Greetings Hey Division 33! The 10th of the month is creeping up so you all know what that means, newsletter time! I hope this issue helps you with your needs or questions. If you ever need to contact me, my contact info is in the back of the newsletter. My first month as a Lt. G has been a blast! You guys are seriously the best. I hope to see more of you getting involved in your community and school. You guys really have been great and treating me well. I love you all. It’s almost the end of the school year which means all the seniors are leaving. It’s a bittersweet feeling for the seniors but I still wish to see you guys involved with the community. There’s many opportunities after high school to get involved with Kiwanis. There’s always the opportunity to join Circle K if your college offers it. There’s also Kiwanis once you graduate from high school! I would also like to dedicate this issue of my newsletter to Dom Cooks. Dom has made a huge impact on the community in a number of ways. He not only taught us that we can face big problems, but also to embrace each and every single day. I speak on behalf of everyone in the division and would like to send my condolences to the Cooks family and also to Decatur High School. Dom is truly missed and are still praying for his family and school. We love you Dom. I hope you all enjoy this newsletter. Like mentioned earlier, my contact info is in the back of the newsletter. In Love and Service,
Greg Park

Dear Pacific Northwest District, The ending of District Convention is always hard, but it also marks the beginning of another Key Club year, and another year of service. If you have not already met me, I am Lisa Antonio, and I am honored to have the chance to serve as your District Governor for the next year. I am so privileged to be leading such a diverse and enthusiastic district, and I am excited to start building upon our strengths and creating new solutions for our district’s weaknesses. In this upcoming year I want to focus on clubs and members. I want to make sure clubs are thriving and increasing not only membership, but active membership. I want each club member to know the District Board is there to serve the members. I am inspired by the love and passion each one of you has for the act of service. Keep up the amazing work, and remember that ever single minute you spend serving the community is changing the world around you in a positive way. Remember to always keep service in your heart, and no matter what is going on in life, if you are serving, you can always find love. Keep in mind that in hard times, you always have your Key Club family to lean back on, and depend on. Know that the things you have done in Key Club, and the people’s lives you have touched along the way will never be forgotten. Once again I am so grateful to have the chance to serve all of you. I am looking forward to meeting all of you, and if you have any questions please feel free to contact me via email, Facebook, or telephone! In Love and Service,
Lisa Antonio
Pacific Northwest District Key Club Governor

What Makes Key Club Unique? Key Club is the largest high school service organization in the world, but what makes it so special and what enables it to continue to grow? It can’t be the ability to volunteer because no matter where you go, you can find a way to give back to your community. You can even volunteer globally through UNICEF, Rustic Pathways, and other worldwide organizations. What makes Key Club is different from every other organization out there is the tight-knit community that it creates between people who live on opposite sides of a city, a state, a nation, or the world. To fully seize the opportunities that Key Club provides high school students, it’s important for everyone to be involved with their divisions, their district, and international. You can get involved with Key Club International by attending Key Club events, joining social media sites that are created to link together Key Clubbers from all over the world, and talking to your district leaders! In terms of the division, your Lieutenant Governor should be having Divisional Council Meetings every so often in order to bring the entire division together. Your division is composed of the schools around you that have Key Clubs. At these meetings, take advantage of the close distance between you and the other Key Clubbers in attendance. Arrange meet-ups, socials, and joint volunteer projects to increase your impact on your community and meet people who you otherwise would have not had the chance to meet! In terms of your district, the Pacific Northwest District is composed of all of the Key Clubs in Alaska, Washington, and Oregon, as well as some of the clubs in western Idaho, northern California, and Canada. There are rallies in the summer for all Key Clubbers in a specific region to attend and meet new people. At these rallies, you’re bound to have an amazing time while also learning about Key Club International through educational forums. Each year, PNW also hosts District Convention: an exciting weekend in which Key Clubbers from all over the district unite to celebrate the end of a wonderful year of service and prepare for the next one. If you have the chance to attend District Convention, I highly recommend it! Yours in service, Roshni Chandwani International Trustee Roshni.chandwani.kc@gmail.com

About PNW “The Pacific Northwest District is geographically the largest district in Key Club International. The district spans from Alaska to northern California: with British Columbia, Yukon Territory, Washington, Oregon, and even the “panhandle” of Idaho in between. With over 40 divisions, this district contains about 330 Key Clubs.” Division 33 serves the Auburn and Federal Way community under 7 schools. They are Auburn High School, Auburn Mountainview High School, Auburn Riverside High School, Decatur High School, Federal Way High School, Thomas Jefferson High School, and Todd Beamer High School. Our division is known for our amazing spirit and our huge Korean population. The mascot for our division is a kraken and our colors are blue and gold. There is never a dull moment when everyone in the division gets together, which is what makes our division so unique. Everyone is dedicated and is always willing to serve the community no matter what.

Structure Club Key Clubs are established in a high school or equivalent institution, or a communitybased club may be chartered. Elected officers can include president, on or more vice presidents, secretary, treasurer, editor and one director from each class. Division Each district is divided into territories called divisions, made up of various clubs. Each division has a lieutenant governor, a student leader who carries out the district’s policies and provides support to the District A district is sometimes defined by state or nation and tends to match a similar Kiwanis district. Each district is chaired by a governor, elected by delegates at the annual district convention International Key Club International encompasses all clubs within the group’s 33 organized districts and in foreign countries that are not included in any specific district. Key Club International is led by its international board, which is comprised of a president, vice president and 11 trustees, all students and active Key Club members.

Congratulations to Ashley Phan and Juliet Yu for being appointed as the division’s Secretary and Editor! These two will help me throughout my term with divisional events and activities. If I am ever unavailable, these are the best two resources to contact. Again, congratulations you two!

The Eliminate Project MNT results when tetanus spores, which are present in soil everywhere, enter the bloodstream. It is mainly caused by a lack of access to sanitary birthing conditions, unclean instruments used to cut the umbilical cord and unclean post-partum cord care. Once the disease is contracted, the fatality rate can be as high as 100 percent in underserved areas. Most mothers and newborns who die of tetanus live in areas of Africa, South Asia and East Asia, where many woman are poor, having little access to health care, have unlimited information about safe delivery procedures and continue harmful cord care practices.
The Numbers? 1 baby dies every 9 minutes from tetanus The Cost? $1.80 protects 1 woman and her future babies The Results? Only 25 countries remain with MNT.

I highly recommend Razia’s Shadow. It’s an album from Forgive Durden, a band from Seattle. It was released way back in 2008, but, it is still one of my favorites. I’m not a big fan of musicals, but this album really has been something that I can listen to constantly. It features members from bands such as Saves the Day, Panic! at the Disco, Say Anything, The Matches, mewithoutYou, Portugal. The Man, The Hush Sound, An Angle, and The Dear Hunter. Overall, I think this album is very well done. It amazes me how this was created by a small, independent band. “The album tells the story of a world divided in two by the selfish actions of a powerful and egotistical, yet insecure angel. After generations of darkness, the world is eventually brought back together by the love and sacrifice of a couple brave enough to fulfill their destinies.” I wasn’t sure how to fill in this page because I had one blank page so I decided to go with this.
