more popular, but nonetheless both are a great way to consume the necessary amount of protein while saving on fat, cholesterol and calories. Fish oils are oils derived from fish rich in omega 3 fatty acids such as mackerel, tuna, salmon, sturgeon, mullet, bluefish, anchovy, sardines, herring, trout, and menhaden. Fish oil is beneficial in relation to the heart and the bloody system. It is used to lower blood pressure and triglyceride levels and also helps prevent heart disease and stroke. There is some scientific evidence that suggest that fish oil helps lower triglycerides and helps prevent heart disease and stroke when taken in the recommended amounts. Omega 3 fatty acids help reduce pain and swelling in the body as well as reduce blood clotting. They provide about 1 gram of omega-3 fatty acids in about 3.5 ounces of fish. On average we need about 4 grams, but dosage is variable depending on need.

Why Supplement? Helpful tips on staying healthy with supplements • Monica Vargas •

T

he average person in today’s world lives unfocused on themselves while more focused on a long, overwhelming list of daily responsibilities. The issue we should focus on is unhealthy bodies and unclear minds. More people are making a conscious effort to improve their habits, eating better quality foods and incorporating exercise into their hectic schedules.

The truth is a normal person surpasses caloric intake to maintain a healthy body fat and under consumes the necessary nutrients to maintain health. Therefore, certain supplements are essential.

When aiming for a healthier lifestyle, we encounter a large, sometimes overwhelming amount of supplements to choose from, but which do we really need? Many people believe there is a magic pill that will help achieve what many of the ads describe: quickly losing unwanted fat, gaining muscle mass and increasing your energy.

Simply put, protein powder is a substitution for protein in a powder form. There are many different types derived from various sources from both animal and plants, for example, whey, casein, soy, rice, pea, and hemp. Both types are cost efficient, easy to prepare and great for people on the go. When it comes to taste and nutrition, animal proteins are far

8 Celebrityeventsmagazine.com | Issue 57

The top three supplements that are beneficial and necessary for all of us are protein powder, fish oil, and calcium with magnesium.

“More people are making a conscious effort to improve their habits, eating better quality foods and incorporating exercise into their hectic schedules.” Lastly, calcium with magnesium; without calcium in your diet, the body will rob this nutrient from your bones, which weakens them. Calcium combined with magnesium not only supports your bones, but also keeps your teeth and muscles healthy. It’s important to take these minerals together since calcium alone can cause constipation, whereas magnesium will prevent this side effect. Choose a supplement that contains 600mg of calcium with 400mg of magnesium and take once a day. So while the level of importance is debatable, these are some of the main supplements that are beneficial for the general function of our body and that aid in sustaining health. Make sure to check with your doctor and also pay attention to your overall nutrition.

ith the arrival of the summer season, we are more likely to spend long seasons in the sun or taking long baths in the sea or pool. But this, that makes us enjoy both, it may be too dangerous for our skin and our hair. If when we go to the beach, we protect our skin with protective plots, we also take special care in serving our hair, might suffer much from the effects of sun, chlorine, salt or sand. The scalp is an extension of our skin and is also affected by Hormonal changes in women and therefore suffers an erosion of elastin, collagen and that affects the quality of hair. Over time certain hormonal changes occur that affect the skin and hair. In women, for example, the drop in estrogen levels decrease the production of sebum in the sebaceous glands, which affects the hair leaving it dry and dull. The extrinsic or premature aging is given by the constant exposure to aggressor elements like sun, hard water, chlorine, detergents, dyes etc., which are generating a damaged, dry and lifeless appearance of our hair, i.e. the washed, dried, brushed and combed, daily repeated over time, are chronic trauma to our real hair, not to mention the excessive treatments or inappropriate chemicals we submit to our hair. This action adds environment, i.e. the cumulative daily exposure to light effects, wind, heat, cold, pollution, etc..

IMMIGRATION REFORM What Should America Do? • Roger Davila

A

merica...The land of the Free? Home of the Brave? What should we answer to those questions? Are we really the land of opportunity? People have often referred to The United States of America as the “Big Brother” of the world, but are we really? Lately the hottest topic that is surrounding our country is the influx of immigrants that are coming by the hoards into our country. Children are being sent from Under-Development countries in order for them to have a decent life, a chance of creating a better life for themselves as well as for their families. We have often viewed our country as a country in which if we work hard enough we can make all of our dreams come true. So why do so many of us that actually were born here take all of those privileges for granted? Why are the numbers of people that are on some type of government assistance rising? Could we blame that on the rise in immigration numbers, or just pure laziness on our part?

