WELCOME BACK Clubbers have an abundance of choice on any given night to shake their booties and spend their money. There is so much electronic music talent crammed into 570 square metres, only so many can survive and even fewer can flourish. Even the most prestigious can fail. It has often been said that the first year of any new venture on this island is difficult. There have been a few who disproved this theory last summer by making their debut season a stunning success. ENTER at Space, MUSIC ON at Amnesia and EL ROW at Privilege not only survived last year, but raise the bar. Richie Hawtin, after many years dj’ing on the island, introduced his own night. Innovative promotion and intimate rooms to compliment the main dancefloor, combined with cool minimal style and some of the most underground music to be found, made ENTER a huge success. MUSIC ON, presented by Marco Carola, was indeed all about the music. Carola, playing his bouncy style of techno, was joined by the likes of Josh Wink, Guy Gerber, Maetrik and Miss Kittin. The clubbers showed up in great numbers week after week and some may even have been drawn away from Amnesia’s other legendary techno night Cocoon. Where Enter and Music On championed the ‘’concept of the no concept’’, Barcelona’s EL ROW brought back a carnival atmosphere and reminds us all how much fun a party can be. Privilege‘s newly renovated Vista Club

was transformed every week to a different theme which brought colour and quirkiness to Ibizas party scene. If something is worth doing, it’s worth over-doing. This philosophy proved successful, evident from the smiles on people’s faces leaving the club as they waded through the sea of confetti. Considering his many awards and the fact that he has been ranked No. 1 in DJ Magazine’s top 100 poll on numerous occasions, the popularity of Armin Van Buuren’s Monday night affair was no surprise to most. Having said that, filling the huge main room of Privilege is no easy feat. Named after his global reaching radio show, A STATE OF TRANCE proved to be one of the biggest events on the Ibiza calendar and showed the pulling power of this trance legend. As for 2013, which of the new parties will finish the season with their heads held high and which will be with regrets? Here are a few that we think could be the ones to watch: Wisdom of the Glove @ Pacha Pacha has had some major changes since last summer. The owners opted for a change in direction, out with the old, in with the new. A new management team has been hired replacing some stalwarts of the business, long serving DJs shown the door and some fresh new faces brought in. Among those new faces is Israeli born DJ Guy Gerber. Guy has been no stranger to the island but his own residency at Pacha is sure to be seen as a huge step up. A less

Welcome Back commercial sound than from the previous Wednesday night resident Erick Morillo is to be expected. Following Guy Gerber’s success of last year’s ‘Fabric 64’ and with a new album on the way, Wisdom of the Glove should be an interesting event this summer.

WELCOME BACK but a sustained presence may not be far off. Fellow Pacha exiles Luciano and his Vagabundos, Defected Records and Erick Morillo will be among those playing on their custom made Pioneer soundsytem. Hypercolour @ Sankeys Not one of the biggest record labels in the world but with releases from some cool names over the past few years: Jamie Jones, Groove Armada and Maya Jane Coles to name but a few. With many DJs tied down to exclusive contacts the success of their new Monday night series at Sankeys will depend on who they will have lined up.

The Forgotten Club & Bomba Ibiza Old venues, new names. The two probably most ambitious new club projects this summer are The Forgotten Club in Port des Torrent and Bomba in Marina Botafoch. After massive refurbishment over the winter months The Forgotten Club is an underground venue made for tourists and locals alike. At their opening party Shonky warmed up the dancefloor for a promising season with loads of unannounced surprise acts on the decks. With the shake up at Pacha and all those people shown the door there was always going to be someone looking to give them a new home. Their new home, as it happens, isn’t very far from their old one. Giuseppe Cipriani has teamed up with Pacha old boys Danny Whittle and Mark Netto. They have taken over ‘Penelope’, a club just a few hundred metres down the road. The venue has seen limited success in the past

