My most recent body of work began in the beginning of the pandemic. I suddenly found myself with a new kind of solitude and a much slower pace of life. I immersed myself in the work and used this time to create paintings that I felt would convey a sense of hope, wonder, and beauty. It was these things that I was seeking and wanted to express. I spent a great deal of time painting and challenging myself to chart new territories. The work surprised me. I found myself discovering and rediscovering shapes, elements, and colors which resonate for me in ways that addressed what lay before me. These paintings assert their own logic and document the times in which they’re made.
