EVERY ONE EVERY DAY
JULY
AT THE WILDS LAUNCH PROGRAMME 20 JULY - 12 SEPTEMBER SUMMER 2021
The Wilds is an incredible new community space in Barking Riverside opening on the 24 July 2021. It will be a new place for Every One Every Day, with the first 8 week programme full of opportunities for making, learning, growing, playing, eating and sharing - together with your family, friends and neighbours. Come along on the 24th July for the launch and to see inside the space!
THE WILDS AT BARKING RIVERSIDE WILL OPEN ITS DOORS ON SATURDAY 17TH JULY. A SUMMER SERIES OF PROGRAMMING, ACTIVITIES, AND ENTERTAINMENT WILL BEGIN ON TUESDAY 20TH! The Wilds is a stunning building and a fantastic resource for residents. Barking Riverside Limited (BRL) and Participatory City are working in a unique partnership that aims to work with residents to have the spaces come to life from the first day it opens. We will be doing this through actively connecting with the talents and ideas of the thousands of residents in the constantly expanding Every One Every Day network. This groundbreaking partnership will be ensuring that residents from across the borough have free access and use of the spaces on dedicated days each week, with the intention of rapidly growing The Wilds into a lively and creative hub for community, enterprise and environmental activity. As you arrive in the building there is a new coffee shop where the The Every One Every Day neighbourhood team will be based, they will share the space with GROUNDED which will be staffed by the Coffee:Works local workers’ cooperative. The Exhibition Room is a space perfect for events and workshops, transforming into a co-working room on Wednesdays for those with a laptop looking to get some work done. The Garden Room is set up for messy-making activities, facing onto the garden, and a great spot for a more practical activity. The Garden has a lovely auditorium and lawn and is ripe for planting in any greening sessions you might be interested in.

BENEATH OUT FEET CELEBRATES THE LOCAL WILDLIFE AND CONNECTS US TO ALL THINGS WILD AND WONDERFUL Introducing, the Beneath Our Feet exhibition where soil, clay and insect life are celebrated in fascinating, hands-on workshops based in the Exhibition Room at The Wilds. Complementing this, a series of talks and walks will see the local area brought to life and we’ll hear from others in London who are involved in optimistic and innovative projects that we can all learn from. See the most interesting beehive designs from around the world, clay from the River Thames change colour before your eyes and local soils reveal their secrets and plant preferences.
CLAY Slip into a pair of waders and join us as we explore our own Thames foreshore at low-tide! Observe the tiny micro organisms that live in the river and collect clay to be displayed in the The Wilds. With the clay sourced from the foreshore walk, join local residents to create ‘winogradsky columns’ of river clay in glass vases and watch as the clay blooms with colourful life in response to sunlight and different food like newspaper scraps. Bring a glass jar and create your own!
SOIL Soil has been sampled from green projects across Barking, learn how to make a hanging shelf display as we present the samples for all to see. Use our soil testing device to determine the health or contamination levels of the soil samples. Which plants might be suited to each soil? How might this help us maintain and develop our green spaces? What soil might be contaminated and what can we do about it? Find out all this and more in these special soil focused sessions.
BEES Beneath our feet, a riot of insect life lives in the soil and plantlife around us. Central to supporting the food we eat, the flowers we enjoy and the air we breathe, insect life is celebrated in our beehive exhibition of various burrowing, free-standing and tree-based beehives. Get a chance to design your own and pay homage to these little pollinators and their vital place in our shared ecosystem. Running throughout the programme, this exhibition will be a platform for projects exploring these themes in fun and fascinating ways.

EVERY ONE EVERY DAY
AT THE WILDS COME ALONG AND ENJOY YOUR NEW SPACE. NEW WILDERNESS COLLABORATION WITH EVERY ONE EVERY DAY, LOCAL RESIDENTS AND BARKING RIVERSIDE! In addition, the University of East London and Envac UK have contributed to bringing The Wilds to life. The Wilds provides a unique space to encourage the collaboration between local people and local partners. This is a unique collaboration between local people and local partners. With Every One Every Day, our role is to facilitate and make residents feel at home and free to use this wonderful venue, removing any barriers to participating in everyday activities. There’s all sorts of amazing ways we can build a sense of community in this area and to also provide a local hub for people across Barking & Dagenham and beyond to come together. Over the past few years, the Every One Every Day initiative has opened five high street shops and one large public Makerspace called Everyone’s Warehouse, round the corner in Thames Ward. The initiative focuses on helping local residents to bring neighbourhood project ideas to life. We want to build on this experience and all we’ve learnt connecting with over 5000 local people and creating more than 150 neighbourhood projects. The Every One Every Day team based at the Warehouse will work closely with the residents in Thames Ward, creating new participatory opportunities at The Wilds space. There are many sessions planned between the two spaces and can be booked using the Every One Every Day same App, so if you’ve not visited yet, then we’re keen to introduce you! At The Wild’s there is a new and exciting programme built in collaboration with the local people.

ABOUT EVERY ONE EVERY DAY Every One Every Day is a really ambitious idea, with local residents at its heart. We know that Barking and Dagenham is a vibrant place to live and work, to grow up and older in. This project makes it easier to spend time with neighbours doing practical and useful everyday things together that we all enjoy. Every One Every Day builds on the ‘hands on’ projects that people have been creating over the last few years in their own neighbourhoods, welcoming people from all walks of life. These projects include: • • • • •
Sharing skills, spaces and resources. Families working and playing more together. Batch cooking and community meals. Food growing and tree planting. Trading, making and repairing.
Every One Every Day supports residents to develop lots of projects and businesses. We have five high street shops around the borough and one large public Makerspace called Everyone’s Warehouse in Thames. So far more than 150 neighbourhood projects have been started with lots of local people participating, with as much or as little support as needed, including cooking, beekeeping, growing, making, repairing and much more. Many small things done by many people really add up, and really do make friendly, healthy and happy neighbourhoods. Lots of wonderful things are being achieved by local people, families, friends and neighbours!
