WELCOME

TO EVERY ONE EVERY DAY What an amazing Summer we’ve all just had together! People across the borough are now in business together, meeting in shops to share ideas and enjoy each others company, kids are playing and picking up new skills, neighbours are connecting, bees are buzzing, chickens are clucking, plants are being harvested and flowers are growing. The Makerspace has transformed and over 200 residents have been introduced to the Warehouse and machines, ready to start collaborating, co-working and developing new skills!! The Autumn Programme focuses on making -- all the things we do together to make our borough a great place. From cooking meals together, to making things together, to trading knowledge and skills. Are you ready for baking, cooking, creating, fixing, reading, playing, good conversation, painting, building, planting, sewing, sharing, making, talking, repairing and so much more?

We’re an organisation working to make it easier for everyone to participate in making their community a better place to live, work, be young, grow older and have fun. There are so many projects to get involved with that have been co-created with residents, and we are sure you will be inspired by the range of ideas, as well as the energy being shown by the amazing people living and working in Barking and Dagenham.

We’re having another festival at The Warehouse! Did you make it last year? Local residents, organisations and people from across the UK are coming together again for We Make Our City festival a day of inspirational talks, skill sharing, networking and practical workshops! Contact your local Neighbourhood Team if you would like to get involved!

In each of these activities, we build friendships, practice healthy living, make places more beautiful, and more. As the borough grows and changes in the upcoming years, how do you want to participate in shaping the borough? What are your ideas and ambitions for your neighbourhoods?

How does Every One Every Day work? Practical hands on ideas – not lots of meetings

Support for getting things going – no complicated processes

Every One Every Day builds on the ‘hands on’ projects that people have been creating over the last few years in their own neighbourhoods. These types of projects welcome people from all walks of life.

We welcome you to suggest ideas you would like to grow together with friends and neighbours. This project will give the support you need to bring you ideas to life quickly.

These projects include: The team will make things very simple - including: • Find you useful spaces for the projects (kitchens, workshops storage spaces etc.)

• Sharing skills, spaces and resources. • Families working and playing together. • Batch cooking and community meals.

• Supplying materials and equipment for practical activities - no form filling for grants.

• Food growing and tree planting.

• By arranging insurances and health and safety.

• Trading, making and repairing.

• Holding festivals, workshops and business programmes.

What is Every One Every Day is about?

We have four high street shops around the borough and one large public makerspace called The Warehouse in Thames.

People pop in to have a cup of tea and share their project or collaborative business idea, working with the design team to bring new ideas for the borough to life.

Over the last 18 months the project has grown a large enthusiastic network of over 5000 local people, who are doing practical things together to make everyday life better for everyone.

So far more than 100 neighbourhood projects have started with lots of local people participating, with as much or as little support as needed, including cooking, beekeeping, growing, making, repairing and much more.

Many small things done by many people really add up, and really do make friendly, healthy and happy neighbourhoods.

Lots of wonderful things are being achieved by local people, families, friends and neighbours!

FABRIC STUDIO

The Warehouse is a place for everyone; one of the biggest shared workshops (also known as a makerspace or hackerspace) of its kind in Europe, open exclusively for residents of Barking and Dagenham. This Autumn we will have many programmed activities, training, business programmes, or you can simply pop in for a cup of tea and use the co-working space or visit the garden.

What is a makerspace? It’s a new type of workspace with lots of exciting equipment. The Warehouse will have different types of spaces and machinery, for woodwork, digital design, fashion and fabrics, for cooking in an industrial kitchen, and co-working and event spaces.

Open access

There will be no cost for using the space for Barking and Dagenham residents. Members that come to The Warehouse will be part of looking after the spaces and equipment and sharing skills within the community. They will also be involved in organising how the spaces will be used, giving as much access to as many people as possible.

Build update

The Warehouse has been under construction but is still an active space for residents to use. The work has been drawing to a close over the Summer period and the fabric and co-working areas are now joined by a CNC machine room, digital making area, woodworking area, computer terminals, learning lab (auditorium and workshop area), apiary and a ceramics workshop area!

OPEN The Plant Library project stems from a love of indoor plants, wanting more people to enjoy them and sharing with others how they can care for them. Fran and Gisele initially kicked off the project by hosting sessions where everyone could share their plants with others, swap plants or sow a seed for someone else to benefit from in the future. The Ripple Road shop houses a Plant Library corner. If you are interested in finding out more, feel free to drop into the shop or email hello@ weareeveryone.org

Barking and Dagenham has more green spaces than any Borough in London. Along with the beautiful parks, the borough also has thousands of smaller pockets of green spaces. Residents would love to see some of these green spaces brought to life with new ideas, transforming them into useful spaces for growing, learning and playing. How does Open Corners work? It couldn’t be easier. The Every One Every Day team will support residents to bring their ideas to life as quickly and as easily as possible. 1. You and another neighbour get together and decide you would like to start a project nearby.

38

2. You contact the Every One Every Day team, by phone, email, by completing the form online or by popping into your nearest shop. 3. Working with the team, the process involves: • A site visit to the space you have in mind. • Some checks will be made with the council about the space. • The Every One Every Day team supports you and helps you to arrange a design session to talk about ideas with your neighbourhood and the ideas start turning into action. Do you have a green space near you? Want to be involved in turning it into a lively social space in your neighbourhood? Email hello@weareeveryone.org to start the conversation.

This project was developed by 4 local residents (Benita, Claire, Jaha and Simran) interested in health and wellbeing. They are all practitioners in various wellness techniques and have run various trade schools before in the shops. They have now come together to explore what a collaborative business in the borough might look like. If you are a local practitioner or interested in wellbeing, feel free to email hello@weareeveryone.org or pop into one of the shops for a chat.

Discover Wellness Saturday 9 November | 2.00 - 4.00pm 55 Ripple Road, Barking, IG11 7NT Come and experience 4 sessions in 1! Everybody loves the smell of fresh bread! My name is Benita and I have a passion for baking fresh and healthy sourdough bread. It carries a lot of meaning for me. Since my brother sadly passed away 5 years ago, I started a ‘starter’ for sourdough bread: a healthy bread made with good bacteria growing and expanding with a little love. A starter is the base of what sourdough is made from. It really helped me focus as I had to look after it regularly. I would love to share my starter with others so that my brother's memory can live on through it and maybe it can help someone else. Sourdough Starter Thursday 31 October | 6.00 - 7.30pm 55 Ripple Road, Barking, IG11 7NT Come and learn how to make delicious and healthy sourdough bread from scratch! Learning through play is hugely important for a child’s development. Through play we can learn how to communicate more effectively with others, develop our creative and critical thinking skills and build self-confidence. These sessions are designed so families can make a creative space with their children and consists of 3 parts: MAKE: A fun, interactive and creative space to make things, based around the theme. PLAY: Let your imagination run wild with the items you have just made. STAY: Share some refreshments and relax with a cuppa while getting to know other families. About the Host: I’m Faiza, a local mum of a lovely little girl called Safura. She is 3, very creative and independent, and loves to learn through play!