12

TheClubbingBible.Net

Used And Abused @ Ushuaia Since Ushuaia opened as a hotel in 2011 they have achieved an astonishing amount in a short space of time and have truly established themselves as big players. This was due to bringing in big stars to their cool new venue. With the latest edition to their rota they have no less of a big name but definitely a move away from the mainstream that has become their signature over the last two years. Since changing from a beach bar to a hotel the minimal techno sound that made them famous has taken a back seat. Loco Dice in Ushuaia for Thursday’s ‘Used and Abused’

provides an opportunity for him to revive the exciting atmosphere that gave Ushuaia the platform on which they built their empire. Next Wave & Get Physical @ Privilege Privilege have been upping their appearance massively last year and new arrivals to Vista Club look promising. Get Physical, the record label set up by some of the scene’s finest producers, M.A.N.D.Y. and Booka Shade, will bring new beats and up and coming talents on Tuesdays. On Wednesdays the “world’s biggest club” welcomes Next Wave with residents Ian F. and Valentino Kanzyani, whose surprise guests last year were Ricardo Villalobos and Luciano. Their underground sound should fit well with the intimate style of the Vista Club.

Solomun + 1 @ Pacha Another new arrival at Pacha sees the award winning producer Solomun taking over Sundays from the hugely successful Luciano and his Vagabundos. Solomun held a residency at Sankeys last year with Diynamic Neon Nights. Given the popularity of the night, it may be assumed that he should continue in this vein. The concept of “+ 1” is an interesting one where he wants himself and his guest DJ to be involved in the whole party. The only doubt being, how his fans view the change to a club that has normally been associated with a more commercial sound and a different crowd.

2013 looks like a promising party summer on the White Isle but only time will tell!

INTERVIEW GUY GERBER

INTERVIEW GUY GERBER

Guy Gerber about

Hola Guy! Pacha is making huge changes in their party calender this year. Please tell us your story! How did you end up with your own night? Did you come up with the concept for Wisdom of the Glove, or did Pacha approach you to create something there? Pacha was interested in having me play this summer, but I didn‘t just want to play, I wanted total artistic freedom. They came to me with the offer for my own night as I was just getting back from the BPM festival in Mexico and the concept for Wisdom of the Glove was beginning to form. In the beginning it was just a name, but when we started evolving I got a lot of support from

16

TheClubbingBible.Net

the Pacha team. We were throwing ideas back and forth to each other and landed immediately on the same page – that made the whole creative process really fun. Surprisingly, not only was Pacha into the concept, they were also totally into any idea or DJ that I was suggesting – and some of the names were really not that known, but very credible. Pacha is celebrating its 40th anniversary. What has been your impression of the cherry brand before you got to know it? Pacha is the only real global club - you have Pacha in New York, in Dubai, in Tel Aviv, and

Photos: Ross Laurence

The Wisdom of the Glove What do you think you can add to the Pacha culture? Pacha has been glamorous, it has been very successful, and it has been bringing many DJs during the last 40 years. One thing is for sure, musically none of those previous artists play as weird as myself and the people I am bringing!

over what used to be a little bit more of a free environment. Something I feel that is missing recently is that thing called the track of the summer. It exists now but on a lower level. As for parties on the island, what Richie Hawtin is doing with Enter, for example, is a breath of fresh air incorporated with a lot of innovative ideas. Overall, Ibiza became more commercial, but its still Ibiza – still a spiritual place, and still the place you can do many things that you can’t do anywhere else.

When you think of Ibiza, what do you think of the development in recent years? I notice that marketing and branding took

INTERVIEW GUY GERBER season. What can you reveal about the theme and soundtrack behind this party? The sound will be hypnotic and deep, while staying melodic and danceable. It will take people on a journey and make the crowd feel that anything is possible at that moment. You can expect the night to be mysterious, psychedelic and slightly creepy but one thing people have to bear in mind is we have just started and not everything is going to be exactly like we planned because of the time issue. What I think is, we have been very successful in already creating the illusion in people’s mind, so as they come in they already have the imagery in their head and at the end what will make a difference is the quality of the music that we want to offer. It’s still about the music as much as it is about the party and that comes first. Or in other words, its all about the glove! What are you planning to do to get this concept across production-wise? Will there be a lot of changes to the normal set up of the club? What about decoration and gimmicks? We are working on an elaborate production and performance, very realist art, including body mapping on dancers. There will be magicians, shadow puppeteers, and much more. The night will have its very own Zoltar machine similar to the movie “Big”. Part of the decoration is also the unusual personalities of the DJs I’m bringing, like Mr. Bill Patrick! We heard about 150,000 Euros budget for decoration for your party. How is that going? The budget for decoration was never a certain amount. Pacha has its own factory, where they

