Who we are

Saudi Fisheries Company was established by Royal Decree No. 7 / M in 1980 as a Saudi joint stock company in the field of fishing mainly. The company’s objective base was expanded to include the investment of living aquatic resources and related industries and marketing them internally and externally. The State contributes with 40% represented by the Public Investments Fund, and the remaining for individual investors with 60%.

Saudi Fisheries Company is one of the first specialized companies in its field and has accumulated expertise and advanced infrastructure in the marine fishing, aquaculture, logistics, food industry, seafood and wholesale and retail commercial sector, as well as operating and managing a number of restaurants specializing in seafood.

Saudi Fisheries Company provides high quality food products that contribute to the Kingdom’s food security based on the Kingdom Vision 2030 by focusing on quality, food safety and continuous development.

The company owns shrimp and fish farms and three production plants, supported by ice production and storage facilities. In addition, there is a strong supply chain consisting of warehouses in different parts of the Kingdom with a capacity of 3000 tons supported by a fleet of refrigerated transport trucks to maintain the quality of products and ensure access to wide geographical areas, as well as a R & D department that seeks to deal with experts and specialized internal and external research on aquaculture and the manufacture of marine food products.

Our Story

In 1978, the Council of Ministers issued Resolution No. (545), which included the establishment of a joint stock company for fishing in which the government participates by 40%. In 1979, the Council of Ministers issued Resolution No. (35), which included the formation of the first board of directors of the company, where the first meeting of the Board of Directors of the company was held under the chairmanship of His Excellency the Minister of Agriculture and Water at that time Dr. Abdul Rahman bin Abdul Aziz AlSheikh. During the same year, Dr. Nasser bin Othman Al Saleh was appointed as the first general manager of the company, the articles of association of the company was then authenticated. In 1980, the Saudi Fisheries Company was established in accordance with Royal Decree No. 7 / M as a Saudi joint stock company with a capital of SR 100 million.

The Saudi Fisheries Company was established with the aim of carrying out fishing activities and investing in living aquatic resources in the territorial waters of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia according to the specific regulations and standards, as well as the manufacture and marketing of fish products and acquaculutre.

The Company’s headquarters was in the Eastern Province of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (Dammam City) through which the company started its activity in one shop in Dammam and one rented boat used for fishing in the Arabian Gulf. After that began fishing operations in the Red Sea in Jazan where the company then owned two ships.

What we have done in the past years has made us pioneers in the marine products sector and accumulated our expertise. During that period we contracted with international companies for fishing, opened the company’s two branches in Riyadh and Jazan, built four boats, exported the first shipment of shrimp to Japan, weighing about 200 tons. We have also established storage centers for storage and preservation of marine products in various regions. It was also agreed with the Somali government to allow the company to carry out fishing in Somali waters until 2002.

In 1983, fishing activities were completely halted in the Arabian Gulf due to pollution from Iranian oil wells.

In 1988, the establishment of the valueadded seafood project, which was established to provide a range of manufactured marine products to a large segment of consumers in the local market, was approved. The brand (Fisheries) was adopted in 1992 under the company’s logo and business identity. The company owned more than 100 refrigerated trucks for transporting marine products between the production centers and distributing them to the regions and shops.

In 1985, the Saudi Industrial Development Fund approved the financing of the reception and processing center in Dammam for 15 million Saudi riyals. The event was a

on the Red Sea coast in Al-Huraida area with a total area of 7500 square meters. It was licensed for shrimp aquaculture. The project was completed in 1997 with 108 sand ponds and start-up with an investment value of 200 million Saudi Riyals. During 2007, an expansion of the shrimp farm in Al-Huraida was approved with an investment value of SR 12 million and a total of 70 new sand ponds. The total number of ponds reached 178 with a production capacity of 3000 tons per year, which can be expanded to 6,000 tons annually.

In 1990, it was agreed to purchase a fish farm in the province of Qatif for the production of tilapia with a production capacity of 40 tons per year, which was later increased to 200 tons per year, where the experimental production started in 1993.

