General Information Schedule: The Summer 2014 program runs June 9-August 1. Classes are available from 9:00 a.m.-4:00 p.m. Extended care is available from 7:30-9:00 a.m. and 4:00-6:00 p.m. • Spanish Immersion will begin June 9 through July 3. • No Classes on July 4, 2014 Registration: Online registration begins late February at www.parktudor.org. Class size is limited and applications are processed on a firstcome, first-served basis. Costs: Tuition is payable in full with your application. Accommodations may be made in the form of a credit withdrawal up to 30 days prior to the first class session. Withdrawals less than 30 days prior to the first class will not receive a refund. Courses are subject to cancellation if there is insufficient enrollment. If this should happen, you will be notified and given the opportunity to choose a new course or to receive a complete refund. Before & After Care Options: Morning: 7:30-9:00 a.m. $6 per day/$25 per week Evenings: 4:00-6:00 p.m. $11 per day/$50 per week
PreK-5th Grade Arrival: Students arriving before 8:55 a.m. must to go to the Extended Day classroom (LS Rm 133) until the start of class. Monday Mornings: A parent/guardian should walk each child into the school to locate the child’s classroom. Each main doorway of the buildings will contain courses and room numbers. In addition, you should receive an email the weekend before the course begins from the instructor stating any additional information you may need. Dismissal: 12:00 p.m. Please meet your child in his/her classroom. 4:00 p.m. Cub Camp, S3 & MS students may be met in their classroom unless otherwise instructed by teacher. Camp PT: (K-5 students staying from 12:00-4:00 p.m.) Camp PT students will be placed on a team. Each Team will be assigned a classroom in the Lower School where they will meet at the conclusion of their 12:00 class and where they will be dismissed at 4:00. Counselors will greet you at dismissal on Monday to direct you to your child’s assigned room. *Students who are not picked up by 4:00 will be sent to LS133 for aftercare.
Absolutely no student should arrive prior to 7:30 a.m. Students who are not picked up by 6:00 p.m. will be charged an additional fee. Lunch: Monday-Thursday: All-day students should bring a lunch that does not require refrigeration. On Friday, lunch will be provided for all children during our celebration cookout!

Cub Camp PT’s premiere summer camp just for 3 & 4 year olds! Park Tudor is the place to be during the summer if you are a Panther Cub! Cub Camp is designed to create a rich and playful learning environment for our youngest campers. The camp emphasizes creative exploration, imaginative play and social skills. A low teacher-to-student ratio helps to create a safe and welcoming environment for our newest campers.
Cubs learn and play as they rotate through theme-based centers designed to provide a week of rich, diverse learning and fun! Halfday campers go home prior to lunch and full day campers stay for lunch, rest-time, weekly sprinkler/water play, and occasional theme-related field trips. *All campers must be 3 by the start of the program and must be potty trained.
Lunch: Cubs staying for a full day will need to pack a lunch Monday through Thursday. On Friday we will celebrate our week together with a cookout on Park Tudor’s Lauth Field. Mornings:

Dino Stomp!
Tap into your imagination and your creativity and join us for a week of recycling fun! Learn about the importance of recycling and have the opportunity to transform “trash” to “treasures.” See how aluminum and glass can be recycled into beautiful works of art and create imaginative masterpieces and jewelry of your very own. Our week will conclude with an “art exhibit” of our recycled creations. Go Green, Cubs and join us for a week of earth-friendly fun!
Grab your sunglasses and beach towels. We’re heading to the beach! This week our classroom will be transformed into a tropical oasis...CUB ISLAND! Come explore the inhabitants of our island and enjoy the relaxing and beautiful sites and sounds of the beach. Campers will engage in a variety of hands-on activities that will allow them to discover the fascinating elements of sea life. Our week will conclude with a field trip to the Broad Ripple Art Center for a picnic and “beach” adventure.
Cub Campers will travel back in time this week as they have the opportunity to explore the sights, sounds and smells of the Cretaceous period, 65 million years ago, when dinosaurs last roamed the Earth. This week is designed to spark the imagination and creativity of the children by allowing them to live in Dinoland for the week!

Let’s go Camping!
Sound the alarms! This week guarantees adventure and excitement as we learn about super heroes, real and imaginary. Discover the men and women whose job it is to protect our community and let your imagination soar as you become your very own superhero. Cubs will visit a local fire station and have the opportunity to learn about safety from guest speakers.
Are you ready for an outdoor adventure? Our classroom has been transformed into a camp site and we are ready to explore! Our young campers will learn about different housing, cultures, animals, food, and climates in the chosen camping area such as: The Southwest, The Rockies, The Adirondacks and Alaska. They will also taste many different types of s’mores and other camping goodies from several favorite recipes found around the world.