18

TheClubbingBible.Net

INTERVIEW GUY GERBER create mindblowing original decor. We did invest a lot in order to make things a bit more playful and interactive and there will be a lot of hidden aspects to discover during the night. Obviously, not everything is going to be ready for the first few weeks, but regarding that amount I think you’re talking about the one master ancient glove that we’re planning to sell for the glorious amount of 150,000 Euros. You did a prelude at Pacha in April. How was that? And did that change anything on how you will lay out your dates in summer? First, I was very happy to come and meet the team and experience the way everyone works together. It made me think about my DJ set for the party, standing in the booth there are many different parts of the room you need to take into consideration. Since my music is much more deeper than what’s usually played over there, I don‘t want to compromise on the quality of the music I will play. I realized I need to prepare a new live set that fits that room. The so called underground in Ibiza seems to be getting bigger and bigger, with promoters fighting over a limited number of talented DJs. How did you go about choosing who will be playing with you? That’s an interesting question. Honestly, it’s kind of sad how much politics are involved in the decisions of DJ slots in Ibiza. I can tell you that, without going into too many details, some people made an effort to prevent some of my best friends of playing with me. Nevertheless, I wasn’t upset – I just thought it was a great opportunity to spotlight some new names.

The Visionquest guys and Mayaan Nidam are recurring guests on Wednesdays. Who else? Please tell us some of the Wisdom talents. Shaun Reeves, Bill Patrick, Maayan Nidam, and Phil Weeks will all be residents of the Glove. I really chose artists I thought would challenge the crowd, take them out of what they are used to, while at the same playing music all partygoers could appreciate. All these DJs never compromise their music, they can play chugging dark techno but at the same time also listening to music outside of the dance music world – and you can hear how they combine this in their sets. Who of your least known guests would you recommend? Who should we come to see? One of my favorites, of course, are the Chromatics, playing on May 29, an amazing band with an amazing singer. We’re also bringing Delano Smith, who is one of my favourite deep house producers. Four Tet is coming to Pacha and on that night we are going to have another amazing guest that never played in Ibiza before – I can’t really say his name right now, but it will be our most successful night. Are there any plans for back-to-back sessions with some guests? What about live? It will be the world premiere of a project that I’m working on with Mathew Jonson. We’re going to play a 3-hour live set together twice this season. Also Deadbeat and Tikiman will do their live show the way they did at the Mutek Festival . You seem like an after hours kind of guy. Are there any plans for carry on‘s in Ibiza? >>>

INTERVIEW GUY GERBER

INTERVIEW GUY GERBER soccer team with the most awkward players on the planet. Do your parents come to your gigs? How do they feel about your accomplishments? In general, I’m a very superstitious person and the first time my parents came to see me play was years ago while I was playing in Tel Aviv, it was a disaster! It was extremely awkward and embarrassing, so later I forbid them to come, at least for a few years. Last year I played a show with Chaim (who will also be playing the Glove) in Tel Aviv, they came and loved it. My sister came as well. After that, almost every time I play in Tel Aviv someone in my family comes. Last time it was my 16 year old niece with her boyfriend.

22

Well, I take this as a compliment. Yes a lot of people already offered their villas for more private afterparties, but I want to make something that more people can participate in. It’s very difficult to do it in Ibiza, but we’re definitely working on it.

So you still play soccer sometimes? Or any other sports? Unfortunately, I became a couch potato, but I’m going to change that this summer: that’s my goal. It will be the only way to survive the whole season!

With a weekly party we expect you to live on the island all summer? To which other parties will you go to enjoy your nights off? I will visit my friend‘s party, Flying Circus at Sankeys, and tiNI & the Gang. I always like to stop by and say hi to Marco Carola of Music On when I have Fridays free.

