He is married to Cassandra for 36 years and they have two grown sons. Cassie volunteers at Wings. They live in Chesterfield Pointe Villas having moved from St. Peters in the 90’s. Don was born in Indianapolis and graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy and afterwards served for 24 years in the active and reserve Navy. He loves to fly, so leading Wings allows him to combine that passion with helping others. He also flies with the St. Louis Flying Club, is a member of the Civil Air Patrol, St. Louis Aviation Association, Chesterfield Chamber of Commerce and the Flying Club. Don appreciates the Chesterfield area for the close proximity to Spirit Airport, convenient shopping, dining, recreational opportunities and attractive neighborhoods.
Fedora Amis, Writer of Victorian Whodunits Fedora has strived to be a writer for 12 years. She is widowed and lives in Chesterfield and has one son, Skimmer, with whom she writes Science fiction and fantasy. She is originally from Sedalia, the setting for her next book ‘Mayhem at Buffalo Bill’s Wild West’ to be released in 2016. Her current book ‘Jack the Ripper, St. Louis’ is on local newstands. She attended the University of Central MO. Before becoming an author she was a high school teacher. In addition to writing, Fedora loves to travel and attend live theatre. She shops locally at Dierbergs and Dillards and her favorite restaurants are Gitto’s and Manno’s, but Fedora says she is a sucker for Steak & Shake burgers! She loves attending concerts at the amphitheater, public scuptures, the Butterfly House and Faust Park. She encourages others to move here for the excellent schools, great shopping and easy access to anywhere.

Adam is a civic minded politician and is proud of his city which is the ‘hottest of 91 municipalities’ in St. Louis County. He is a member of the West County Chamber, Kiwanis and United Way.

e share this planet with awesome creatures that walk, fly, swim and crawl across the vista of our lives. The many animal sanctuaries, parks, farms and zoos in Missouri offer us a chance to see and learn about the varied animals that populate not only our own backyards but also areas around the world. With cooler weather on its way, September and October are great months to visit one of these Missouri wildlife attractions. Spend quality time with your own two-legged family members learning and enjoying families of other species.

St. Louis Zoo www.stlouiszoo.org 800-966-8877 Our own St. Louis Zoo is one of the few free zoos in the United States. Forest Park is a fitting setting for this attraction; it has been a favorite family destination since it opened in 1904. The Zoo’s 90 acres is home to more than 560 species of animals, many of them endangered and rare. With an emphasis on natural settings and exhibits as well as educational opportunities and entertainment, this is a treasure that every child in West County should experience at least once in his/her lifetime. Each year brings new attractions and enhanced settings for visitors and animals. If it flies, crawls, roars, clops, swims, slithers or strides—you can find it at the Zoo.

Open daily throughout the year (except Thanksgiving and Christmas) the Sanctuary is dedicated to providing help and protection to birds of prey on its more than 300 acres of parkland. In addition to eagles, falcons, hawks, buzzards, owls, vultures, condors and other birds, it is also home to mammals, parrots and reptiles. The Sanctuary houses a wildlife hospital you can tour, a Nature Center, and educational exhibits. It offers wildlife walks, owl events, “Birds in Concert” shows “World Eagle Day” and numerous other events each month. Entry is free: consider one of their many donation options.

Lukas Liquors on the Numerical Rating System for Wine... Some wine buyers get confused with the numerical rating system on wine. They see a wine with 88 points and another wine with 91 points. In fairness, the numeric rating system is a recent phenomenon. Robert Parker, founder of the Wine Advocate, introduced the numerical point system of grading wines in the 1970's. The turn of the 21st century saw a surge by consumers in taking these scores more seriously. The system to rate a wine is done with points, 50 to 100. You can relate this system to an A to F "grade." In general, a 85 to 90-point score on wine is considered "above average" to "good."90 to 95 points is "outstanding" and 95 to 100 points is "extraordinary." Where the rating system gets confusing is the person or organization issuing the ratings. Everybody's taste is different. It's up to you what magazine or critic you want to believe in. Most retailers tend to use the highest rating they can find. They believe their customers will ignore who actually gave a wine their score. A real liquor store posts ratings based on the credibility of the person, not because the score was high. Robert Parker with the Wine Advocate and Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar are the two best wine critics. They receive no endorsement money or advertising dollars from other wineries. If you are ever in doubt about what wines to buy, Robert Parker says "ask the people that sell wine for a living." Now in its eleventh year, the Budweiser Taste of St. Louis welcomes five-star Celebrity Chef Grant MacPherson on Saturday, September 19. Chef MacPherson’s career spans five continents and four decades. He has cooked adventurous fi?ve-star food, developed menus, designed and run kitchens and built top-notch teams at such iconic institutions as the Ra?es Hotel in Singapore, Bellagio Las Vegas, Wynn Las Vegas, Wynn Macau, several Regent Hotels and Four Seasons, Ritz Carlton Big Island, and Sandy Lane Hotel in Barbados. He also collaborated with the late Steve Jobs on dining facilities on Apple’s campus. Chef MacPherson will be showcasing his culinary skills on the Goose Island School of Cooking Stage. Admission is free. New to the 2015 Budweiser Taste of St. Louis is the Goose Island School of Cooking, powered by L'Ecole Culinaire. Local, regional and national chefs – along with beverage experts – will host demonstrations designed to be both fun and educational. Guests will see everything from special cooking techniques to food and beverage pairings to can’t-miss culinary presentations – all in an intimate setting designed to enhance the overall experience. A full lineup for the Goose Island School of Cooking will be announced soon. The Goose Island School of Cooking, powered by L’Ecole Culinaire, is sponsored, in part, by Feast Magazine. The ever-popular 314 Hot Sauce Restaurant Row this year features more than 35 restaurants located from downtown to St. Charles, including past favorites like Annie Gunn’s, Drunken Fish and EdgeWild and newcomers that include Dalie’s (the latest in the Pappy’s family), Walnut Grille, Ices Plain & Fancy in Tower Grove, and Prasino.
