Fischer & Frichtel Celebrates Grand Opening at

Wynnbrooke in St. Charles I ntroduction of any new-home community within the city limits of St. Charles is always an attention-getter, since so little land is still available for residential development in the historic municipality. And Fischer & Frichtel’s announcement of the grand opening of the Manors of Wynnbrooke is no exception. Tucked inside Huntington Park, one of the city’s best-known neighborhoods, Wynnbrooke’s private setting off Droste Road, directly west of McNair Park, has already attracted four homebuyers. With only 10 open homesites remaining, the upscale enclave is proof of the area’s desirability. Taking center stage during the inaugural celebration is Fischer’s elegant display model – a modified version of the “Arlington II” ranch, one of 10 stunning ranch, story-&-a-half, and 2-story plans from the builder’s Heritage Collection. Adding to the excitement, homebuyers can take advantage of a grand opening promotional package – free of charge and valued up to $27,000! – that includes a 3-car garage, fireplace, cultured marble in the master bath, and hardwood flooring in the foyer, kitchen, and breakfast room. But that’s not all, according to community sales manager Lorre Schmidt. “We’re also offering an incredible free, options-of-choice incentive to grand opening customers,” Schmidt added. “So, this event is definitely worth a visit.” At 2400-plus square feet, the new Arlington II display is available for purchase at $369,900 and showcases Fischer’s

quality standards and a variety of custom features. The free-flowing floorplan is ideal for entertaining – completely open from the entry foyer through the formal dining room and great room to the breakfast/casual dining area and kitchen. Worthy of special notice when touring are the home’s extensive hardwood flooring and the 12-foot window wall and gas fireplace in the great room. Highlights of the kitchen include an expansive butterfly island, 42-inch maple cabinetry, granite countertops, Whirlpool smooth-top range and microwave, and under-cabinet lighting. Off the service hall to the 3-car garage is a sizable main-floor laundry. The master retreat is wonderfully spacious and served by a luxury bath with cultured marble shower, soaking tub, double-bowl vanity, and a huge walk-in closet. A separate hall accesses the two auxiliary bedrooms and second full bath. Spindled rail accents the central staircase to the lookout lower level, which can be completed for another 800 to 1,000 square feet of recreation, bedroom, and bath space. Set on a generous homesite, the Arlington II is beautifully landscaped, and a lawn irrigation system ensures easy yard care for its future owners. During grand opening, the display will be open for touring on Saturday/ Sunday afternoons and by appointment. Pricing for the Heritage Collection in the Manors of Wynnbrooke starts from $269,900, and Schmidt invites calls for hours and details on the current promotional packages at 636-946-3564. Visitors are sure to be impressed by Wynnbrooke’s “heart of St. Charles” location, close to St. Charles West and Duchesne High Schools and Lindenwood University. Driving directions, floorplans, and other pertinent information can be found on the company website, FandFHomes.com.

ake a drive through any area of St. Charles County and you’ll see homeowners who know how to make their yards a summer showcase of colorful, lush plants. No matter how big your property is or what kind of soil you have, you can brighten up your corner of the world with all kinds of great flowers and groundcovers. Sunny or ShadyKnow Your Yard... Take a walk around your yard and notice where the sun hits the ground at various times of day. Trees and bushes that may not be in full bloom early in the spring will shade areas, so keep this in mind. Decide where you want flowers or other plants and account for potential mowing problems (like: he’ll gripe about mowing around a lot of plants—I’m just sayin’) and whether you will be able to water easily at the location. Visit a neighborhood nursery or look online to find out the mature size of what you’re thinking of planting. Some perennials will spread and need room; cute little bushes can turn into monsters, so choose wisely. Annuals or Perennials Annual plants, those colorful flats you buy each spring, are the easiest way to add instant color to your yard. But you can grow many flowers from seed, too. May is the prime month for direct-sowing sunflowers, zinnias, marigolds and other seeds. Most require little more than regular watering and weeding, and it isn’t as hard as you think. Perennials are the way to go in your yard and garden if you want to plant once and enjoy it for years. Examples are daylilies, peonies and irises. They will pop up each year without much care except perhaps dividing every few years. Wine Country Gardens in Defiance is famous for its great selection of daylilies; they host a Daylily Festival in June and July. Enjoy lunch and sample wines while you take a look at their acres of numerous varieties of daylilies in dozens of hues and shapes, just waiting to be adopted. They are growing in the soil, making them

Give Your Yard A Summer

SMILE!