Green Thumb Cubs
Have you ever wondered what it would be like to fly among the stars? Grab your space gear and join us for a week of space exploration! In this early introduction to our Solar System, the young astronauts will fly through space while learning all about the different planets, stars and aliens. Children will create their own planets and rocket ships and learn how the earth orbits the sun. Our adventurous cubs will then blast off to the Children’s Museum to explore the space exhibit. If you love adventure, you will not want to miss this week!
Get ready to get dirty, Cubs! This week we will learn all about gardening as we engage in planting and harvesting in several area gardens. Throughout the week, campers will visit Park Tudor’s school garden and have hands-on experiences digging, planting, and observing its wonderful inhabitants. Learn what tasty treats you can create from a harvest, paint still life pictures from items gathered from the garden, and just learn how much fun it is to get your hands dirty while you explore!

Calling all animal lovers! Let’s explore the habitats of animals great and small. We will begin with creatures native to our Indiana land and expand our horizons with a trip to visit the animals of the Indianapolis Zoo. Join us as we learn about a variety of animals and the places that they call home.
Crouching Tigers $75 Week 2 or Week 6 12:00 p.m. - 12:30 p.m.
The Crouching Tigers program is a special handson program that introduces your child to the martial arts. Combining games, stories, and life-skills, the program brings a fun, exciting, and educational fitness and martial arts program that educates children on many important lessons. With a fast paced curriculum, children stay focused and learning throughout the entire 30 minute class. All children participating in the morning Park Tudor Cub Camp will be escorted to class at 12:00. Students staying for afternoon Cub Camp will join their classmates at 12:30 for lunch. Note: Children new to Crouching Tigers will be assessed an additional $20 fee the week of class to cover t-shirt, belt, parent handbook, and gear bag.

Option 1:
Grades K-6 Afternoons at Park Tudor are all about YOU! Bring a lunch* and join your friends at Camp PT, where the fun never ends! On Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays we’ll head to the JCC for an afternoon of water fun. Tuesday and Thursdays take on a traditional camp theme. Join your friends as you rotate through an assortment of new activities each week. Group games, water fun, crafts, sports and much, much, more! Afternoons are about team building, friendship and adventure. When you see the fun we are having, you’ll want to stay all day. Afternoons: 1:00-4:00 p.m.

* Students will need to bring a sack lunch Monday-Thursday. On Friday they will be treated to a celebration cookout!

Grades 1-6 Ignite your child’s natural sense of curiosity while strengthening their critical thinking and problem solving skills during our NEW Sensational Summer Science Camp (S3), dedicated entirely to science! Students will be grouped in classes for Grades 1-3 and Grades 4-6. 1:00 p.m.-4:00 p.m. S3 students enrolled in a morning class will join our Camp PT students during lunch and will be escorted to S3 at 1:00. Please be sure to pack a sack lunch. Afternoons: 1:00-4:00 p.m.

Grades K-5 Larra Holding Dance Teacher - Park Tudor School June 9-13 9:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. $140 Jazz and Hip Hop Dance is fun, high energy, and upbeat! Your young dancer will begin each class with a thorough warm up taught to fast, bass-pumping music. Dancers learn to isolate their bodies with control, precision, and rhythm. Students will learn choreographed combinations, have the opportunity to choreograph their own moves and are encouraged to freestyle and just groove to the music. At the end of camp, parents are invited to attend a 30-minute informal showing at the studio where students show off their moves and perform a short routine in unison. Students will be placed on a “team” with their friends and adventure guides (aka camp counselors) and will take part in theme-related activities each day.

This week, campers will create their own story and drawings and then transform them into their very own book. Grades 2-8 July 7-27 $600 Camp - July 7-11, July 14-18, 9:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. Rehearsals - July 21, 22, 23, 6:00 p.m. - 9:30 p.m. Performances - July 24, 25, 26, 7:30 p.m. and July 27, 2:30 p.m. Academy students will join our Summer Stock cast members in the spotlight as we perform the classic musical, The King and I. Students will gain confidence as they prepare for small roles in this main-stage production. For the first two weeks campers will meet daily and work with Summer Stock Stage artistic staff to learn music and choreography. You will also be exposed to the broader world of musical theater. The third week is “tech week” for The King and I, and Academy members will be rehearsing Monday through Wednesday in the evenings. Performances will be Thursday, July 24 - Sunday, July 27 in the Ayres Auditorium. There will be no daytime camp the week of July 21. All rehearsals are mandatory.

For the highly interested student, this workshop will cover the basics of movement, singing, and acting. For students who desire to perform one day with Summer Stock Stage, this is the perfect opportunity to hone your audition skills. Safe Sitter can teach you the skills to do this important job and do it well! Becoming a Safe Sitter means you will gain confidence and learn how to handle situations that may happen on the job when babysitting. The Safe Sitter course includes the following curriculum: Babysitting as a Business, Success on the Job, Child Care Essentials, Safety for the Sitter, Injury Management, Preventing Problem Behavior, Care of Choking Infant or Choking Child, Basic Infant and Child CPR, Preventing Injuries and Behavior Management. Use iPads and Macs to film and edit your own movies, animate characters using stop-motion animation techniques and even if you’ve never had any musical training, learn how to use copyrightfree music and digital instruments to produce professional sounding music. Learn Printmaking
Grades 6-8 Tracey Petrov - Park Tudor Art Teacher June 16-20 1:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m. $155 Have you ever wanted to print your own t-shirt? In this class students will learn relief printing and be introduced to silkscreen printing. The class will start with a relief linoleum print, and finish with a silkscreen print on a t-shirt. Relief printing is a way of making multiple prints from one block by carving away areas of the block, adding ink and printing what is left raised on the surface. The printed image is the reverse of what is on the block. Silkscreen is a multiple print technique using a stencil on a woven mesh surface to transfer the design. The students will learn to silkscreen using cut paper screens and wax resist to design and print their own t-shirt.