Photography by: Alejandra Araiza

20 Celebrityeventsmagazine.com | Issue 57

We, as a country, or moreover; as a society have become dependent on technology, machinery and just pure comfort. We hate what we do not understand. We blame our misfortunes on someone or something else. That something else right now, that punching bag that we are beating are the immigrants that are coming over from poverty ridden countries attempting to make a better life for themselves. All we hear on the news, radio, and in the streets are that they are here “taking our jobs!!!” Do we really believe that the people that are coming over are really here to do

that? The laziness in us truly does believe that. The people that are on government assistance or unemployment do blame it on them. As for myself, I believe that they want the same opportunities that they cannot get in their own country. Opportunities that WE take for granted each and everyday. Immigration is the hottest topic in America right now. All that is spoken is that Immigration is bad, they are criminals, drug dealers, murderers and thieves. But statistically we already have that in our country without having them come over. “Close down the border!!,” “Do not let them in!!,” Do people realize how much commerce is done by people coming over from Mexico to shop here in the United States? As of yet , we have not been able to find a suitable solution for the number of people that cross our borders on a daily basis. Some cross legally and some not so. Today it was announced that we are to be getting National Guard troops to monitor our borders. What are we becoming as a country? Immigrants have been coming to this country since it was founded. What could be the possible solution in all of this. America, Land of the Free? Where dreams are made? What is the solution? Does anyone know? Do we factor in what we have been taught as children…love thy Neighbor, or just the bottom line? If our fore-fathers were not allowed into this country in the first place most of us probably would not be here. A better life, that is all they want. An opportunity. A chance. The American Way.

Some of them revel in it, trying on every last trend as it’s “new for fashion,” obsessed with transforming their look with the flick of a brush or the color of their lips. Others keep it simple, sticking with the bare basics and often forgetting to put makeup on at all. And many just stay with the classic and traditional look they’ve always had.

#BACKPACKS • Mariana Fishburn

F

ear not, friends, for I am referring to something far cooler than the ol’ school bag you spent years lugging around extra pounds of books that belonged in your locker (you had forgotten the combination quicker than your times tables). Remember the piercing back-pain shooting up your spine as you thought of what that backpack represented? …Homework, sleepless nights, stinky P.E. uniform (Ew!), and that TI-83 calculator. Fun times. Though backpacks started making a comeback on the runways in Fall/Winter 2013, it seems this trend has come to stay. Why wouldn’t it…? Everything you have ever wanted fits inside, neat as ever – unlike your favorite hobo bag that unfortunately becomes a black hole for keys, phone, and lipstick.

From Chanel’s canvas graffiti-print to Free People’s vegan leather, this season’s pouches will surely please punksters, prepsters and bohèmes alike. These carryon’s can be useful in hauling your laptop to/from the workplace or storing your sun hat and nice camera during a music festival.

“Everything you have ever wanted fits inside, neat as ever.” So let’s join the bandwagon, Houston, for practicality does not always meet fashion. When it does, we should celebrate! Here are a few of my favorites I nabbed from my Pinterest board titled ‘Pack it up. Issue 57 | Celebrityeventsmagazine.com

The Houston Market is Only Getting Hotter!! • Maira Rondan

As you have already heard, Houston is sizzling with hot real estate deals and it’s only getting hotter for sellers. Sellers, if you are in the market but your house is not attracting attention like the one down the street, here are four cost effective ways to help boost showings. MAKE SURE THERE IS CURB APPEAL Get the front yard and back yard cut along with trimming the trees and bushes. Consider adding some flower beds with mulch to give the house more color if you do not already have some. There are many different ways to do this without going over board or breaking the bank. INVEST MONEY IN STAGING Do not think this is a waste of time and effort. Whether you have already moved out or have your own furniture in the home, I recommend you ask a staging professional to help you stage the home in a way that appeals to most buyers. Removing clutter such as kid’s toys or mail off the counter tops will make the space feel and look larger. The more neutral and clean you stage the home, the more buyers your home will be able to attract. PROFESSIONAL PHOTOGRAPHY Now that the home is staged, why not get pictures taken to show it off, right?! Your agent needs to have pictures to post on the listing. These too need to stand out and attract buyers because online is the first place buyers go to shop for a home. There are many companies that can provide an affordable package deal with great angles and lighting that will highlight all of your home’s features. COMPETITIVELY PRICING YOUR HOME Last but not least, it is time to go live and showcase your home. With that said, talk to your real estate professional to guide you in pricing your home competitively. The agent’s goal is to

price your home so that you not only get top dollar, but to sell it within a reasonable amount of time. Even though the market is hot and homes are selling for above market price, I do not recommend pricing your home too aggressively from the beginning. Home buyers may not even give your home a second look if the price is priced well above market value. So follow these tips to make sure your home sizzles in this HOT Houston market.