Plant Annuals, Perennials, Shrubs and Trees with Confidence! healthier and less likely to suffer from transplanting. They also offer annuals, herbs, hanging baskets and other gardening items. Shrubs and Trees: You Can Do It! Many flowering shrubs will work well in small yards; flowering quince, weigela, lilacs and forsythia are great bushes to plant in places where you want color and shade for years to come. They may require pruning to keep them the size you want, but they are great to give your yard beautiful boundaries or pops of color. Trees can be a great asset to your home’s value and can be a wonderful source of shade and tree climbing. You just need to do your homework. Redbud trees, the beautiful lavenderpink harbingers of spring, are good choices for yards of any size. With an average adult height of 7-10 feet, they are shorter than a mighty oak. The crown of the tree (the leaves) spread out likes an umbrella over the years, and after the beautiful 22

spring color is gone they show healthy green leaves that complement your lawn. Dogwood trees are popular in our area for their beautiful spring display; you can get varieties of these beauties in various sizes for your landscape. Crabapple trees are also favorites. Read about trees and visit nurseries to find the right size and type for your needs. Need Help Getting Started If you’re not sure how you want your yard to look or just feel a bit scared to start shoving root balls into the dirt, you can always find help with landscaping at many nurseries in St. Charles County. Frisella Nursery and Landscaping in Defiance has a great reputation for offering professional, knowledgeable help for all sizes of yards and property. Their experts know how to create a design that works with your personal esthetic (your favorite colors and plants!) and will make sure you have the right plant for the right place. You can request a free consultation with them; they offer everything you need to make your yard an oasis that you can enjoy for years. Plants, trees and shrubs, flowers-even waterfalls and outdoor fireplaces…their huge garden center is a treat to visit. You can buy plants, enjoy educational classes and get expert tips every day of the week. Get Growing May and June are prime planting months for many beautiful flowers, shrubs and trees. Business Happenings H.S. Clay House

Leigh and Alan Buehre, owners of the H.S. Clay House

H.S. Clay House sets B&B gold standard for 15 years The H.S. Clay House Bed & Breakfast recently celebrated 15 years of impeccable service as the premier B&B in the town of Augusta, the heart of Missouri Wine Country. Originally built by Dr. Hampson Strother Clay in 1885, this striking Victorian home today has six stylized guest rooms, including two suites, and a separate cottage. Owned and managed by Leigh and Alan Buehre, the H.S. Clay House B&B has been featured in magazines like Midwest Living and Southern Living and been ranked one of the top three most romantic places by the St. Louis Business Journal. “We are a destination rather than just a place to stay at while visiting the wineries,” Leigh said. And that sentiment is borne out by Alan and Leigh’s decades of hotel and hospitality experience, their gourmet cooking, and the captivating antiques and historic charm throughout their amazing B&B. Visit them online at hsclayhouse.com or call 1-888-309-7334 for availability and special events.

The best pizza in town? So say many folks who have visited Stefanina’s over and over again in the 30 years its been in business. Stefanina’s is an institution in O’Fallon and continues to be one of the favorite Italian restaurants in the St. Louis area. On the menu is something for everyone- appetizers galore, more than 20 Italian pastas, 20 or so sandwiches, and a large selection of tasty, homemade entrees. The original recipies, created by Stef in Sicily, have been handed down over the years. The Taste of Italy- A combination of tortellini, cannelloni, manicotti, and mostaccioli, covered with homemade meat sauce or a white cream sauce is a good pasta sampler. You can’t go wrong with any of the delicious pasta dishes. Popular chicken entrees on the menu are the marsala, parmigiana and cordon bleu. Meats include a generous 16 oz. charbroiled porterhouse and hand-breaded pork chops. Dinner entrees come with a choice of soup or salad. The house salad is exceptional. Seafood stuffed flounder and stuffed seafood ravioli are two of my favorites. Sandwhich selections, served with fries, chips or slaw, are a Reuben, sub, Italian sausage, a variety of burgers, eggplant parmigiana and meatball to name a few. A Stefanina’s tradition, their pizza, comes in four sizes and is spectacular! Its St. Louis-style pizza with provel cheese, although mozzarrela can be substituted (or mix the two if your not sure!). Try a specialty pizza- the Stef ’s special is loaded with onion, bacon, pepperoni, mushrooms, black olives, hamburger, sausage and green pepper. And some customers swear by the taco pizza! After 31 years Stefanina’s is still going strong- it remains the go-to place for all occasions. In addition to the original location they have four Express stores, three in St. Charles and one in Chesterfield. The original Stefanina’s Pizzeria is located at 8645 Veterans Memorial Parkway in O’Fallon, MO. Call 636-272-3499 or visit the website www.stefspizza.com and join the email list. Serving lunch & dinner MondaySaturday. Carry out, delivery, catering and party platters available. Stop by any location and see what true Italian food is all about!
