Start an exciting new street project
Love your trees, birds & bees
Make great places to grow up
More than 100 streets have applied to start Tomorrow Today Street projects in Barking & Dagenham. These residents will be starting several of the practical neighbourhood projects that help us live more sustainably, and also keep us more connected.
Barking and Dagenham is one of the greenest boroughs in London.
Children of all ages are a special part of Every One Every Day. Children welcome people in the shops, help to pop newspapers through letterboxes, and even share skills with one another.
See pages 12 -17 for more on Tomorrow Today Streets and how you can get involved!
If you would like to help make the borough even more beautiful, with more trees, bees and birds, come along to one of the growing sessions on pages 44 - 47, help to create the Kitchen Garden at the Every One Every Day shop in Marks Gate, or start a Rewilding project in your street.
Join the activities during Kids Camp during half term on Tuesday 26 - Thursday 28 October. More details on page 42 - 43.
“I had maybe four friends in Barking that I knew had the same interests as me, and now it’s in the hundreds. I’ve met people with all different interests, all different careers, and hobbies and pasts and people that have lived all over the world, and speak different languages and experienced different cultures, and know so many different things, and I would have never have met those people if it wasn’t for the Barking [Every One Every Day] shop.” - Barking and Dagenham resident

Love your bike
Buy beautiful planet friendly products
Share your skills & learn from others
Join one of the many weekly opportunities to learn how to ride, enjoy and fix your bike detailed on page 34.
Every One Every Day has been working with 20 young people in Barking and Dagenham over the last few months to create a new concept shop in the Heathway Shopping Centre.
Learning is one of the most exciting things we can do. It makes life more interesting, helps us build our confidence and develop our ideas. The borough is full of knowledge, skills and know-how.
Walking and cycling is one of the best ways to get healthy, make new friends and be as planet friendly as possible and there are so many opportunities across the borough!
“My best memory is the arm that is open for me just to come in, bring your ideas, show us what you want to do, and we will support you. This is what I heard, and even now I’m still hearing it …I love that — it makes you feel comfortable, accepted.” Barking and Dagenham Resident

These incredible young people have been designing and making new circular products across food, homewares and clothing in Everyone’s Warehouse in Thames Road. Come along and find out how sustainable products can transform our high streets by repairing, making and sharing things in the same spaces as buying new. Find out more about The Good House concept shop and the team that have created it on pages 18 -19.
Every One Every Day supports people to share these skills with one another, and gives us all a great excuse to meet people in a fun and relaxed atmosphere. Join us for one of the 27 Trade School sessions in this programme, all of which are listed on pages 12 - 17. There are also dozens of other learning opportunities throughout this paper.

Share your ideas & get inspired from others
Start a new collaborative business
On Saturday 6 November there is an event for sharing all our ideas of making the borough beautiful and sustainable.
Do you have creativity energy and want to channel that into new business ideas working in collaborative teams?
Hear from people about what exciting work is already underway locally in our parks and waterways, as well as hear new ideas from other residents keen to get new projects off the ground.
Find out more about the new Autumn and Spring Essential Works Programmes on pages 22 -23, where you can discover new skills and make new products in Everyone’s Warehouse for test trading in local markets and shops.
“It’s about how Every One Every Day valued each and every person — it gives you that confidence that you’re being listened to, you’re being valued.” Barking and Dagenham Resident
Do you have an idea you want to share? Find out how you can get involved on pages 28- 29 for Re:Inspire and 30 - 31 for Re:create on the Saturday 6 November for the making day in Everyone’s Warehouse.
“I like the creativity, I like the fact that I can come up with something. I like the fact that I am learning. And it pushed me to do more.” Barking and Dagenham Resident
"Participating in Every One Every Day manifests itself in happiness. Smiling more, actually saying ‘I feel more happy’. People actually expressing it in words. People looking forward to coming to the shop and being a part of the project and anticipating what’s next.” Barking and Dagenham Resident