Which daytime activities do you recommend for leisure in Ibiza? Honestly, I love visiting the old town, it never loses its charm. I also just came back from seeing the new El Destino hotel and the view is breathtaking. I’m probably going to hang out a lot over there. I’m also planning to form a little

TheClubbingBible.Net

We heard rumours that you will open your own club in the States this year. What can you say about that? Verboten is opening a nightclub in Williamsburg, Brooklyn, NY, by the water and some big partners are involved including Carl Craig and more. My manager Jen and the rest of the team at Verboten are a strong force. In New York I have a big group of friends and I love living in the city. I’m very excited about this club, but I’m mainly a partner rather than owner of the club. It has an amazing warehouse feeling and we are going to bring one of my best friends, George, to help with the sound. Recently you did an US tour, like more and more DJs do nowadays. Is this just a big new market? First, personally I live in New York and last year I lived in LA. I find America very inspiring. Jazz and Rock n’ Roll started over there. Some of the best movies have been done over there and

also the lifestyle is very cinematic. This is what made me move there. Right now electronic music is booming. Some people are against it, I really don’t understand why. For me, a lot of people are exposed to this kind of genre. For sure most of them are listening to the more commercial side of EDM, but it also leaves a lot of space for underground DJs to spread the message in some cities that have never been exposed to that. Are clubbers any different over the Atlantic? And what is their attitude towards underground electronic music? Obviously the East Coast of the States is much more educated and sophisticated. You have brands like Footwork in Toronto, Spybar in Chicago, and the Electric Pickle in Miami, which are some of the best clubs in the world. The West Coast is divided into really commercial music lovers that aren’t as exposed to underground, as well as the hipster crowd of San Francisco that goes to Burning Man, which have become also big fans of the sound we like. Last question: If you could choose to be a comic hero, which one would you be and why? One of my favorite books of all time is Watchmen, which is considered the best graphic novel of all times. Out of all the characters, I’m probably similar to the Owl Man, but if it was up to me I would love to be Dr. Manhattan, because he exists in the past, the present, and the future all at the same time. Thanks for your time, see you around!

SANKEYS Season Preview 2013 Boogielicious summer boom! “Beautifully messy, lustfully exciting, blissfully wrong”. These were the six words Steve Lawler applied to describe his nights at Sankeys Ibiza. And it’s this ongoing trust and support of talented DJs that adds huge credibility to the UK rooted venture. Last summer Sankeys managed to establish itself in Ibiza as a solid underground venue along the infamous DC10. The raw, dark atmosphere of the main floor called Basement with its low ceilings, columns and huge Void sound system contributes to the distinctive Sankeys Manchester feel. With the booth at almost the same level as the dancefloor the club is thrilling for DJs and clubbers alike. Now, here in Sankeys, you are closer to your favourite DJ than anywhere else in Ibiza, that is for sure. It’s easy to get lost in the music on the other two floors: It’s the Spektrum room or the Lighting Audio Bureau (LAB) room you will find your friends who had wanted to be ‚back in a minute‘ but could not resist and stayed. The LAB particularly has been improved over the winter and it will be one of the huge surprises this season.

Musically, the new summer sees an expansion of successful nights and the establishment of one or two new concepts and productions: SUNDAYS sees Steve Lawler‘s Viva Warriors return with Darius Syrossian, Steve Bug, Guti and more. MONDAYS are going to be huge with Hypercolour at the Basement, awarded ‚Label of the year‘ by DJ Mag, and Cirque de la Nuit at the LAB where you can unleash your inner circus freak with Marco Bailey and guests. TUESDAYS we are looking forward to Diynamic Neon Nights when Solomun is back for a second season in Ibiza alongside his buddies David August, Stimming and H.O.S.H. WEDNESDAYS is Fuse, London’s clubbing Institution with Enzo Siragusa, Seb Zito and more. THURSDAYS welcome Dirtybird: Claude van Stroke‘s first own Ibiza residency with guests like Justin Martin, Catz n Dogz and more. FRIDAYS this season belong to Flying Circus. This party is a flash of genius of Barcelona based DJ duo Audiofly six years ago. As it was so difficult to keep in touch with their fellow DJ colleagues touring the world, they threw a party just for close friends with the mission to create the ultimate party atmosphere.

