Patricia Rovzar Gallery is proud to present “Spirit World,” a collection of new paintings and sculptures that capture Terry Turrell’s compassion for the animal spirit. With creatures and humans entwined, their mythical forms draw parallels between the nature of man & beast. Symbols referencing ancient civilizations reflect the evolution of man’s relationship with the cycles of life and the beyond, paying tribute to the universal spirit and embracing the unconditional love animals continue to conjure today. A self taught artist, Turrell’s work is distinguished not only by his highly textural surfaces, but by his remarkable range of subject matter and materials. Creating imagery that is most often figurative in nature, the artist favors both painting and sculpting equally, often working within the two mediums simultaneously. Terry Turrell’s paintings and sculptures can be found in both private and corporate collections, and since 1989 he has had numerous solo exhibitions throughout the United States and abroad in Paris, France.

TERRY TURRELL BORN: 1946 Spokane, WA Terry Turrell is an artist of delicate hand using unconventional, often recycled materials to create a beautiful edginess indicative of his Northwest roots. Drawn to art his entire life, Turrell’s innate ability to transform the ordinary or overlooked is as unique as his style. Working intuitively, Turrell creates work that is both innocent and confrontational. His work can easily be defined as the perfect imperfect. As a self-taught artist, Turrell’s work is distinguished by a remarkable range of subject matter and materials. He utilizes found materials for both sculpting and painting. The artwork is most often figurative in nature. It is textural with heavily worked surfaces. He favors both painting and sculpting equally and works with the two mediums simultaneously. Raised in rural northeastern Washington and northern Idaho, Turrell currently resides and works in Seattle, WA. His work has been shown extensively throughout the United States since 1989 SELECTED SOLO EXHIBITIONS 2019 Patricia Rovzar Gallery, Spirit World, Seattle, WA 2018 Patricia Rovzar Gallery, Compassion, Seattle, WA 2017 Patricia Rovzar Gallery, The B-Sides, Seattle, WA 2016 Patricia Rovzar Gallery, Torque, Seattle, WA 2015 Patricia Rovzar Gallery, Forever, Seattle, WA American Primitive Gallery, NY, NY 2014 American Primitive Gallery, NY, NY Grover/Thurston Gallery, Seattle, WA 2012 Grover /Thurston Gallery, Hind Sight, Seattle WA Sue Greenwood Fine Art, Laguna Beach, CA 2011 Galerie Lefor Openo, Paris, France 2010 Grover/Thurston Gallery, Double Vision, Seattle, WA Stewart Gallery, Boise ID 2009 Sue Greenwood Fine Art, Cloud 9, Laguna Beach, CA American Primitive Gallery, New York, NY Outsider Art Fair, New York, NY 2008 Mason Murer Fine Art, Atlanta Grover/Thurston Gallery, Seattle, WA Outsider Art Fair, New York, NY American Visionary Art Museum, Marriage of Art, Science, Philosophy, Baltimore, MD Wright Exhibition Space, Century 21: Dealers Choice, Seattle, WA Center for Intuitive/Outsider Art, Intuit Show of Folk/Outsider Art, Chicago, IL 2007 Sue Greenwood Fine Art, Laguna Beach, CA American Primitive Gallery, New York, NY Galerie Lefor Openo, Paris, France Outsider Art Fair, New York, NY 2005 Sue Greenwood Fine Art, Laguna Beach, CA American Primitive Gallery, Paintings and Sculpture, New York, NY Center for Intuitive/Outsider Art, Intuit Show of Folk/Outsider Art, Chicago, IL Museum of Contemporary Photography, Painting on Photography, Chicago, IL Outsider Art Fair, New York, NY
