FABRIC INTERFACE SOCIAL HOUSING IN JOÃO PESSOA 4 Favela Studio . Spring 2017 Professor Livia Loureiro . Texas A&M University Collaboration with Sophia Kountakis, Alyssa Cabrera, Shunsuke Araki Our proposal for Joao Pessoa’s social housing project utilizes rasterized analysis and curved profiles to extract contextual information and choreograph the human condition. The scaling and formal treatment of pixels juxtaposes the architectural gestures visible to the human eye and the machine’s vision through the satellite image. The new life-work interface integrates itself into Rio Paraiba and Villa Nassau’s historic district through continuous lines that give and take private space. Those same lines then materialize to direct visual and physical connections between people from one side of the site to another and within itself.

IN BETWEEN RESIDENTIAL-LABORATORY BARCELONA 8 Study Abroad Studio . Fall 2016 Professor Miquel Rodriguez . Barcelona Architecture Center Collaboration with Francisco Javier Rivera The significance of the objects Barcelona has aggregated to create its urban mass go beyond the formal intentions flattened on each facade. Behind them and in between the slabs resides the floating consciousness of generations of people with the desire of immediate gratification yet long term impact. We investigate this idea by pushing life and work under one mass and using program as a series of inputs that discuss the giving and taking of public and private space. To recover the sentimental monumentality that was lost with the consumption of technology in the daily routine, the project presents itself through the gentle outputs that reside between each design element. In the end the project returns the ground level to Barcelona’s surface as an urban gesture that operates at the city’s scale while providing the classic pedestrian interface people utilize everyday.

FOREIGN OBJECTS FASHION CENTER FOR VIVIENNE WESTWOOD 12 Indexicality Studio . Fall 2015 Professor Gabriel Esquivel . Texas A&M University A retail project for designer Vivienne Westwood. The process begins by juxtaposing two references: The Rachofsky House by Richard Meier and the Shanghai Dress by Vivienne Westwood. An index of information is extracted from this architectural and non-architectural material. Critical edge, corner and ground conditions emerge from the iterations of drawings, models and images which bring the canonical precedent (Meier) and contemporary fashion (Westwood) under speculation to amalgam new objects. The objects produced include show rooms, shops and presentation spaces. Once placed on site, these new spaces become subject to Houston’s flawed infrastructure. A site fragmentation reflects this urban condition and connects both objects through an underground space (the runway). Ultimately, project rejects the fragmented aggregation of objects and highways that populate the city.

AS BUILT DRAWINGS OBJECT REDUX: KAHN AND SERLIO 16 T4T Lab . Spring 2016 Professor Adam Fure . Texas A&M University Collaboration with Cody Clancy, David Forero, Matthew Foster As Built Drawings is an exploration of the manifestation of form through line and figure, utilizing deformation as a set of tools to achieve meta-reality. “To operate critically with the instrument of architecture implies a deformation of architecture itself; it has to change from language into meta language, it must speak of itself, it must explore its own code without leaving it, except for very carefully measured experiments.� - Manfredo Tafuri A characteristic of the post-digital era is the access to the historical cannon as a set of data. We acquired freely accessible drawings and geometries, treated them as raw data, and through the deformation of architectural tools, produced a new geometry.
Through the continuous deformations we uncover the resilience of the substance that the operations cannot exhaust. International exploitation of the methods of drawing, such as technique and viewpoint in relation to the directionality of the cut-plane of such drawings (plan-oblique, axonometric cuts etc.) produces the reality of the drawing figure through the forced occurrence of conditions, languages, and parts. The produced is a new object; changing the inflection of qualities in the original geometries establish new form and spatial configurations. The qualities produced, such as the excess overlap of line and figure (treatment of pochĂŠ, thick-thin, delamination, corner and edge conditions) provoke new realities of architectural language: a visual meta-language. Expressed within each reality is anew architectural 18

CHELSEA ART LIBRARY IN NEW YORK 20 Integrated Studio . Fall 2017 Professor Koichiro Aitani . Texas A&M University Collaboration with Luis Fernando Muñoz The project is about the contingencies related to the consumption of information in a library today. With an inherent interest in Chelsea’s past relationship with film and theatre, it became relevant to treat such consumption of information as a performance of itself to give a sense of belonging to a gentrified area of New York. Therein the performance is not done by the project’s formal qualities but by the user who defines the spatial uses as they navigate an open stage. Populated by what appear to be ephemeral objects, users navigate above, below, next to, and sometimes within these props that facilitate intimate spaces for contemplation or exposed spaces for expression. “Movie stars who have led adventure packed lives are often too egocentric to discover patterns, too inarticulate to express intentions, too restless to record or remember events. Ghostwriters do it for them. In a way, I was Manhattan’s ghostwriter” -Rem Koolhaas

Extracurricular . Spring-Fall 2015 BUILD TAMU . Design Team Leader Completed The premise of the Texas Aggie Medical Clinic project was to design and construct a habitable envelope within a conventional shipping container. The interior configuration is a wellness platform open to optimization by each destinations operators. During their construction, a manual was utilized to instruct volunteers (both students and staff) across the Texas A&M campus. At each destination, teams of doctors, nurses, and volunteers welcome and operate the clinics. They currently serve in Haiti, Honduras, Costa Rica and Iraq. TEOKSET FAZER VISITOR CENTRE, THE EXHIBITION 32 Professional . June 2016 Ateljé Sotamaa . Design Team Completed An object for objects; a golden sculpture in a deep blue space. This particular exhibition for the Fazer Visitor Centre tells the story of the ‘Fazerin Sininen’ chocalate: the history of its recipe, the origins of cocoa, the making of chocolate, and sustainable production in collaboration with communities around the Cocoa Belt. The golden sculpture mimics Karl Fazer’s signature and houses the 12 objects representing each chapter of the story. Altogether the sensations produced by the fluidity of the shelf and the detailed artifacts elevate Fazer’s products to an artistic level.