SATURDAYS > Carnival. Everybody knows one‘s own baby is always the prettiest. So without a doubt Sankeys is especially proud of their Saturday night. Rightly so, last season went great musically and drew rising numbers of punters to the club. With DJs coming from all over the world to Sankeys last summer, the crew is planning a little twist this season: ‘Carnival Cities’ sees promoters or labels from different cities taking over all of the floors. Expect DJ Sneak, Dennis Ferrer, Alexis Raphael, Citizen, Todd Terry, Anthony Rother and Jozif, among many others. Carefully chosen they all share the same spirit: Exuberant parties on a high musical level. From the deeper grooves of South London’s Ordnance, to the unmistakable sounds of the Mobilee crew from Berlin, and the rich Latin flavour brought to the island by D-Edge from Brazil, this will

From the outside rather inconspicuous, no one would suspect that here every Monday in the hot summer months a new chapter in electronic music history is written. Mondays are Circoloco! An Ibiza “Lifestyle”, appreciated and celebrated by music

hours were heavily restricted. The Zoo Project and Channel Zoo are no strangers to adversity. 2007 wasn’t the most likely year f o r one of Ibiza’s most infamous day-time parties to establish itself. On the contrary, it seemed that day-time partying on anything close to a large scale could become a thing of the past.

58

TheClubbingBible.Net

That year, two of the island’s most notorious daytime venues, DC10 and Bora Bora, were temporarily closed (with DC10 facing further closures in 2008 and 2009). Additions to the roof structures of Space and DC10 effectively sealed dancers off from the sunshine and changes to licensing regulations meant club opening

The writing looked to be on the wall for day-time parties and there was a noticeable nocturnal shift in the programming of the parties. Every bar on the island had a decibel monitor and it seemed even owning a set of speakers at home was enough of an excuse for the police to come and shut down your barbecue.

Yet, despite all this one of the most original day-time party concepts Ibiza has seen in a decade still managed to flourish. Every Saturday throngs of party animals would converge on the abandoned zoo at the foot of the Benimussa hills and dance the afternoon away. A completely open-air venue, The Zoo Project became synonymous with sunshine. Just as the rest of the island seemed to be shutting the punters inside, here was an outdoor party with a pool and space to dance under the sun. “It was a special time for everyone involved,” remembers Defex, Zoo Project resident DJ. “We really felt like we were on the cusp of something fresh and exciting. And, of course, the people recognized the caliber of music we play.” With a reputation as purveyors of some of the finest underground sounds on the island and an outdoor venue to rival any of its illustrious day-time predecessors, The Zoo Project has gone from strength to strength. Further stages were added to the venue and a variety of interactive artists and stage entertainers were introduced, providing a standard of performance unprecedented on the island.

60

TheClubbingBible.Net

2007 was not the final chapter of the daytime party story many of us at the time predicted but rather a new beginning. The Zoo Project and Channel Zoo have changed day-time dancing in Ibiza and changed it for the better. “The party has really come into its own,” says Defex. “What started as a get-together for friends, family and lovers of electronic music has grown into a really special party. It was completely organic.” Such has been the growth in stature of Channel Zoo’s Wednesday gathering that this year the party will also be the Grand Opening of the Galanight Park itself!

INTERVIEW

QUESTIONS TO

JOSEPH CAPRITATI 62

TheClubbingBible.Net

Hi Joseph! Your new album is called ‚Self Portrait‘, let‘s begin with a private question: Who is Joseph Capriati? What do people like about your character and what are your little flaws? Oh wow, this is a difficult question. I am generally quite a private person so I‘m not good in talking about myself. It‘s probably easier for me to talk about my flaws to be honest. I would say the one thing that I scold myself for is that I always seem to be last-minute with everything. Whether it is getting to the airport, leaving for the club or meeting whatever deadline I have been given, I always seem to be running behind trying to get everything done with no time left! Everything always gets done though, so I guess the only person that suffers is me!