In 2001, the Company’s shares were listed and traded on the Saudi Stock Exchange (Tadawul). In 2005, the Company’s capital was approved to be increased by SR100 million to become the new capital of SR 200 million. In 2011, the company’s capital increased by SR 335 million to become SR 535 million. Subsequently, in 2013, several projects were approved, most notably the project of floating cages for raising fish in the sea within the Al-Huraida farm, as well as the approval of the establishment of the feed plant within the components of Al Huraida farm.

Bin Sulaiman Al-Muzaini in mid 2018 as a managing director of the company who started to prepare a strategic plan for transformation supported by various ambitious programs and projects approved by the Board of Directors. In the same year, a loan was received to finance the company’s operating activities amounting to SR 130 million. The company’s head office was transferred from Dammam to Riyadh.

In 1994, a concession was granted to some investors in the retail sector. In 2002, the concession was approved to apply it in the Eastern, Central, Western regions and Assir.

In 2002, the company obtained the Quality Management System Certificate 2000: 9001, as well as HACCP and Food Quality. The company also obtained the HACCP certificate in 2002 and was followed by ISO22000 certification in 2009.

In October 2017, a new Board of Directors was elected at its 12th session under the leadership of HE Mr. Tarek Bin Abdullah Al-Rameem and membership of a group of national competencies to develop the company’s business and achieve a financial and operational transformation in its business. Organizational Structure

The Board of

Directors

is responsible for developing and supervising the overall strategies of the company and reviewing the overall roles of all sectors managed by the company in addition to evaluating the methodologies of work, operation and evaluation of the team efficiency in achieving the objectives set, in addition to taking the necessary decisions to develop and implement the administrative and supervisory work in the company.

Quality Control Department

The department is responsible for reviewing performance and production quality standards to achieve local and international standards for food quality and environmental protection, as well as maintaining the safety of food production and sustainability of all stages of operations in a manner that ensures quality from the beginning of production lines until the product reaches the final consumer.

Business Development Department

The department is responsible for carrying out the research and studies necessary to develop and increase excellence in the field of investment of water resources, and developing the techniques used in the operation of factories and aquaculture farms to keep abreast of the latest efficiency and quality strategies. It also studies the market and provides updated and reliable market information and data in the current and future demand expectations, and the wishes of investors and consumers to ensure that Saudi Fisheries Company can develop their productive share.

Aquaculture Department

The executive management responsible for fish farms, hatcheries, shrimp farms, biosecurity and all activities related to aquaculture. The Department works to develop aquaculture techniques to cover commercial production without affecting environmental safety, as well as managing all farm requirements and providing continuous maintenance to maintain the balance between quality and quantity of production.

Supply Chain Department

The executive management responsible for the company’s logistics services, including the organization of all local and external procurement, supplier and manufacturer relationships, international, regional and local transport services, and all warehousing and warehouse management.

Marketing Department

Its role lies in the preparation and development of marketing plans to promote products, design sales offers in coordination with other departments, contract agreements and manage negotiations with agents and distributors to achieve the objectives of geographical expansion and target market share, as well as management and development of the company’s brand, enhance the marketing electronic marketing, development and management of loyalty programs.

It also handles customer relations management, complaints reception and coordination with the Quality Control Department to ensure commercial excellence and complete customer satisfaction.

Financial and Accounting Department

It is responsible for implementing the policies and regulations related to the financial and accounting aspects, preparing and controlling the periodic financial reports and supervising the policies and budgets set by the company and approved by the Board of Directors. The Department is also working on the continuous study of costs and making appropriate recommendations to achieve the target profit margin in coordination with other departments.

Sales Department

The department responsible for developing sales activities and increasing the market share of the company and making the necessary plans to increase the sales of the company either wholesale or retail, as well as management of representatives and points of sale, supervising the operational work in shops, restaurants and central kitchens and continuous development of products in coordination with the Marketing Department.

Transformation Office

The department responsible for overseeing the company’s ongoing strategic transformation project, planning and managing all projects and initiatives in coordination with the relevant executive departments.

