Halloween at the High

Fall Rally 4

Welcome! Welcome to the first newsletter of the school year. My name is Ellie Xu, and I will be your editor for this service year. Please look forward to one newsletter per month, and I hope you will read them all. The theme of this newsletter is “dedication. I would like to acknowledge the dedication of our key clubbers that spend precious free time on service. Their selflessness in helping others, and their willingness to give every event their best effort is truly heartwarming. In order to recognize some of these key clubbers, one a

Member of Month will be highlighted per volume for their exemplary contributions. However, this not only applies to individual key clubbers, but our club as a whole. We should applaud those members that endured the frigid rain to represent our key club at Fall Rally. We should celebrate our achievement in putting together Halloween at the High. Above all else, we should high five each other for being an .

active member of key club, and dedicating ourselves to service. Yours truly, Ellie Xu Editor

Fall Rally ‘

Rally Recap By Stephanie Shen President

It was cloudy, windy, and pouring. But despite the inclement weather, the Key Clubbers who attended Fall Rally still made the most out of the event. On Sunday, October 9th, forty dedicated Key Club members showed their Key Club spirit and took part in the 2016 Fall Rally event at Six Flags Great Adventure, the largest gathering of Key Clubbers from around the district. We listened to speeches from the district board, special guests, and of course, the International President (here comes the Sun!). Unfortunately, the weather drove off most of the audience by the time the spirit competition rolled around, so only the PHS officers and 3 other enthusiastic Key Clubbers (shout out to Marc, Rahul, and Albert) were left to represent all of division 20 by screaming our hearts out and holding the poster our lovely historian, Alice, made.

We lost, but we did the best eight people could do against an entire stadium. To shield us from the weather, we spent a lot of our time at the indoor arcade with the other Key Clubbers from around the state, where we were too occupied playing crane games to do anything else. The weather also called for a good "indoor squad-bonding session" where we were able to spend quality time with our friends in the food court and talk about whatever it is teenagers talk about. Eventually, we all went our own separate ways to go on the rides when the weather cleared out. It was rainy and cold but we still stuck it out! A huge thank you to all the Key Clubbers who showed up and made the most of it :) Nothing could've made our Key Club prouder!

Halloween at the High Halloween Recap

Deck the Halls

By Ellie Xu Editor

By Alice Limanova Historian

On Thursday, October 28th, high schoolers transformed Par High into a spooky extravaganza of fake spider webs and whimsical decorations.

The decorating committee was responsible for transforming the plain hallways into “hall-oween-ways. Thanks to the dedicated key clubbers in the decorating committee, we were able to fulfill this goal! Many of the decorations were donated by members, but we also created Halloween decorations of our own by cutting out Halloween themed shapes, such as rats or bats. Creating these wall hangings was tedious and difficult, and we also started the actual decorating process hours before the event. The decorating committee was a vital part of Halloween at the High, and they really transformed the school for the night in the best possible way!

The Key Club was responsible for placing hallway decorations, creating trick-or-treating rooms, setting up a haunted house, and supervising assorted games. All the time and effort invested in this Halloween night was well rewarded with the screams of terrified children, the thumping of full candy buckets, and the laughter of delighted players.

Haunted House By Udhay Khullar Treasurer

The PHS Key Club had another wildly successful Haunted House this year at the annual Halloween at the High event. Spearheaded by officers Samantha Lee and Udhay Khullar, as well as CoChair Albert Chen, the haunted house succeeded in being one of the largest attractions of the Halloween at the High event. Successfully resulting in 6 children crying, it is safe to say the Haunted House was one of the spookiest parts of the night. Special thanks for out to Peter Tran, Priyam Patel, Jeet Vaishnavi, and Ethan Fang for helping out for the full two hours above and beyond their respective shifts. Thanks to everyone that helped!

Trick-or-Treat By Stephanie Shen President

Happy belated Halloween! This was my third year being a part of the trick or treating committee and it was as successful as ever. My committee codirector Nick Lim and I gathered a group of enthusiastic Key Clubbers and they got into a group of 3-4 people. In those groups, they stood outside a designated door and gave candy to children that passed by. It was extremely rewarding seeing our members make little kids so happy!

Fun and Games By Ellie Xu Editor

This year’s Games Committee transformed the spacious gym into a Halloween carnival with activities such as: bowling, bean bag toss, potato sack race, and mummy wrapping. There was nothing more satisfying then seeing the children run around eagerly from station to station, laughing. A big thanks to all the key clubbers that made this night possible!

Member of the Month This month’s Member of the Month is none other than junior Marc Hoeltge. Although he only[Grab joined Key Club this year, he has proven his your reader’s attention with a great quote from the document or dedication to the club through his participation and spirit. He was the use this space to emphasize a key point. To place of this text box only one to wear a blinding shade orange in honor of Hunger Week, anywhere on the page, just drag it.] he dutifully visited a day care despite his dislike of young children, he withstood the rain during the spirit competition, he donated twenty cans at Fall Rally, he was the co-chair for the Halloween at the High Games Committee, and he stayed overtime to do more than his share for the Games Committee. Congratulations Marc, and thank you for your dedication.