THE NEIGHBOURHOOD SHOPS HAVE RE-OPENED!
What a year and a half it has been! It feels like so many aspects of our lives, our work, our connections and our neighbourhoods have been on hold while we grapple with the consequences of Covid-19, large and small. These have had a huge impact on all of us. It is truly a shared experience and it has left no-one untouched.
In creating this programme we are of course aware that this remains a time of great uncertainty, and there may well be difficult times ahead. People’s confidence has been knocked, their resilience tested, and they may need time, and repeated invitations, to re-emerge into social and community life.
But now, it is time to reclaim our agency, rejoin our neighbours and begin to rebuild our communities. By coming together, drawing on one another’s strength and ingenuity, and bringing our own contributions to the table we can rebuild our borough through practical participation!
That’s why this programme is a bit different to other programmes we have developed. For a start, we are asking everyone to stay safe at these activities through mask-wearing, and social distancing, and you will also be invited to book a place before attending sessions. This is so that we can ensure that we are able to maintain safe numbers, particularly for indoor activities.
This newspaper contains all you need to know about the first resident-designed and led practical participation programme for nearly two years!! These pages are packed with many opportunities for you to make, create, build, share, and learn, all for free and all made by and for the people of the borough.
And of course things may change! Please use this newspaper to plan some exciting activities for yourselves and your families this autumn, but keep a close eye on our website for updates!
BOOKING IS ESSENTIAL FOR EVERY SESSION IN THIS AUTUMN PROGRAMME In order to keep everyone safe and to keep track of the number of people in the shops we ask that you book onto the sessions you want to attend ahead of time online using Eventbrite. Booking sessions is really easy! We are listing all of the sessions taking place in the Autumn Programme on the Every One Every Day Eventbrite page. All you need to do is copy the URL below into your browser, or scan the QR code on this page and follow the link until you reach the page. When you get there all you need to do is read through the listings to find the shop name and session name for the one that you need to attend. Click on your chosen session, select ‘register’, enter your details, and hey presto, you’ve signed up! SCAN HERE TO BOOK TICKETS
If you’re having trouble signing yourself up, don’t hesitate to get in touch with the Every One Every Day team. You can find contact details for each shop on the previous page.

SHAKESPEARE'S GLOBE Presents A Midsummer Night’s Dream at The Wilds
Saturday 16 October | 6.00 - 8.00pm. Are you a fan of Shakespeare? Have you always wanted to go to the Globe Theatre but never had the opportunity? Are you interested in knowing what happens behind the scenes? This year, for the first
time in Shakespeare’s Globe history, the Touring Ensemble is travelling to Barking and Dagenham as part of The Globe’s first ever neighbourhood tour.

The sessions will be followed by a very special performance of A Midsummer Night’s Dream at The

THE KICKSTARTER’S STORIES THE STORY BEHIND THE GOOD HOUSE POP UP SHOP In May this year Every One Every Day was joined by 20 new staff members as our Kickstart Trainees in Food, Clothing or Homewares with the aim to learn how to make products and start local businesses. This government backed Kickstart programme offered part-time paid employment opportunities to young adults between 20-24 years old accessing universal credit. From differing backgrounds, but based in Barking and Dagenham, they’ve come together to develop a food, fabric and homewares business from scratch. The beginning of the programme saw the Kickstarters work in Everyone’s Warehouse in Barking, learning practical, hands-on skills in areas like recipe development, pattern making, fabric painting, plastic recycling, woodworking and pottery. Once their making skills had developed, they began to develop their own product ranges. This involved researching product types, sketching, prototyping and testing. Throughout all of this they have been learning about setting up a business, from branding and budgets to forecasting and stock
control as well as being able to work collaboratively in a team. As a whole, this group has been cohesive and long-term friendships have been made, regularly supporting each other on tasks. Over the past five months, the Kickstarters have prepared to open up their own pop up shop in the Heathway Shopping Centre, Dagenham on Friday 15th October, running for four weeks. They have worked together to develop their own planet-friendly products, design the pop up space, source from responsible and ethical suppliers and other makers, and orchestrate the set up and running of the shop. Come down to The Good House Pop Up Shop in October and November to see the beautiful products these skilled makers have been creating. More on page 18 - 19.
WHAT’S IT LIKE TO BE PART OF THE CLOTHING TEAM?
WHAT’S IT LIKE TO BE PART OF THE HOMEWARES TEAM?
WHAT’S IT LIKE TO BE PART OF THE FOOD TEAM?
We have learnt sewing techniques which will be valuable for future endeavours. We’ve also had a chance to try vinyl and laser cutting machinery which provides a nice change after intense sewing days.
When you work with so many different materials, no two days in the workshop are the same. But we often start with a sketch, drawing inspiration from current trends and existing products.
A day in the workshop involves many things, we work with different ingredients all the time. One day we made tomato based sauces, adding our own secret ingredient to turn it into a fun game!
We create sketches that we make into pieces of clothing, having the chance to express our creative freedom and turn our ideas into reality.
Next we bring the sketch to life, planning what materials to use from wood to recycled plastic to ceramic, and which tools to use. Then we make the first prototype.
During the design process we correct errors or amend patterns to perfect our final pieces. Once complete, we set-up funky backdrops for photoshoots to market our products.
When a prototype is finished, we improve the product, looking at structure, quality, functionality and aesthetics. From here, we refine the manufacturing process, so we can make multiples of the same products.
Another day we made dough then rolled it out and turned it into wonderful pasta. As a team, we frequently revisit recipes to see if they work in line with principles like being essential and sustainable, and this also ensures that everyone in the team likes the product, and is confident in making it.