Living With Success

Mario Trevino

S

uccess in the world traditionally asserts base years, and the revolution of the generation of today is a result of ambition and perseverance with the right tools. “The word success translates into a lifestyle, not a time or a place, the key is not to have success but being successful all the time.” Mario Trevino is a typical young success. He was born in the state of Texas and studied there for 20 years. Living in the city H. Matamoros, Tamaulipas. In high school he was part of the American football team. During college, he received several awards of ‘Dean’s List’ getting compliments in the areas of engineering and business. He was expelled from two universities, one in U.S. and one in México; to seek a solution to the economic crisis that lived in his house, he fell in the consumption of prohibited substances. This led to the point that caused him brain damage, to the extent that the damage prevented him from speaking and staying focused, among other things. Recognizing that he had a problem, he seeked help from his parents. He was sent to a specialized rehabilitation center 3 times, since he had relapsed on his consumption, until he successfully overcame his problems and focused all his energy on a company called VEMMA, where he was invited to participate in. In just five months, he has become a leading Diamond level, achieving recognition in the same business internationally. It has caused a revolution among the young people. inviting them to participate in goals to have a motivation and a goal and achieve make a positive change in their lives and in their families. His dream is to make a change and make a difference in the world starting with Mexico. What’s the secret of your success? I believe the secret to my success is making my parents proud. After all I have been through; the only thing I can give them is my success. Have they not raised me, have they not fed me, have they not educated me? Above that I can say my secret to success is trying to become a better person of who I was yesterday, my past does not define my future. You might be thinking that I want to prove everyone wrong, but in the contrary, I need to prove to myself that I can achieve what I actually want. Change

the mindset from saying it is not possible to IT IS POSSIBLE. Make the decision that you are already successful, act as if. It’s a simple idea you need to adopt to become successful. What would you advice people that are down or depressed? If you are reading this, I do not know what you are going through, what dream, what goal, what aspiration you are following and have not achieved at this moment. All I want you to know is that it is possible. You are not alone, you are not the only one in the world with those problems, all you need to do is make a mind shift and focus on the positive. Storms in life, rough times in life, are there to pass; not to stay. Pain is temporary, there is always a cure. If people criticize you for who you are or who you want to become, it’s your life not theirs. Someone elses opinion of you does not have to become your reality. Don’t go through life as a victim, go through life and face it as a winner, if you are going through a tough time, don’t question yourself ‘WHY’, but question ‘WHAT FOR’. Don’t view challenging days as bad days, change and shift to ‘CHARACTER’ building days. Always focus on the positive.

I believe the secret to my success is making my parents proud. After all I have been through; the only thing I can give them is my success.

What is #YPR? The YPR is a movement of young people getting together for the first time in history and actually taking action towards change. We challenge the status quo and create our own version of how life should be lived. The YPR is full of great people, amazing stories, positivity, passion,

leadership, and hope. We’re stepping away from the daily struggle, the minimum wage, the paycheck to paycheck, the working from 9 to 5 kind of life. Our generation refuses to make that our lifestyle. We’ve got bigger dreams and goals in mind. BE THE CHANGE YOU WISH TO SEE IN THE WORLD. To dare is to lose ones footing momentarily. Not to dare is to lose oneself. If you aren’t in over your head, how do you know how tall you are? With the wise words from Steve Jobs “Here’s to the crazy ones. The misfits. The rebels. The troublemakers. The round pegs in the square holes. The ones who see things differently…..Because the people who are crazy enough to think they can change the world are the ones who do.” Yes, this is a revolution… -WE ARE THE YPR-

How do you see yourself in the future and what are you going to do to get there? I see myself as a public figure, not a government position or celebrity of sort, but someone of value and integrity, someone people can look up to. I see myself as a global leader, whether I did a charity of some sort, a business of some sort, or changed a whole generation through my example. I may have a lot of visions as to how I see myself, but I see myself in peace and happiness. Not having to worry about anything, and not only me, but the community as well. The way I will get there is by vision, vision will take you anywhere you extend it to. The opportunities will automatically come, the doors will automatically open for you if you simply believe. The only task that will get you there is having an open mind and be at the right place, at the right time, and with the right people. If you see the opportunity for change, seize it.