Business Sectors

Saudi Fisheries Company works through a number of key sectors that assist in providing marine food products with the highest quality, development and food safety. They are:

MArinE FiShing SECTOr

The company owns and operates a fleet of licensed fishing vessels equipped with the latest navigation technologies, techniques and tools. The company’s fleet consists of 17 medium size fishing vessels with a capacity of 20 tons and a length of 19 meters, in addition to 15 small fishing vessels with a capacity of 1.5 tons and a length of 9 meters. Our fleet is centered in Jazan Port and mainly located in the Red Sea, Jubail Port and Qatif Port as a starting point for fishing in the Arabian Gulf. We work through the marine fishing sector to optimize the exploitation of marine natural resources and to enhance their contribution to the volume and level of production at the company level, in full compliance with the standards and regulations for the conservation and development of marine life.

AQuACulTurE SECTOr

Saudi Fisheries Company is one of the first companies operating in this field in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. The company established the shrimp farm in Al-Huraida Governorate on the Red Sea coast in 1993, which includes 108 ponds with a production capacity of 1743 tons per year. In 2007, the extension of the shrimp farm by the addition of 70 soil ponds with a capacity of 1257 tons per year, bringing the total production capacity of the shrimp farms to 3000 tons per year, which can be developed to reach 6000 tons per year. The company also implemented the project of floating cages for fish farming in 2013 with a production capacity of 611 tons per year, which can be expanded to 5000 tons per year and the project is still being implemented.

In 1990, the company established a fish farm in the province of Qatif specialized in the production of tilapia with a production capacity of 300 tons per year.

The company’s farms are equipped with hatcheries, incubators and supporting facilities for the farming operations, and an integrated system for feeding fish and shrimp with the best types of feed that achieve the greatest nutritional benefit for each species. The pond water is managed by giant pumps pumping 1,200 square meters per second of pure Red Sea water. A specialized team monitors and supervises any changes in the surrounding factors and to deal with them efficiently in order to ensure the safety, quantity and quality of farmed fish.

MAnuFACTuring

One of the most important sectors that contribute mainly to raising the efficiency of investment in the field of fisheries by manufacturing various types of marine food products as well as the latest equipment of storage, warehousing and transportation required by the company to deliver the product to the full quality to the client.

The Saudi Fisheries Company has a number of factories and laboratories distributed among riyadh, Jeddah, Dammam and Jizan. it is equipped with a high level of manufacturing technology and is iSO certified in quality. These factories are classified according to the following industries:

• Value-added product plants

Saudi Fisheries Company owns specialized plants in sea food products, where sorting, cleaning and cutting of fish, as well as preservation, cooking and packing are carried out within laboratories subject to the highest standards of quality and health control, and produce approximately twelve different food products. The company is working to hold alliances with companies specialized in food processing to increase its product base and develop its nutritional specifications.

• Supporting Product Factories

As production has increased, the need to establish factories and support plants to carry out simple production processes such as manufacturing of storage and packaging supplies, ice production and freezing mechanisms has been increased.

• Fodder and Fish Food Products Factory

The Company owns a plant for the manufacture of fish products with a production capacity of 100 thousand tons/year. The plant was established within the company’s farm in Al-Huraida to provide the necessary supply of high quality fodder for the company’s farms and other farmers in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

The logistics sector is responsible for procurement, supply, warehousing, logistics and all works that deliver the company’s products to the end consumer. The logistics sector includes:

• Procurement

Saudi Fisheries Company employs a qualified team with accumulated experience in the procurement of local and imported marine products. Our purchases cover the key local auctions in Dammam, Qatif, Jubail, Jeddah and Jazan, as well as import business through alliances with international suppliers in the UAE, India, China, Sri Lanka, several European countries and Africa.

• Transportation

A fleet of refrigerated transport trucks, in accordance with the Saudi standards for the transport of refrigerated and frozen food. The company has 50 trucks that carry about 5000 kg of products every day to cover the central, eastern, western and southern regions. The company endeavors to achieve the well-considered geographical expansion of transportation business to ensure that the product is delivered to the customer in his / her location.

• Warehouses

The Company owns and operates a large number of huge warehouses, which are prepared according to the sanitary requirements of food warehouses. The capacity of these warehouses is about 3000 tons, which can be extended to 5000 tons