re : WORKS Re:Works is the beautiful result of a collaboration between the Victoria & Albert Museum, Every One Every Day and the talented residents of Barking & Dagenham. The V&A Museum is the world’s leading museum of art, design and performance. The museum holds a permanent collection of over 2.3 million objects that span over 5,000 years of human creativity.
THE STORY! 20 residents from the borough of Barking and Dagenham attended the Discover day, where they learned how to make clothing hooks from scrap shipping crates.
It also is home to some temporary exhibitions, which have to move on or be disposed of.
From there, Re:works have been coming to the Warehouse twice a week, learning how to work with different tools and materials, developing their skills measuring, cutting, drilling, sanding and finishing, creating a range of product for sale made almost entirely from waste material.
The V&A Museum and Every One Every Day have teamed up to work with local people in Barking & Dagenham to create beautiful products from leftover exhibition materials that would otherwise become waste, creating partnerships that are positive for the planet and create opportunities close to home.
You can enjoy their creations by heading to your new retail shop in the Dagenham Heathway shopping centre, called The Good House , the shop is a pop-up exhibiting all the hard work of many different programmes that have been running via Every One Every Day. Head to page 18 - 19 to find out more!

THE GREAT EXHIBITION PROGRAMME The Great Exhibition Road Festival The hard work put in, and the finished products made by Re:Works will also be displayed at The Great Exhibition Road Festival hosted by the V&A . Running from 9-15 October, the event asks whether art, science and people can help inspire a greener future for the planet we share. The Re:Works collaboration and the products themselves show how we can design opportunities to create the things we need, while bringing people together and protecting the planet. Attend their making session at the Great Exhibition Road Festival, where they’ll be sharing their skills making coat hook racks from left over shipping crates.
THE GOOD HOUSE POP UP SHOP The beautiful reclaimed furniture made by Re:Works, will also be available to purchase more locally. A mixture of hooks, benches, stools and children’s furniture will be available to buy or order from the new concept store The Good House popping up Dagenham Heathway shopping centre on 16th October. For more information about your new shopping experience turn to pages 18 -19.

Fancy a good cup of coffee or tea? GROUNDED is a brand new cafe run by local residents of Barking and Dagenham - a coffee shop co-operative that offers specialty coffee in a beautiful setting based at the Wilds at Barking Riverside. The cafe is brought to you in collaboration with Barking Riverside Limited and Every One Every Day. These organisations invited local residents to join Coffee:Works, a co-operative business development programme. Coffee:Works was open to all residents of Barking and Dagenham and took place this summer across five weeks. Participants learnt everything there is to know about the art of coffee making and how to run a cafe. The cafe will pioneer an environmental approach, encouraging customers to use keep-cups rather than one time use take away cups. Grounded will be incorporated as a co-operative business, giving ownership to the workers. Over the next few months, the team will test different opening hours and menu additions to understand what works best for the local area. Come by, say hi and have a cup of coffee and a delicious slice of cake. For more info and accurate opening hours please visit our website - www.wearegroundedcoffee.co.

EVERY ONE EVERY DAY AT THE WILDS
“THIS IS SUCH A BEAUTIFUL CALM SPACE, I CAN’T BELIEVE WE HAVE THIS IN THE BOROUGH”
NEW WILDERNESS COLLABORATION WITH EVERY ONE EVERY DAY, LOCAL RESIDENTS AND BARKING RIVERSIDE! The Wilds is a new ecology space in Barking and Dagenham open to residents and organisations to meet each other and create projects together. Barking Riverside and Every One Every Day are working in partnership with The Wilds space in Barking Riverside. This space creates a lot of new and fantastic opportunities for residents to come together and do more together in the borough. With a focus on nature and the environment, residents have been hosting a number of sessions to explore growing, making, learning and experimenting with the environment around them. The Wilds building is fully accessible with ramps and lifts to help residents get around and has many functional spaces for you to discover: The Grounded Coffee Shop, staffed by local residents as part of the Coffee:Works cooperative, is located at the front of the building welcoming in residents with bright faces and great tasting coffee. The Exhibition Room, surrounded by windows and wood with an open plan is a perfect space for meetings, workshops and co-working. The Terrace, an outside area linked to The Exhibition Room with a great view over Dagenham, is a great space for casual meetings and lunches. The Garden on the lower side of The Wilds building is a quiet, calm space surrounded by wildflowers and bee friendly planting. The Garden Room is an open, messy making space for workshops and more practical activities. Whether you need a quiet room for thinking and working or a more practical space for workshops, The Wilds has been designed to reflect the countless needs of the neighbourhood. Check out the Kid’s Camp and Let’s Get Talking sessions for The Wilds on the other pages.

Trade Schools are an inspiring and fun alternative to formal classes and workshops; a self organised school that runs on barter, where participants bring simple items requested by the informal teacher in exchange for the skill that they are sharing. Imagine a neighbourhood made up with all these different skills, things as everyday as changing the fuse in a plug or being able to braid hair, now imagine if you were someone that needed to learn that skill. A skill is something that you know, it could be a hobby, something you do in your spare time or related to your job. These skills could be crafty, artistic or things like home maintenance and D.I.Y skills, cooking or growing. What skills would you share? Due to limited spaces booking for every session is essential. Book your tickets here: http://everyoneeveryday.eventbrite.com
