Gabriela de Miranda Pinheiro, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil

Louise Mendes Bezerra, São Paulo, Brazil

Ms. Gabriela Pinheiro works as the Institutional Relations Manager at Luta Pela Paz. Luta uses boxing and martial arts, combined with education and personal development, to help young people from high-risk communities reach their potential. In her role, Ms. Pinheiro is responsible for developing and implementing the organization’s financial sustainability strategy, developing strategic partnerships with key players, identifying new sources of funding, maintaining relationships with donors, among other responsibilities. Prior to this role, Ms. Pinheiro was a Researcher and Institutional Relations Manager at Viva Rio. She holds a Master’s Degree in Human Rights Law from Central European University and a Bachelor’s Degree in International Relations from Estacio de Sá University.

Ms. Louise Bezerra works as the Network Executive Secretary for Rede Esporte Pela Mudança Social (Sports for Social Change Network, SSCN), a network comprised of 52 organizations working with sport for development throughout Brazil. As Executive Secretary, Ms. Bezerra is responsible for building a sustainable and active network, increase awareness of sport for development in Brazil, as well as promote network member programs. Prior to holding this position, she was a Fundraising Consultant for the Institute of Co-Responsibility for Education and Health (INCORES). Ms. Bezerra holds a Bachelor’s Degree in History from the Fluminense Federal University.

Through participating in Sport for Community Ms. Pinheiro aims to create a strategic fundraising strategy for Luta and learn how to best manage organizational data and information. She also hopes to learn how to cultivate sponsorships and manage campaigns. Ms. Pinheiro endeavors to share and implement lessons learned from her mentorship within Luta as well as with other organizations.

Through participating in Sport for Community, Ms. Bezerra endeavors to improve her ability to engage network member organizations, increase her coordination and communication skills, learn new advocacy techniques, and identify funding opportunities.

Julio Cruz Lima Adeodato Recife, Brazil

Mr. Julio Adeodato works as the President, Marketing Director, and Coach at the Associação Desportiva Mariners. The Associação Desportiva Mariners is non-profit American football team that supports approximately 120 football players. Mr. Adeodato manages both administrative and technical aspects of Mariners organization including: intra-league communication, marketing and social media, running practices, developing play books and game-plans, managing the teams schedule, and implementing events and community projects. Mr. Adeodato is also the General Manager of the Graҫom School of Visual Effects. He is currently pursuing a degree in Business Administration from the Federal University of Pernambuco.

Ms. Ana Elisa Caron works as a Project Analyst for Instituto Compartilhar, an organization founded by the Brazilian Olympic volleyball champion coach Bernardinho in 2003. The institute uses volleyball to promote citizenship and mutual-understanding, as well as the values such as: cooperation, responsibility, respect and autonomy. The institute’s projects benefit approximately 4,200 children and adolescents between the ages of 9 and 15. As Project Analyst, Ms. Caron implements and monitors projects and trains teachers in the organization’s methodology. Prior to her work at Instituto Compartilhar, Ms. Caron worked as a physical education teacher in Paraná. She holds a Master’s Degree in Physical Education and Adapted Physical Activity from the Bagozzi College, as well as a Bachelor’s Degree in Physical Education from the Federal University of Paraná.

Through participating in Sport for Community, Mr. Adeodato aims to learn how to grow a nascent sport and organization, increase opportunities to teach youth the importance of sport, and gain skills to better develop partnerships and identify resources that support the Mariners and American football in Brazil. Mr. Adeodato also strives to become a better leader.

Ms. Caron’s goals for Sport for Community are: to improve her organization’s impact assessment capabilities, gain new techniques for teacher training and motivation, and increase Instituto Compartilhar’s reach while developing new programs for younger children. Ms. Caron also would like to learn new sport-based methodologies to teach values and how to best implement all of these lessons learned in Brazil.

Camilla Orlando Santana Verissimo Brasilia, Brazil

Victor Cavallari Souza Ribeirão Preto, Brazil

Employer: Capital Feminina Women’s Soccer Academy

Employer: Associação Pró-Esporte e Cultura

Ms. Camilla Verissimo works as the Owner, Manager, and Coach at Capital Feminina Women’s Soccer Academy. Capital Feminina provides soccer training to girls between 12 and 19 years old as well as adult female soccer players. The organization has been operating for almost two years and supports approximately 50 female athletes. Ms. Verissimo strives to provide female athletes with a professional environment to learn and practice soccer. In addition to her work with Capital Femenina, she also works as the Competition and Team Services Assistant for the 2014 FIFA World Cup. Ms. Verissimo has a degree in Kinesiology from Lincoln Memorial University.

Mr. Victor Souza works as a Sport and Exercise Psychologist at the Associação Pró-Esporte e Cultura (APEC). APEC, founded in 1996, is a non-profit that implements sportsbased programs for at-risk children. APEC’s programs reach 2,300 children, 8 to twelve years old, in four cities throughout the state of São Paulo. As a psychologist at APEC, Mr. Souza is responsible for developing, monitoring, and assessing the organization’s impact. Prior to working at APEC, he was a volunteer at Associação Sobreviventes do Amanhã, where he taught soccer to children between 7 and nine 9 old. He is currently pursuing a Master’s Degree in Sports Psychology from the University of São Paulo and holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology from the University of São Paulo.

