Hello - and welcome! You have now entered Pauliina Nissi’s (that’s me!) professional portfolio. Thank you so much for showing interest in my work! I recently graduated from Metropolia University of Applied Sciences with a Bachelor’s Degree in Fashion and Clothing. I also have another degree: I’m Artesan of Clothing and Textile. These two degrees and several internships undertaken within various organizations, not to mention my great personal enthusiasm, have resulted in a valuable and highly adaptable skill set to meet the requirements of the constantly evolving and self-reinventing world of Fashion, Clothing and Textile. My long and multifaceted education has prepared me for various tasks and different jobs. Nevertheless, my core competence lies in garment design, production and management. I am familiar with managing the entire process of garment production: from design to evaluating technical details, drafting patterns, creating tech packs (flat sketches, detailed images, measurement charts) and grading patterns. Quality control, fitting of garments and product development is also something I excel at. My knowledge of clothing materials; fabrics, knits, yarns et cetera, is vast. However, I am an avid learner and not afraid to take on new challenges. I am always looking to expand my skillset and find out more.

So, what’s new? What to expect?

lo

In this portfolio you’ll delve into the world of Fashion, Clothing and Textile. You get to explore the many aspects of my professional skills – from user-centered and purposeful clothing design to extensive technical details.

Thank you so much for your time. So, there you go! I’m glad you read this all through. But do keep going – there are things on the next few pages that might very well be of interest to you.

URBAANI KASV

The strict lines of urban architecture and the spontaneous q city vegetation form the basis for Kaiko’s SS19 collection U KASVU. From fluid angles of weeds squeezing their way throu pected cracks on the pavement to somewhat rigid yet soothi city planning. Softly curved seams offer a subtle sense of m and look fresh when juxtaposed next to the minimalistic ou the collection. The unisex design focuses on a sense of com familiarity through clean and strong lines, which are upda modern and exciting twists. The collection experiments with and novel lengths, thus adding surprise and lighthearted che clothes. The overall look, however, is pure and functional: Scandinavian taste. Therefore, ease and practicality are key.

URBAANI KASVU collection is designed for children aged between 2 and 7 years, for both girls and boys. These clothes want to challenge the outdated rules that govern what small boys and girls are supposed to wear and, most importantly, grow up to be. The children are eager to explore their surroundings: often climbing park trees and getting overly excited about traveling on a tram. The little things inspire them. They explore, they question, they ponder. Everything interests these little humans: new foods, politics, mousetraps. These children are fortunate to have parents who are painfully aware of the damage their choices can cause to the planet and its people. Therefore, they want to emphasize the importance of environmentally friendly and ethical choices in life to their children, too. Mothers and fathers just want to guarantee their offspring a future world where they can still be inspired by the little things.

DERE EST FACERE

/ to dare is to do

Fewer and fewer men are required to wear a suit to work since casual dress codes have taken over numerous offices. But by no means has the suit died out – it has merely taken on a new form.

n entire generation of young men more interested in what they ever before and they have reclaimed the suit as a way to express s. They appreciate the sense of a classic suit but crave newness and rary elements. Therefore, they no longer want to be constricted by nal suit but rebel against the attire that has been around for some These young men opt out of the unobtrusive greys and navys as ditional accessories such as ties and cuff-links. Instead, they choose t cuts and eye-catching prints. Traditional accessories have given w ways of wearing suits: this generation pairs them with almost anym oversized T-shirts to cropped jeans, hoodies and combat boots.

assic pieces with a modern, fun aesthetic, AUDERE EST FACERE clothes that celebrate self-expression. Refusing to compromise on ividuality nor quality, the pieces are versatile with a modern and fun make for long-lasting wardrobe staples. It offers a range of suits apor everyday, casual dressing. Therefore, comfort and ease of wear the base for the material choices; natural fibers make the clothes and durable, whereas elastane adds movement. The general tone collection is classic and even traditional in many ways yet the pieces y modern and youthful feel. Novel cuts and bold prints make these out.

A concept collection.

sounds of silence Silence and solitude, they are an endangered species. It is obvious to everyone that we are now living in a very noisy and distracting world. Unwanted sounds follow us everywhere from the moment we climb out of bed in the morning. Silence has become increasingly difficult to come by. It is not, however, obvious to everyone just how important silence really is. Silence produces great benefits, intellectually as well as emotionally. The brain has a chance to evaluate the flood of data, to organize it and then to discard of what is useless and to make room for something new and unique. In other words, in silence we regenerate. For evolutionary reasons, excessive noise makes us tense and causes anxiety. Silence releases that tension and relaxes both the body and the brain. Without noise, our bodies and minds are at ease. Therefore, the pieces of clothing are meant to provide a shelter, in a way. To protect the wearer from both the countless people and endless noise of the city and also from harsh winds and freezing rain. The collection provides pieces that are easy to layer to create comfortable yet city-appropriate outfits.

All the pieces are easy to wear. They are roomy enough to allow movement and expression of any sort, without looking sloppy or ill-fitting. Something to wrap oneself into when the real life gets just a little too real. The angular lines and layering in the collection take inspiration from the urban environment. Strict angles of architecture and minimalistic shapes of city planning. Layering and seamlines in unexpected places add surprise and interest to the clothes - like pockets which can be found under the layers. The warm, sumptuously soft materials bring much-needed comfort and ease to the clothes. Slightly fuzzy wools, brushed sweatshirt fabrics, cozy stretch cottons.
