops, and service! Again, the registration is due this month on the 24th! Hope to see you all there! Stay updated with the Pacific Northwest District of Key Club and subscribe to their emailing list! You will get email updates about PNW Key Club. IEUTENANT GOVERNOR

Hey Krakens, Happy New Year! I hope you all had a great Winter Break and I hope that 2015 has treated you all well thus far! Now that we’re all back in school, that means Key Club meetings have started up again! I’ve enjoyed all the club meetings I’ve visited over the past month. You guys are awesome! First off, I want to give a shoutout to all the clubs who have been volunteering over Winter Break. It warms my heart knowing how dedicated you all are even during times when school’s closed. Also, congratulations to Federal Way High School’s Andrea Diep for being elected the 2015-2016 Lieutenant Governor! I know that you will lead the division well and take good care of it. I am so excited to see what she has in store for the division. Now that it’s January, that means that the DCON registration deadline is coming up soon! If you haven’t already, find members who are interested in attending, and if you want to go, then by all means, if your club lets you, ATTEND! It’s an amazing experience that you will never forget. You get to meet tons of people, go to amazing and helpful workshops, hear speakers, and go to a big dance on the final night! I would suggest for clubs to finish collecting and submitting registration materials by January 19th so that you will meet the deadline of January 24th! I hope you all enjoy this newsletter. If you have any questions, contact me at any time! In Love and Service,

Greg Park Division 33 Lieutenant Governor Pacific Northwest District Key Club International

NTERNATIONAL TRUSTEE Happy 2015, Pacific-Northwest! I’m so glad that we have finally made it. After a swamped first semester of school, a myriad of Key Club events, and a relaxing holiday vacation, I’m sure you all are so excited to welcome in the New Year. A lot of people see this this month as a time of resolutions. However, I think it can better be characterized as a time to reflect and look forward to the future. What awesome things have you all done so far with your time in Key Club? How will you make the most of the rest of this year? Thus far, I have seen Key Clubbers do some spectacular things. Shout out to Tasmia Ahmed and her division for collecting 70 gift cards for sex trafficked survivors in Portland. Shout out to the Communications Committee for completely renovating the face of the Pacific-Northwest district website. Shout out to Kevin Zhang for bringing the “bowl” to #palabowlo. These Key Clubbers have inspired us to do great things. What’s even more exciting is that there’s still so much to come. Whether it’s participating in “Service to Infinity and Beyond” at the 2015 District Convention or finally reaching our goal for The Eliminate Project, the coming months have much in store. Don’t feel the need to make new resolutions; your passion for service, leadership, and camaraderie will naturally take the district to new heights this 2015. In terms of the international level, there are several items we can anticipate together. First of all, 2015 is our year to eliminate maternal/neonatal tetanus (MNT) from the face of the planet! We’re taking things to a whole new level. The International Board has its own personal pen fundraiser (I’m bringing them to DCON!), and if all of Key Club International can raise an additional $80,000, board members will be kissing an octopus at our winter board meeting. (Yes, I’m very scared. But I do it fo’ da Eliminate!) For clarity, our winter board meeting will be held in Detroit, Michigan, from January 22 to 25, 2015. The board meeting agenda has already been posted to the Key Club website. If you have any questions, or if you’d like me to bring an additional topic to the board, don’t hesitate to reach out. Finally, with this year’s International Convention swiftly approaching, it’s definitely an event we can eagerly look forward to. Held from June 24 to 28, 2015, in Indianapolis, the home of Key Club International headquarters, this will be an experience you don’t want to miss. As it is the 100th anniversary of Kiwanis, a lot of our programs will be held in conjunction with Circle K and Kiwanis members, making for a whopping estimate of 12,000 attendees. We have some awesome events planned; we’ll be renting out an entire street of Indianapolis, Hellogoodbye will be performing, and we’ll be surrounded by tons of fun things to do (i.e. free museums, bikes to ride around the city, zoos, etc.). It’s the event of a lifetime, so start fundraising and planning now! Indeed, 2014 may have brought much positivity and joy –especially in Key Club International— but I’m sure 2015 can offer even more. Have a great year, everyone! Yours in service, Tashrima Hossain International Trustee Georgia, KIWIN'S, & Pacific-Northwest

MNT results when tetanus spores, which are present in soil everywhere, enter the bloodstream. It is mainly caused by a lack of access to sanitary birthing conditions, unclean instruments used to cut the umbilical cord and unclean post-partum cord care. Once the disease is contracted, the fatality rate can be as high as 100 percent in underserved areas. Most mothers and newborns who die of tetanus live in areas of Africa, South Asia and East Asia, where many woman are poor, having little access to health care, have unlimited information about safe delivery procedures and continue harmful cord care practices. Every 11 minutes, 1 baby will die due to MNT. It only takes $1.80 to save a mother and her future children.

Meet your 2015-2016 Lt. G!

Andrea Diep, FWHS

"Hi Krakens! First things first, it's a honor to be your LTG for the upcoming year and thank you so much for electing me to represent you all. While I am in love with key club, I'm also involved in my school's Speech and Debate team (but I don't debate so please don't ask me about arguing) and during the spring and summer you'll probably find me biking around Washington. I'm a huge fan of corny pick up lines and puns make my heart happy. I'm so excited to get to know you all throughout this year & please feel free to reach out whenever you want. I'm here for you guys!“