Musically, what can we expect from the new album? Is it a condensed version of the sound you play on the dance floor? Yes, in some aspect that is a good way of describing the musical concept of the album as there is some big techno tracks and some epic, melodic tracks, as well as some groovier tech house tracks. In summery, I would say that the album goes further than just dance floor music. I wanted the album to really reflect the full range of my musical taste, as well as tracks for the dance floor. I have made some more electronic tracks that create an atmosphere which reflects the more alternative side of electronic music that is really what I like to listen at home or when I‘m driving my car. I hope my fans will enjoy it because I am very happy with it.

How would you describe your own interpretation of techno music? I think this is an interesting question, techno as a genre sounds really diverse nowadays. Of course, there has always been different sub-genres, variations or hybrids of different styles but right now I think that most styles of techno are being presented

TheClubbingBible.Net

63

INTERVIEW by artists for exposure to the clubbing mainstream. For example, with all the important promoters like Awakenings, Time Warp, Monegros, Berghain, Fabric, Fuse, etc. you hear artists, from across the techno spectrum, playing really hard techno or tracks that are basically a house music tempo but with techno sounds. So when people say they like or play techno it is not easy to know what their interpretation of the sound is, so for me I would say I play quite a new techno sound that is influenced by modern trends as well as traditional styles of tech. However, when it comes to me thinking about the music I play, the one factor I think about more than anything is to try and always keep the flow of energy within the tracks that suits the vibe on the dance floor. Despite having a modern taste, my DJ style is very traditional because I grew up dj’ing in local discos playing pop music and crossover house. This taught me to read what the crowd wants as those people were there to be entertained, not to see me and listen to my music. Approaching dj’ing from this point of view differs from having a 1000 people all excited to hear you play at an underground party. These days the crowd tends to follow me, back then I had to follow the crowd! In a typical set, how many of your own works are you playing and how does it feel when you play one of your own tracks compared to other tracks? Recently I have been playing quite a few, 4 or 5 tracks a night. I have all the new music from my album and it feels great to play them because no one knows what they are and without wanting to sound arrogant, they have been amongst my biggest tracks all year. Normally I would play

64

TheClubbingBible.Net

INTERVIEW maybe one or two tracks of my own in a set. I tend not to write lots and lots of tracks all the time. I prefer to focus on two or three studio sessions a year when I would write all my music for that period. I don‘t always have lots of my own tracks to play but some of my recent tracks like ‚The Gallery‘, ‚Solar System‘ or ‚Congenial Endeavour‘ I have ended up playing in nearly every set for the last year and people seem to enjoy it. However, I am generally playing longer sets these days, like three, four, five or even twelve hours! Maybe I will start playing more of my own music now because I will need to find more and more tracks that I like! The Italians seem to love techno. Do you think economic and political problems have an influence on the music scene, or is electronic music “antipolitical”? I think it really depends on the individual person. Whether it be fans or artists. People get their inspiration to be part of the techno scene from all sorts of places, sometimes from life events such as politics, war, or economic problems. Other times the inspiration comes from lighter moods like being in love. Really, for me at least, it is just all about being inspired. It doesn‘t matter where that inspiration comes from as long as you follow the music with passion. You live in Barcelona now. Why did you choose this city and how important is your home town Napoli to you? How important is Napoli to me? I don‘t have the words to express my feelings! Which is not what you want me to say for an interview but this is the way I feel about my home town. I will try though! Whether it be the place or the people - there is an

INTERVIEW unique vibe that exists within everything and everyone in the city and that is really something unique that I have only found in a handful of cities. I think the best way anyone can begin to understand the relationship I have with Napoli is to watch some of the footage from my recent 12hour gig at Metropolis in Napoli. It was a very emotional moment for me and everyone there. The atmosphere that night was something very special that will stay with me forever as an inspiration and a reminder of why I love Napoli with all my heart. Barcelona is quickly becoming my new home though and I have really enjoyed the time I have lived there. There are certain similarities to Napoli - it is a city with a beach and the ocean on its doorstep. The Catalonian people have a similar passionate spirit as do the Napolitans and the weather reminds me of home too and it has been a very natural transition for me. I have a lot of good friends there also and I don‘t get too homesick but it is very true that there is no place like home. Any DJ friends here you hang out with regularly? Yeah, I am close friends with Paco Osuna who is of course Mr. Barcelona when it comes to techno, but Marco Carola and Dubfire also spend part of the year in Barcelona so they have all been very hospitable to me while I have been finding my way in the city. Also, of course there is pretty much always DJ‘s travelling through Barcelona each weekend and if