Through participating in Sport for Community Ms. Verissimo aims to increase the number of female athletes Capital Feminina reaches, support the development of women’s soccer throughout Brazil, develop an English language training component for the Capital Feminina, and learn how successful sports development organizations are managed and funded. Ms. Verissimo also hopes to explore the structure of high school, collegiate, and professional leagues in the U.S. and how these each play a role in the development of female soccer.

Through participating in Sport for Community Mr. Souza aims to learn new ways to think about social problems and social inclusion through sports. He also endeavors to learn new methodologies to increase the effectiveness of sport-based youth development programs. Mr. Souza also hopes to gain new tools and skills for increasing program reach and assessing project impact.

Employer: Urece Sports and Culture for the Blind

Employer: Centro Integrado de Estudos e Programas de Desenvolvimento Sustentável (CIEDS)

Mr. Mayr, is a founding member ofUrece Sports and Culture for the Blind, where he works as the Institutional Relations Manager. Urece is an NGO based in Rio de Janeiro that promotes sports and culture for the blind. The organization uses sport as the means to increase social inclusion, employability skills, and educational opportunities for participants. As the Institutional Relations Manager, Mr. Mayr is responsible for forming partnerships and cultivating stakeholder relationships, developing projects, and implementing the association’s business plan. Prior to founding Urece, he was a student support coordinator at the Royal National College for the Blind in the United Kingdom. Mr. Mayr received his Master’s Degree in Adapted Physical Activity from KULeuven and Palackého University and his Bachelor’s Degree in Physical Education from the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro.

Mr. Luiz Sergio Filho works as Project Manager at Centro Integrado de Estudos e Programas de Desenvolvimento Sustentável (Center for Integration and Sustainable Development, CIEDS). CIEDS is a non-profit, philanthropic organization founded in 1998 that recently gained United Nations Economic and Social Council status. CIEDS seeks to promote a society based on knowledge, cooperation, and the empowerment of individuals through creating strategic bonds between organizations. As Project Manager, Mr. Filho coordinates and supervises the implementation of two projects: Lideran as Comunitárias (Community Leaders) and Craque do Amanhã (Ace of Tomorrow). Both of these projects embrace professional training, Sport for Development, and social entrepreneurship. Mr. Filho is currently pursuing a Master’s Degree in Social Science with a focus on cultural policies from the University Research Institute of Rio de Janeiro.

Through participating in Sport for Community Mr. Mayr aims to increase the reach of Urece and identify sustainable funding opportunities, learn successful advocacy techniques, and have a mentor evaluate and assess Urece’s development. Additionally, he would love the opportunity to organize an event to promote soccer for the blind in the United States.

Through participating in Sport for Community, Mr. Filho aims to improve his knowledge of social development focused projects, gain a better understanding of how sport can be used as a tool for social development, and observe new sport-based projects.

Alessandro Martins Rio de Janeiro, Brazil

Employer: Triska Santos Tennis School

Mr. Alessandro Martins works as the Project Development Manager at Instituto Trevo Tecnologia Social, an organization that uses sports and education to create social change. Instituto Trevo supports and develops projects and social policies through partnerships between the public and private sectors. As Project Development Manager, Mr. Martins’ main duties include planning, development, coordination, and evaluation of projects; Public Private Partnership management; executive management of sports project; and strategic planning. Prior to working at Instituto Trevo, Mr. Martins worked as a Project Manager Consultant with PlayUp Sport Platform, a mobile-based social network and commercial platform driven by sport. He holds an MBA from Anhembi University and a Bachelor’s Degree in Economics from Mackenzie University.

Mr. Matheus de Oliveira is the founder and coach at Triska Santos Tennis School. The academy provides tennis classes to all ages and all levels. Mr. de Oliveira and his academy staff are currently working on a project called PRO-ESPORTE; a project created by the sports authorities from the state of Rio Grande do Sul. The goal of PRO-ESPORTE is to implement sports programs through three centers: a social center, a new talent development center and a high performance center. The goal of the social center is to provide tennis classes, psychological support, reading workshops, meditation practices, yoga, arts and dance classes to under-privileged youth. As founder and coach of Triska Santos Tennis School, Mr. de Oliveira gives tennis lessons and is greatly involved in all aspects of the PRO-ESPORTE project. He holds a degree in High-Performance Tennis from Gama-Filho University, as well as a degree in Physical Education with a focus on tennis from the Lutheran University of Brazil.

Through participating in Sport for Community, Mr. Martins hopes to: learn best practices from other sport for development projects, develop new projects that engage the private and public sectors, and improve his management skills and sport-based youth development knowledge.

Through participating in Spot for Community, Mr. de Oliveira aims to create greater opportunities for marginalized youth to play tennis, gain financial and program management skills, learn how to best work with schools, and develop a holistic methodology that supports youth development.

