August 2015 07_NEWSLETTER AUGUST: Cultural and educational holiday activities with the children from Pata Rât
Events and actions with the community The children from the community went to the Cojocna resort for the first time The education team organized two socialization and recreation activities outside of Pata Rât for the children from the community: a day at a park in the Mărăști neighborhood, and a day at the Cojocna thermal resort. At the beginning of August, the team accompanied a group of 5 children to the IRA Park in Mărăști, where they played on the swings and the slides, played football, ate ice cream and socialized with other children. On August 13th, 7 children, attended by the members of the education team, visited the Cojocna resort for the first time in the commune where three of them go to school. They learned how to swim, and they joyfully splashed the water in the pool with their companions and other children. You can read below the impressions of the education team:
This day was unforgettable for all the 7 children who went to a resort for the first time. The children and their parents started their morning with energy and enthusiasm, and so did the education team, who helped the children prepare for the trip. The trip was as pleasant as it can be, with continuous songs and full of joy. Upon their arrival, the children were awestruck by the large attendance at the resort, and one of the boys, who’s a bit shyer than the rest, refused to leave the car. Eventually, he joined the group in its search for a spot to lay the blankets. After the children laid the blankets and changed into their swimwear, the fun began meekly, but it soon caught on. The whole group played in the pool, and Ljubo gave the fascinated children their first swimming lessons. We had a day full of glee and sunshine! We all entered the saltwater pool, and the children cautiously socialized and played with other children, and their parents, while in the pools. They all shared their toys with each other: their swim rings, their beach balls, and their sunglasses. After we had lunch at the resort, we received the visit of the school mediator of Cojocna school who admired the children and was glad to see the three pupils from the commune’s school. In the end, we had a wonderful day, and the children, who now have some unforgettable memories, thoroughly enjoyed the relaxation. Upon return, their parents were excited to hear about children’s experiences and the things they saw. Both the children and the parents are eager for and excited about the next trip. Calendar and announcements for the community September 8th - International Literacy Day Literacy is a fundamental human right and the foundation for lifelong learning. It is fully essential to social and human development in its ability to transform lives. For individuals, families, and societies alike, it is an instrument of empowerment to improve one’s health, one’s income, and one’s relationship with the world. In a world where education is declared a fundamental human right, with all individuals able to afford the same opportunities for their future – including access to basic education, close to 20% of the population is illiterate. In 1965 UNESCO declared September 8 to be International Literacy Day. Since this proclamation, schools, communities and organizations have united around the world on this day to raise awareness in the hope that it will enable increased access to education in developing nations. The World Literacy Foundation’s 2016 The Sky is the Limit campaign is an exciting opportunity to participate in International Literacy Day, and promote the profile of literacy within schools and local communities.
