Roger Protz, the editor of The Good Beer Guide was asked to recommend pubs with all the cosy features you need to keep freezing temperatures at bay - roaring fires, good company, and a fine pint - and came up with Ye Olde Gate Inn Brassington. He wrote “Ye Olde Gate Inn, Brassington, Derbyshire Simply the perfect winter pub: you won’t find a cosier place in the country. It’s nearly 400 years old, and you can feel the history – Bonnie Prince Charlie’s soldiers were billeted here on their march to London, and some of the oak beams came from ships of the Spanish Armada. It pulls off the rare trick of being a genuine local, packed with villagers, but thoroughly warm and welcoming to visitors, too.” When you step over the threshold, there is a feeling of stepping back in time. The traditional, historic feel has been retained while also providing a comfortable, friendly atmosphere in which to enjoy some fine food and drink. In Winter, the whole area is kept snug and cosy with open fires. A frequent watering hole for walkers - Ramblers Association, local Rambling Clubs and walkers resting up after trekking along the High Peak Trail, visitors enjoy a menu that ranges from old pub favourites like filled baguettes, ploughman’s, homemade Steak and Guinness Pie to locally caught Trout, Steaks and Duck with Mango Compote.

The Rising Sun is situated in the heart of Derbyshire, with breath-taking views; our prime location makes us a hotspot for visitors to the Peak District. We are in walking distance from the High Peak Trail which is popular with walkers, and Black Rocks which is a local attraction.

At the Rising Sun we are passionate about serving great homemade food, and we use local suppliers for our meat, fruit, vegetables and dairy products. We also have a range of real ale available. We are child and dog friendly and always have a bowl of water available for you four legged friends.

The Rising Sun was originally built as a farm house and barn in the early 1700’s and it wasn’t until the twentieth century that it became exclusively a public house, there is a children’s play area around the side of the pub as well as boules courts and you can regularly see our cup winning teams in action on a Sunday night. So come along to The Rising Sun and enjoy homemade traditional pub food, ales, wines, spirits in a warm relaxing atmosphere.