INTERVIEW they are playing at Club 4 on a Thursday or El Row on a Sunday then I always try to make the effort to go and see them. There is such a great scene for techno in Barcelona. The crowd is very well educated musically and people love to party. Coming to Ibiza: You‘ve become the most popular Music On artist along Marco Carola himself. What is it about this party that made it such a success last season? All things considered, there are many reasons why the Music On parties worked out that well. The entire Music On crew worked really hard in the summer. Amnesia did a great job with the club, the sound and every other detail, but I personally think the secret of the success is based on the Music On motto, ‚It‘s all about the music‘. Marco‘s musical vision was perfect every week with the artists he booked and the vibe he created on the terrace. Everything else just fell into place. Apart from your Music On residency will there be any other Ibiza dates for you outside Amnesia? Yes and no! I have been given the honor to play at the opening party for Amnesia on June 8th, so yes. I do have a gig away from Music On but it will be still in Amnesia in the main room. I may set up my Ibiza home in the DJ booth! You had not really met Marco Carola before Music On, right? So how would you describe your relationship now? Obviously Marco is a real hero of mine from way back, but yes, he was not someone who I really knew personally before I started to work

INTERVIEW with Music On. However, when you work with someone so much in a short period of time, especially in an intense environment like Ibiza, then you get to know each other very well, very quickly. Music On has a great crew of people working alongside Marco and the whole set up feels like a big family, which is typical Napolitan style and I feel very much at home. Can you tell us something about Music On 2013? What do you guys have in store for us this summer? Any news? I am not sure exactly what I can say about our plans right now so I don‘t want to give away any secrets but I can say that I will be playing eight shows for Music On over the whole summer season. I am so excited to be back again this year and as soon as I know I can discuss more I will let you know! What is your personal Ibiza recommendation for holiday makers? First, try and stay on the island for as long as you can so you can relax and enjoy the Ibizan spirit. Then make sure that you have time to tour around the island to see all the amazing beaches, soak up the beautiful scenery and eat in the amazing little restaurants away from the crowds. Before you are ready to go out to the clubs, make sure you get lots of sleep because you never know when the party will end!

from last year but it makes me smile so much that I think I would have to say it is my favourite, at least for now! I was lucky enough to have my 25th birthday the day before one of my Music On shows, so I invited a few friends to stay with me for the whole week that we could properly celebrate my birthday. As it happened, so many friends ended up coming that we had a huge party that lasted all night and most of the next day too! It really was an amazing occasion for me and for it to be held in such a unique setting, with so many of my friends, at a very special time of my life, it meant so much and will stay with me as a special memory forever. Thank you very much, see you around the island!

„Where there is love and inspiration, I don‘t think you can go wrong.” This quote by legendary jazz singer Ella Fitzgerald graces Dinky‘s Facebook page and shows a lot of the devotion to music of the Berlin based artist. A devotion that can also be felt in her mammoth sets at the infamous Berlin Panorama Bar where she is one of the resident DJs. Back in the 90’ies the Chile-born musician moved to the German capital, right at the heyday of clubs like E-Werk or Tresor. In 2005 Cocoon released her biggest success called ‚Acid in my fridge‘. Longplayers, mix compilations and coveted club residencies

followed over the past few years. Dinky‘s already fifth studio album is going to be released on Visionquest in June. Half of the continental underground scene will raise their eyebrows and give it a listen. On ‚Dimension D‘ she plays piano, guitar and drums, and also the vocals are from her. We are looking forward to this new piece and of course will not miss her upcoming show in Ibiza. The next opportunity to check her out on the island is at Kehakuma at Space on the 22nd of June.