Grades 6-8 Tracey Petrov - Park Tudor Art Teacher June 23-27 1:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m. $155 Batik is the art of wax resist on fabric originating in Java Indonesia where it has been an ancient tradition. Starting with a colorless cotton fabric, students will learn to trace designs in wax and apply dyes to create a one-of-a-kind piece. In this class students will learn to use melted wax as a way to make designs on fabric. They will use brushes, stamps and the traditional tjanting tool, a pen-like tool with a well at the tip to apply the wax to the fabric. Students will learn several techniques to apply color to the fabric.
Anatomy Study: Basic Dissection
Grades 6-8 Sue Taylor - Park Tudor Science Teacher June 23-27 9:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. $170 Explore anatomy through several dissection exercises. Students will conduct both virtual and actual specimen dissections in this section. We will look at an owl pellet, cow’s eye, earthworm and frog in this laboratory-based session. Students will learn several techniques with dye colors to create a variety of effects on fabric to create a final piece. This class will give students information about silk fabrics, brushes and techniques for applying the paints to the fabrics. 1 credit $450 June 9-27 Sarah Rogers 9:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. Peter Smith 1:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m. Etymology and Latin studies are widely regarded as two of the most useful ways for purposeful students to prepare for the verbal and written portions of the SAT exam. The sophomore or junior year is when we have greatest demand for this intensive summer course in which Latinate roots, prefixes and suffixes of English words typically found on the SAT test are studied. Students are taught strategies to help break up more complex words, using their knowledge of word parts to aid detection and recall of their meaning. The class is instructed in an engaging manner, through the use of diverse and sound teaching strategies to aid word knowledge, expansion, and retention. *Park Tudor students may earn 1 PT credit for this class. International Relations
1 credit $450 July 7-25 9:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. Peter Smith Park Tudor US School Social Studies Teacher This class provides a critical assessment of the major theories and concepts that define international relations as a field of study. The class also examines the historical evolution of international systems, with a focus on the modern state system. Special attention is given to the processes and institutions (for example international law, United Nations, NGOs, international civil society) that contribute to conflict resolution and international cooperation. Park Tudor’s participation in The Model United Nations program is also used as a mechanism for understanding the mission of the United Nations organization in international relations. The cultural aspects of the field of international relations are also addressed. In this light, several literary and filmic sources are applied. This class is open to all students in grades 10-12 interested in international relations, global affairs and/or Model United Nations. *Park Tudor students may earn 1 PT credit for this class. Are you considering auditioning for college theater programs or other performance opportunities? Then this is the workshop for you. Focus will be on improving all aspects of golfers’ games through specifically designed lesson plans. Campers are urged to bring their own clubs if they have them, although TGA will also provide equipment.

Immersion is the secret to learning a foreign language. We are proud to offer again this summer a global Spanish immersion program for Lower School and Middle School students.
Why Spanish? Spanish is, after English, the second most widely spoken language in the world. It is spoken by over 400 million people, and it is the official language of 22 countries. In the US alone, it is spoken by an estimated 50 million people with the Latino population as the fastest growing minority in the country.

Summer Stock Stage Summer Stock Stage provides students throughout central Indiana with a professional, positive, and premiere musical theater experience focusing on vocal, dramatic and dance performance. Students share their creative talents in an inspiring and disciplined environment that builds confidence, promotes teamwork, reinforces listening and focus skills, and enhances self-esteem. Summer Stock Stage offers summer camps and workshops, as well as after school classes. For the summer of 2014, there are two educational programs - Summer Stock Academy for students in grades 2-8 and Audition Intensive for middle and high school students. Summer Stock Academy Grades 2-8 July 7-27 $600 Camp - July 7-11, July 14-18, 9:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. Rehearsals - July 21, 22, 23, 6:00 p.m. - 9:30 p.m. Performances - July 24, 25, 26, 7:30 p.m. and July 27, 2:30 p.m. Academy students will join our Summer Stock cast members in the spotlight as we perform the classic musical, The King and I. Students will gain confidence as they prepare for small roles in this main-stage production. For the first two weeks campers will meet daily and work with Summer Stock Stage artistic staff to learn music and choreography. You will also be exposed to the broader world of musical theater. The third week is “tech week” for The King and I, and Academy members will be rehearsing Monday through Wednesday in the evenings. Performances will be Thursday, July 24 - Sunday, July 27 in the Ayres Auditorium. There will be no daytime camp the week of July 21. All rehearsals are mandatory.
