Artificial intelligence control agency

“The potential of artificial intelligence is real in the sense that if A.I. robots leave the laboratory it could signal the end of the human race, however let’s be practical.” Michio Kaku

“Artificial intelligence is not just another cool gadget or another nifty little thing. It’s the last invention humans will ever need to make.” Nick Bostrom

xxl The year 2033, mankind escaping from the impoverish Earth desire to return to nature. Mars and its filled with green crater-city seem to be the perfect place for this. Good conditions and release from ubiquitous technology make, that the next craters are made suitable for living. The year 2070, more than a million people declare themselves to be Martians. The red planet begins to look more and more like Earth...

“You need to live in a dome initially, but over time you could terraform Mars to look like Earth and eventually walk around outside without anything on... So it’s a fixer-upper of a planet”. Elon Musk

WHAT? THREATS OF FUTURE

OFFICE BUILDINGS IN THE FUTURE

PROPOSAL

Impoverishment of Earth. The dangers of nuclear war, depletion of resources, overcrowding or collisions with asteroids are so real that colonization of another planet is necessary. According to Stephen Hawking, humanity should colonize another planet within 100 years.

Office buildings denial. Artificial Intelligence will minimise the need for human work. Mental work in today’s sense will not exist. Futurologist Faith Popcorn predicts that in 2025 robots will replace 30% today’s jobs.

Information and technology supersaturation - Human 3.0. The use of nanotechnology, biotechnology, and neurotechnology to support the organs and intellect is associated with the symbiosis of the human body and technology. Cutting off the ubiquitous information will be almost impossible.

“What’s different this time is computer scientists are working on building machines that can out compete us in everything we can do. If machines can do all the work or even 50 per cent of the jobs that we used to do, what will people do?” Professor Moshe Vardi of Rice University

Artificial Intelligence Control Agency (AICA). Threats to our planet and full spreaded Artificial Intelligence on the Earth are imperatives to locate AICA headquarters on Mars. By 2070, the majority (about 95%) of the professions will disappear from the market. Nowadays physical work disappears, so as intellectual work will in the future. Office buildings will become completely unnecessary. Humans will have a creative and entertaining style of life that will be much more affordable. Intellectual work will only be for the most intelligent people working on the security of the biggest processing power - AI. All this will take place in the AICA building, which except the work centre will also be the city’s cultural and entertainment hub for the whole colony.

WHEN? Artificial intelligence. Full development is expected for the year 2050, although it is assumed that computers already in 2029 are expected to outperform all humans in all of its work. Elon Musk plans to start the colonisation of Mars in 2020 and predicts that by 2060 there will be one million people already. Bostrom cited a survey of many of the world’s top AI researchers, conducted by Nils Nilsson, a leading American computer scientist. Based on this survey, Nilsson estimated there was a 10 per cent chance of reaching AI by 2030, a 50 per cent chance by 2050, and 95 per cent by 2100.

Earth in a hundred years. „Although the chance of a disaster to planet Earth in a given year may be quite low, it adds up over time, and becomes a near certainty in the next hundered years. By that time we should have spread out into space, so a disaster on Earth would not mean the end of the human race”. Stephen Hawking

The Artificial Intelligence Control Agency is located in the Handlová crater on Mars. Far away from the magnetic radiation, strong winds at the equator, close to hydrogen which is necessary to create colonies, in the proximity of silicon which future is doubtful for transistors, because of minor conduction abilities in comparison to graphene. Nevertheless, it can be useful in a variety of different inventions.

Workplace - the CORE. The dedicated part for employees is located in the centre of the volume. The CORE consists of a three-level Faraday cage. The outer shell, made of graphene is at the same time a data server. The intellectual nature of human work will not require specific places and positions. Three levels of green zones referring to terrestrial vegetation and recreation spaces will create proper conditions for creative acts. Each floor is made from a protocell (explained on the 4th page), making the space easily adaptable to the needs of employees. The individuality of working environment will never be named as it is nowadays. A shape and exact function of space will be designable by users to fit their needs for a particular task.

The visual aspect of architecture. AICA as the highest structure in the crater, it is comparable to City Hall in the centre of a city. It visually impacts citizens’ with the feeling of control over AI. Cladding made from protocell seems to crystalise in the vertical direction. This is a symbol of security over confidential information in the CORE, located in the upper part of the building.

OFFICE BUILDING Diagram of employee selection.

Who works? Machine-assisted persons are working in the Artificial Intelligence Control Agency. Employees are selected in terms of skills and demand for the task under consideration. Work in 2065 will be elitist, non-obligatory and accessible only to the most educated and intelligent people. Where do they work? Entire office is localised in the centre of AICA headquaters. Humans will be able to work from anywhere thanks to the available technology, but due to the agency’s confidential nature, decisions must be made in a safe environment away from undesirable surveillance. Additional protection in form of working Faraday cage is designed.

Accessibility of public spaces.

There is no permanent working team in the AICA office building. Employees are selected according to the needs and problems that require a solution at a given moment.

Accessibility of work zone. Office space is only available to employees from the bottom and the top of the core. They have the ability to move freely between levels.

Access to the building is possible on either side and almost anywhere. The only restriction on accessibility is the external structure of the building. Most translucent at the bottom, crystallizing upward.

Spatial aspect. The CORE is hovering over 1/3 part of the structure to release ground floor which is a public space. Foundation of the building is people. Awareness of offices overhead makes people feel patriarchy in a direct way. They easily observe work of organisation and unify with the structure using Faraday cage to unwind and disconnect from overinformed environment.

Accessible to everyone, Faraday cages are place for rest and quieten down. People who want to cut off from information just have to approach to a sphere and hide in it.

MATERIALS

FUNCTION

graphene - a one-atomic thick form of carbon -10 times better conductor than silver - 200 times stronger than steel Graphene will lead the construction of new buildings, provide almost unlimited storage capacity, and increase the calculating power of the processors. Using the graphene, each element of the building will be used as Big Data data server.

Faraday cage Designed for all crater inhabitants to isolate themselves from the over-information environment giving them precious state of disconnection from constant information.

Faraday cages Invented and constructed in 1836 by English physicist Michael Faraday. It has two layers made of an electric conductor. At the time of occurring of the electric field, the charges on the surface of the cage produce an electrical field inside the cage opposite to the one outside of the cage. This prevents any electromagnetic wave from penetrating into the air, thus being isolated from the wireless network. The primacy of the design and the effectiveness of the application makes it the only uncontrolled place in the future for AICA. In the future, it is possible to strictly prohibit the use of Faraday cages for personal use. The building uses it for data protection and for commercial purposes, exploited only by those who have been examined firstly.

zone III - decision The most important part of the office building, here are made and transmit key decisions to the Earth.

zone II - discussion Space where employees gather to discuss the problem and find a solution for it.

Faraday cage - transparent - wireless networks do not go inside it - provides a security bar against surveillance

protocell The programmable material, pioneered by Professor Rachel Armstrong. The main feature of the protocell is the predictable growth and the ossified structure having bearing properties. It can be reprogrammed by the user and adjusted in the form and function to his needs. Material needs CO2 for replication. The atmosphere of Mars contains 95% CO2, making it a convenient environment for material growth. So far, it has been produced on a micro scale. There is a high probability that it will be used on the macro scale by 2030.

zone I - problem processing All issues related to the control of artificial intelligence are under selection, and the most important ones are transferred to zone II - discussion.

public space Space accessible to all, each user has the ability to program space for his own needs.