Priscila Regina Lopes Diamantina, Brazil Employer: Federal University of Jequitinhonha and Mucuri Valleys (UFVJM) Ms. Priscila Lopes is a Gymnastics Professor at the Federal University of Jequitinhonha and Mucuri Valleys (UFVJM). In addition to her role as professor of Gymnastics I and II, she coordinates Physical Education undergraduate courses and supervises physical education internships. She is also the leader of a gymnastics group and the coordinator of Diamantina Gym Group. Prior to her work at UFVJM, Ms. Lopes was an artistic gymnastics coach at the Pinheiros Sport Club. She holds a Master’s Degree in Physical Education from São Paulo University. Through participating in Sport for Community, Ms. Lopes aims to increase her knowledge and skills in gymnastics, learn how to plan and manage educational sport programs for marginalized youth, and create partnerships to support these programs.

Daniel Henrique da Silva Leite São Paulo, Brazil Employer: Social Service of Commerce Mr. Daniel Leite works as a Sports Monitor at SESC Interlagos. SESC was created in 1946 and is a private institution with a public mission: to assist commerce and service employees, especially those in low-income families, through non-formal educational programs. In São Paulo state, more than 2 million people are enrolled in SESC and the organization develops programs in areas such as health, culture, physical activities, assistance and nutrition. As a Sports Monitor, Mr. Leite manages the physical education instructors and conducts activities, such as sports classes and gymnastics. He also plans and participates in sports events to encourage others to become involved in sports. Prior to working as a Sports Monitor, Mr. Leite was a physical education instructor with SESC São Paulo. He holds a Master’s Degree in Sports Training from the Federal University of São Paulo and a Master’s Degree in Sports Pedagogy from Gama Filho University. Through participating in Sport for Community, Mr. Leite aims to increase the number of youth involved in SESC programs, expand program offerings, learn best practices from the NGO sector in the United States, and increase his leadership skills.

Amanda Busch Rigo Neves Bezerra São Paulo, Brazil

Beatriz Vaz e Silva São Paulo, Brazil

Employer: Instituto Passe de Mágica

Employer: Ferroviaria de Araraquara Futebol Clube / Guerreiras Project

Ms. Amanda Bezerra is the Technical Supervisor at the Passe de Mágica Institute (IPM), a sport for development NGO that uses basketball. The organization currently works with approximately 720 children in three cities using a methodology that links motor, cognitive and social development. . As the Technical Supervisor, Ms. Bezerra supervises and evaluates staff, prepares annual work and methodology development plans, and plans and executes events. Ms. Bezerra also works as a Physical Educator at the Barrichello Kanaan Institute (IBK), which is a nonprofit NGO that provides physical activity for children and the elderly, in addition to computer classes for seniors. As a Physical Educator, she works to develop specific physical activities for different age groups, and develops and evaluates IBKs basketball project, among other duties. Ms. Bezerra holds a Master’s Degree in Sports Psychology from Sedes Sapientiae and a Bachelor’s Degree in Physical Education from Mackenzie University.

Ms. Beatriz Silva is a professional soccer player for the Brazilian Women’s National Team and Fundesport Ferroviaria de Araraquara. She is also an Ambassador for the Guerreiras Project. The Guerreiras Project works in local communities across Brazil promoting gender equality and the role of women in society. As an Ambassador for the project, Ms. Silva is responsible for delivering community workshops, recruiting other female athlete leaders to participate in Guerreiras capacitybuilding, and connecting the project to women’s soccer teams as well as community organizations. Ms. Silva holds a degree in Physical Education from Mackenzie Presbyterian University and is currently working towards a degree in Business Administration from Araraquara Central University.

Through participating in Sport for Community, Ms. Bezerra aims to learn more about sport for development programs and projects in the United States, especially how they are evaluated and supported financially. She also hopes to be able to share her own knowledge and experience with her host organization.

Through participating in Sport for Community Ms. Silva aims to increase the visibility of professional female soccer players as positive role models in their communities, identify and access opportunities for professional and leadership growth, solicit feedback on Guerreiras Project messaging effectiveness and impact, improve Guerreiras Project’s strategic planning, and develop her capacity as a leader among her peers and her community.

Marcelo Bittencourt Neiva de Lima Florianópolis, Brazil Employer: Instituto Guga Kuerten Mr. Marcelo de Lima is the Sports Coordinator at Instituto Guga Kuerten (IGK), an NGO with educational, philanthropic, sports, and social goals. The institute’s mission is promoted and support development opportunities and social inclusion for all citizens, and increase solidarity within Brazilian society. As Sports Coordinator, Mr. de Lima coordinates a sports-based educational program for 720 youth between the ages of seven and 15 that is staffed by 50 multidisciplinary educators. Prior to working with IGK, Mr. de Lima was a Professor at Santa Catarina State University (UDESC). He holds a Master’s Degree in Human Movement Sciences and a Bachelor’s Degree in Physical Education, both from UDESC. Through participating in Sport for Community, Mr. de Lima aims to learn how sports-based youth development programs in the United States support vulnerable populations, exchange knowledge and experiences with his mentor, and establish a network with American colleagues.
